Flat screen monitor
It's my 21st birthday in the next two weeks and I want a new ~17" monitor.
My parents are willing to spend around £200 on me.
Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks

Re: Flat screen monitor
For a decent 17 inch TFT monitor you're looking at paying £250 minimum, probably more like £300.
So I would rethink the present, or get them to spend more

I was 20 yesterday, I got a phone call from my parents at about 10 o'clock asking me what I wanted, bit late
Most are pricey. If you can afford £300 though this is quite cool

Re: Flat screen monitor
Hmm.. speaking of flat screen monitors, anyone know of a monitor that can accept 2 inputs. I have like 3 computers and I dont want 3 monitors since one of them is a test machine which I nuke on a regular basis. So I want my main machine and the test machine plugged into the same monitor and switch between them. No I do not want one of those huge screen monitors I want a flat panel monitor because it takes up less space and such.
I havent really come across one that I liked and was afforable and avliable here in Canada. If anyone knows of one please drop me a line.

I know that the one I use (Hitachi 17" TFT) has two inputs (one analogue, one digital), so it could work like that.

You probally can find one being sold for around the £200 mark but the question is do you really want to bother with something that cheap. On the whole cheap TFT monitors really are quite poor and certainly imho dont offer an adequate level of performance for the amount you pay for them. To get versions that start to offer a good level of performance you really have to be looking at the more expensive end of the market which seem to be out of your price range atm. If you only have £200 to spend your better off either waiting for prices to fall further or get a good quality CRT or get a 15" TFT

Re: Flat screen monitor
pfft flatscreen is overrated.
Just get a nice cheaper 17" CRT with a .20 pitch, Samsung do a lovely one for the grand price of 90 quid or at least what I paid for it.
Buying a Flatscreen now would be like paying 300 quid for a ps2 which people did pay when it was the 'new thang' if you catch my drift.

Yes but that doesnt make buying a cheap one worthwhile. Saving space and looking nice doesnt really offset the disadvantagous of a poor quality monitor.

Well the shutters have been shut for the last 3 weeks so I assumed they went bust as there's no sign about refurbishment.
The website now also appears to be down.
