The Return: Liberation of Nova Serpentis

Space - an empty blackness filling the tiny pockets of matter known as planets and stars. To the people of the occupied planet of Nova Serpentis, that emptiness was a symbol of their terror and despair. The Klik'xen, an insectoid space-faring race, had conquered the planet sometime ago in their bid to expand their border even further into Federation territory.

Today, however, the night sky of Nova Serpentis was filled with hope, as it lit up with uncountable brilliant streaks of bluish light: ion trails left by Federation ships as they dropped out of hyperdrive.

On-board the Federation Flagship Inspectre, Admiral Julian Andrews smiled as the once-familiar sight of his home planet came into view. "It has taken me a year to fulfil this vow, but now I have finally returned." The man mutters to himself as the rest of the Federation 11th Fleet appeared around their flagship.

"The 11th Fleet has arrived, sir. Klik'xen swarm ships moving to intercept - they know we're here." The sensors operator reported several minutes later, as the last of the 11th Fleet's ships jumped in.

"Good. Then let's inform our unwelcome guests that there's about to be a change of management around here." The Admiral said, turning to the comms officer and nodding. The comms openned a channel to the rest of the fleet a moment later, and aboard all ships the Admiral's voice could be heard as he said "Attention fleet, this is Admiral Julian Andrews. We have arrived in the Nova system. We have come to liberate Nova Serpentis, and by God we will! Prepare your ships, your crews, and yourselves: the Klik'xen aren't goign to leave without a fight: and I intend to give them on. Admiral Andrews out."

------------------------------------------------

A return to the PA board and a return to DMing for me! \o/

In this thread, you can be virtually anything from a foot soldier up to a Commodore: just come up with a character and let me know what you want to be doing. The thread will focus on both space and ground combat, so anything you come up with should get to see plenty of action. Hope to see some replies soon.

Re: The Return: Liberation of Nova Serpentis

Captain Richard Sharpe of the Bravo Two Zero assault unit sat on the bridge of his Clipper. A small and very fast ship that was built to get troops to the battle, either in space or on the ground. It was manned not by the usual Navy pukes, but by tough hardcore marines. The unit was composed of four other clippers, each of which held a platoon of Marines.

The five clippers dropped out of hyperspace behind the rest of the fleet, hiding their presence behind the mass of larger ships, ready to break through and either engage any damaged ship or land troops on the planet to secure a landing zone for the larger troop transports.

Richard looked towards each of his bridge crew, one at a time, getting a nod from each, indicating that they were all ready. None of them really liked being on the bridge of the ship. It wasn't where they belonged. But they could handle the ship as good as any Navy puke and that got them where they loved to be. In the dirty mess of ground fighting.

The bridge was eirrily quiet as the ships exitted hyperspace. The only noise being the occasion click from the navigator as he kept the ship on course with the rest of the fleet. The silence was broken by the voice of the Admiral and his speach, which echoed away after it had finished. They all they had to do was wait for the enemy to make a move.

Tempted to use that one.

That is quite a ship, after all.

Edit: Maybe it needs some sisterships. People could take it badly after all, when I have to blow up their planet because it is... lost.

(I really really like big, pretty ships.)

Re: The Return: Liberation of Nova Serpentis

Crazyboy

As your squadron of skiffs forms up behind the protective screen of the larger ships, you recieve a comms from the Admiral.

"Captain Sharpe, I understand that you and your men are particularly eager to face the enemy. Well unfortunately enough for you, I have all sorts of unpleasant assignments." Admiral Andrews grimaces at this last bit, and then taps a command into a panel set into his right armrest.

"I am sending you the details of your assignment now: essentially, our fleet shall advance, and lure the Klik'xen fleet away from the planet. Once their fleet is too far away to intercept, you shall approach the largest of the orbiting Hives and destroy it: doing so should create a large enough hole in their outer planetary defenses that we can punch through to continue the next phase of the assault."

"Information recieved, Captain. Sending to your personal screen for review." The comms officer reported a moment later.

"Good luck, Captain - if you fail, the batteries on that Hive could keep the fleet at bay for hours and the entire operation could falter before it even truly begins. Admiral Andrews out."

