Buddy packs fro the next round
What's the deal with buddy packs for the free round? Since it's free, I'm assuming that everyone gets upgraded-account rights, such as buddy packs...
And what about BP's for the first round of PAN...

Yes, everyone gets a free credit, so anyone can be in a buddy pack. And no one gets that irritating banner 
Unless we have some sudden change of heart, the system will be the same as this round - a basis of buddy packs of up to 5 and then randoms placed separately.

it's a bit crap though if your buddypack decides to go inactive. In r13 i got stuck in a buddypack that was mainly nos people, some of them jumped ship to wp & got pwned and stopped playing.
I'm glad i could exile me the hell out of there tbh.
Maybe just make the cost of exiling away from your buddypack huge so you really have to have a verry good reason before exiling away from them.

Yes, and that is likely to own since:
it gives more galaxies, hence more targets, and easier for smaller alliances to take down.
there are no randoms, i.e. every player has a place they are familiar with.
there is lots of space for new players signing up without the galaxies becoming horrendously big.

I agree. Everyone's going to try to buddy with people who say they will play the whole round (if they buddy at all) but things come up in rl that might make people not able to play any more. What happens if you can't exile someone then?

I think the no exiling for buddy pack members is a good idea. It will make it far less likely for there to be dead and inactive galaxies which outweighs the cons imo. It's also unlikely for you to have more than 1 or 2 (out of 5) buddies which go inactive. If that does happen then you chose the wrong buddy pack

basically its imposisble to entirly remove the risk of someone being in a bad galaxy - I think over recent rounds we have done an increasingly good job of minimising that - this is about the only thing left we can do to the current system - if it doesn't work well we need to think of something new.

i agree with the no buddy exile...but i see both sides...
