Neverwinter Nights was a great disappointment all round, and the XP's aren't much better.
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines on the other hand...

TBH , VTM : Redemption wasnt the greatest ever, and its Storyteller Mode, which we REALLY REALLY REALLY tried to get a good storyline out of, just wasnt worth shit. And i wasnt going to touch NWN till someone explained i could play it in the almost 2d top down view i wanted for a BG clone.

Yeah, there's so much difference between Redemption and Bloodlines, you'd almost think that Bloodlines was made by a different company.

I have it. It's shit.
Well, not shit. But well over-rated, and boring because of the shite AI and overly-tedious repetativeness.
Looks nice, tho.

Re: battle for middle earth
Neverwinter Nights' Hordes of the Underdark expansion is ace.
Battle for Middle-Earth is actually quite fun to play and nice, although it doesn't have as much depth due to the lack of many units or various races.

Because the roleplaying forums are for the roleplayers playing their little text based self-created roleplaying games. GD however, is to discuss general things, like for example computergames.
Also, why don't you stop wasting our space on GD?

Re: battle for middle earth
Battle for middle earth is great. Have to try the multiplayer yet.
NWN + SoU + HotU are awesome! The best thing on it are the multiplayer worlds, that are various and almost endless fun.

Re: battle for middle earth
Vampire Bloodlines. Recently bought it without staff discount.
Why?
It's normally a £32.99 game. (At a GAME store with a Gamestation nearby. 34.99 RRP).
In the sale. It's £9.98
Bargain imo.

Yeah, that shocked me. Of course, both Cambridge Games had run out by the time I found out about this, so I had to buy it from HMV for the high, high price of £19.99.

Well you can't be too bad then, I'm not typically an RPG nut but the uniquness of this game has struck me.
I've been playing it 5 hours a night for a week now and still haven't completed it. Mind some of that time has been spent seeing how many women I can marry & have sexual relations with and or how truly evil I can become

Re: battle for middle earth
World of Warcraft for all it's massive multiplayer ness and the horrible culture of player killing on-line, has a surprisingly unending wealth of questing and rpg content...
I'm about to hit level cap and by all means I could grind in some instances over and over until I have the best pvp equip and then go kill other players... but I'm not inclined too, as I've probably only covered 40% of the quest content so far... on top of just all the other miscelleanous things you can do.
A lot of the content is hidden waiting to be discovered, fortunately not horribly essential content, but content that makes it worth your while to discover it.
That said it is for the PC, you do need massive amounts of self control not to get too addicted, you need to leave general chat so you can avoid the imbeciles that may sour you enjoyment with inane ramblings that really don't affect the play of the game when you learn to ignore general, and uh just find a few good friends you can party with frequently over the duration of your playing time.

Could you clarify the last part a bit?
I'm thinking of playing on a PvP server when WoW comes out (I reckon the realistic danger of going into contested or enemy areas would be somewhat nicer than when your Human Paladin can happy chappy walk through Orgrimmar, waving at all the nice Orcs, or something) - is the PK'ing bad enough for you to advise against it?

If you want to enjoy and explore the vastness of the game, then perhaps avoid pvp, if you want to be able to say "Hey! You took that name I want DIE!" or "Hey I'm trying to quest on this mob too and you are making things slower for me DIE!" or "Hey! I Spent my first two weeks playing this 24/7 so I could be the first lvl 60 rogue so I can now go around spending my time ganking lvl 25-50's in contested area's and goblin towns at will without them ever being able to retaliate" ....
At the moment the issue with the pvp servers is that there has been no implementation of the much talked about honour system.... Alliance will still take over patheically small horde quest towns and gank people as they land off the wind rider.... Alliance will still camp bridges in lvl 20-30 contested zone quest area's with lvl 50-60 rogues.... forcing anyone on the horde side wanting to get anywhere to have to stay clear of the road... etc etc.
I think the main issue is the following though, on my server we have 9.8k alliance players and only 6.8k Horde Players.... You can imagine how easily overwhelming making a stand anywhere as the horde becomes.... the Alliance just 'Zerg' it down....
On some servers the difference is a lot worse, there are very few servers where the numbers are close to balanced and even fewer (just one I believe) where the horde outnumber the alliance.
That is with regards to pvp servers.
You're main issue you'll have to deal with is what servers all the closed beta guilds end up moving too.... It can really mess up the balance of a server...
Only other issues I'd warn you of, if your pc really can't run World of Warcraft well, then PvP servers will have you grind to a halt when there's a massive army headed your way or attacking the town you are in.
If you haven't played WoW until now, I'd strongly reccomend breaking into a pvm server first to get a feel for the game if you cannot commit a couple of hours at least a day to playing on a pvp server.
Oh and get your Leet Speak Dictionary out again, On PvP servers the only way the two factions get around the language barrier to taunt each other is through leet speak...
From the jist of the north american servers and how pvp plays out btw, The alliance are many but extremely nub.... they'll back you up and send even more to wipe out the horde but don't count on them being able to play their class to their best ability.... The Horde tend to have a lot of great players (exceptions being shamans.... a lot of them are 10 yo kids who heard that shamans were overpowered on some forum, and now think they are the best thing since sliced bread cause they merely chose that class) except all tend to be very focused on the goals and the on-going war rather than the short battles if you catch my drift.
IF being an accomplished player is your bag thne Horde may suit your desires, if just getting into the mix of things and doing a little of everything is your bag then Alliance will suit your desires.
Only other things of mention are that horde quests seem to come over more straight forward and engineered towards solo play... Alliance quests are very well designed, but in their intricacy it also makes them rather difficult most of the time without a party.

Re: battle for middle earth
Problem is they have gone with Honour-lite now...
Basically you won't lose honour or gain honour for engaging in regular pvp, the only way to gain honour will be killing certain faction npc's of the named big guy variety like Thrall etc, and the only way to lose honour would be to kill opposite factions npc's for quests/vendors that aren't important, basically preserving the small towns SOMEwhat from basically being farmed for honour...
Apparrently the constant petitioning by jerks won through.
It defiantely sounds that PvM was the way to go given that pvm servers do have a pvp arena and they'll also get battlegrounds which is the sort of pvp I Wanted to be involved in anyway...