The comms channel is cut, and you are left to muse over the details of the Hive. It is a Class 4 defense installation, armed with enough heavy guns to challenge multiple dreadnaughts at once. Prior experience with past Hives of this size has also proven that the armor plating surrounding the critical systems is amazingly thick and resistant to damage: the Klik'xen organic technology is often able to repair most of the damage from a barrage before a second one can even be launched. However, such offensive and defensive capabilities have a price: the Class 4 Hive often has overly large reactors that can easily be induced to overload and explode either by well-placed detonation charges from within or concentrated fire from outside (although such fire still has to breach the hull plating and exposes the attacking ship to the Hive's formidable guns). Your mission, naturally, is to slip aboard the Hive while the Klik'xen are busy focusing on the Federation fleet, hack your way through the bowels of the station to the depths of the reactor room, plant demo charges, and escape before a majority of the station's occupants are even aware that they're about to die in firey glory.

Fluffie

/ooc You can have the crazy ship if you want, but no blowing up the planet unless you want a mutiny - i.e. I get to kill j00. ooc/

"Incoming transmission from the Admiral." The comms officer, a saucy little thing, reports. A moment later the grim face of Admiral Andrews appears on your viewscreen.

"Captain, although you may not think that your ship has a use in a battle meant to liberate a planet, exploding moons always makes for a good distraction. Therefore, I want you to take your ship, and the Hunter, Archer, and Ranger, and jump deeper in-system to the moon of Nova Trious - the Klik'xen have a large supply base there. Our sensors have detected nothing more than Klik'xen life signs from the moon - it should be relatively safe to blow up in terms of protecting the lives of civilians. Unfortunately, as usual for the Klik'xen, they have defended their rear supply base with fanatical zeal." The Admiral taps a command into his armrest, and a map of the system appears in front of his face. As it zooms in to the target moon, you notice the presence of several things orbiting around it: space stations. Defense space stations. "We have detected no less than five Class 2 Hives orbiting the moon. Although one is hardly a threat to your ship, the chances of you needing to engage more than one to get within range to use the Stellar Converter is high. There is also a small flotilla of Klik'xen ships docked at one of the Hives, likely refueling. Your mission to fight through these stations and fleet, destroy the moon, and escape before help can arrive to stop you. Chances are good that once they realize a supply base is in danger, part of their main fleet will peel off to engage you. This is what we're counting on in the distraction, but if you take too long the reinforcements will probably arrive before you can destroy the moon or escape. If the fighting becomes too intense, withdraw: I would rather not lose you to a minor distraction. Good luck, Admiral Andrews out."

The Admiral's image winks out, and the comms officer makes another report a minute later.

"The anti-Swarm frigates Hunter, Archer, and Ranger are pulling up alongside us, sir. They will be ready to make the jump in another three minutes."

Re: The Return: Liberation of Nova Serpentis

Name: Cali "Mako" Roxborough
Gender: Female
Rank: Lance Corporal
Role: Forward Combat Diver

Age: 27 years
Weight: 156 lbs
Height: 5'11''
Quick desc: Lean, toned, pale, short haired

Armament: H&K G11 (diver's configuration), Five-Seven, combat knife.
Ammunition: 3 clips 4.73x33 mm caseless (45 bullets each), 3 clips 5.7x28mm (20 bullets each).
Equipment: Dive suit, 24h oxygen, image intensifier, rations (5 days), radio beacon.

Nationality: Makedon
Ethnicity: Slavic romany

Description: Standing almost as tall as an average man, this trim tomboy moves with ease no matter the crowd; slipping by
mostly unnoticed and seldom recieving a second glance. Her black hair is cropped close to her scull with the slight
beginning of a pair of sideburns at her temples. Her pale face is slightly androgynous, but most would still say she's pretty
enough to clearly be female; her shrewd topaz eyes and her thin lipped mouth together with a slight buttonish nose give her
an almost pixie like appearance.
Her features are slightly marred by the presence of of two small scars: One barely longer than her nose ridge - placed
horisontally across it - and one that begins in the right side of her lip, extending upwards two centimeters. The latter
lightly deforms her lip enough to give her the shadow of a sneer.
Her body appears a bit on the slim side; like an athlete. But should anyone have thought her scrawny, these thoughts are
swiftly dispersed upon seeing her unclothed form: Her whole body is an impressive picture of fitness. Everywhere stringy
muscles are packed tightly under her skin, giving the impression of one who has spent her whole life training to make her
body the epitome of physical superiority. Not an ounce of baby fat is left; only the strings of muscles and reliefs of veins
cast shadows on her milky skin.

Bio: Born in a slowly deteriorating citadel on the bottom of the ocean planet Makedon, Mako grew up a troublemaker in the underworks of the construction, in the lightless and unpoliced slums. She picked fights from day one and by the time she was 18 she was tough as nails. She enrolled in the armed forces as an alternative to trying to land a job in the poor society of the backwards planet, and soon worked her way into the marinal special forces, naturally at home in the water.
She is an operative of FCD gr42 and has a modest number of live reconnaissance, infiltration and sabotage missions behind her.

Well, amphibious combat missions is this girl's forte. But beware: Large posts scare me!
And yes; she's got contemporary equipment. Maybe she's just old fashioned, what do I know?

Re: The Return: Liberation of Nova Serpentis

"Signal the Inspectre, acknowledge our mission tell them watch for the fireworks. Welcome the frigates and have them link into our NavCom, I want this jump to go smooth."

"The Admiral said there might be a small flotilla of ships refueling, dandy. Retrieve all sensor and recon material of our intended target and its Hives, zoom in and find out where those ships are docked exactly, if they are... Then plot the jump so that we come out right in front of them."

"Prep all Valkyries for flight and... Load all forward Tubes, charge the Plasma Cannons and fire up all the Point Defense Turrets people, we're going in hot!"

(No. 1) "Red alert?”

"Red alert indeed."

A claxon sounds and all over the ship red lights flash. "This is the bridge. All hands, red alert. Repeat, all hands red alert: man your stations."

“Alright. The moment we leave Quantum Space I want all excess power dumped into the energy wave tunnel, the sooner we get her going the better. The Klik’xen have seen Deathdealers before, so they’ll know how hard we party.”

(Some sensor man) ”We have identified Hive #1 as the refueling post for that flotilla, sir. Looks like they want their ships to be able to engage attacking forces right away. We have been as bold to identify the most likely weak points in this whole “refueling operation” of the Klik’xen too.”

“Brilliant.”

Fluffie’s No. 1, Warren, looks at a monitor, examining the data brought up by the sensor department.

”Looks like a tight fit. We could make it, I’d say. Helm?

A loud sight eminates from one of the more forward positions on the bridge.

(Helm) ”A tight fit. We could make it, you’d say.”

The man silences for a moment, taking a closer look at his screen.

”I’d have to agree though. We can slam ourselves right in there, but the frigates would have to jump in a bit behind us.”

“Plot the jump then. Engineering, fire up our auxillary generators – I want power and I want lots of it. Warren, get the gunnery crews for our Graviton Beams to fire up their generators too.”

“Comms, open up a channel so that I can speak to the Archer, Ranger and Hunter too, would you?”

(Comms) ”Channel... open.”

“A quick lay out of the plan before we depart, Captains. The Thanatos will be jumping in at close proximity of the Hive and will fire a salvo of Plasma and Fusion Torpedoes. With some luck, we catch them by suprise and hit at least some of their fuellines or –depots. And finally, if we’re really lucky, we’ll just blow the damn thing including at least most of the flotilla straight to hell. Hunter, Archer and Ranger will be jumping in slightly behind us. Your role is to come in hot, engaging anything still standing after the initial assault from us. Clear?”

All three frigates’ Captains respond quick and to the point, while their frigates form up for the jump.

“After the initial attack, all gunnery crews are clear to fire at will. Number One, are we ready?”

”Thanatos is ready for jump and combat sir.”

“Comms?”

”Frigates report ready for jump and combat.”

“Then lets go."

Another claxon sounds, different than before, as Warren activates the shipwide intercom and tells everyone to prepare for jump.

Not much later, the Thanatos and her escort jump out, heading straight for... MADNESS! (Raah! )

Edit: Sorry for the strange end

Re: The Return: Liberation of Nova Serpentis

"Signal to the Inspectre. Mission acknowledge. Good hunting. We'll see them planetside. Open a unit wide channel."

Comms: "Signal recieved. The Inspectre wishes us luck and asks us to leave some beer for the party. Unit channel is open"

"Attention Bravo Two Zero. There is party going on down on the planet and we've got front row tickets. But unfortunatly the door is blocked by a large hive. This means we're going to have to break the door down. Our target is the class 4 Hive. Its the biggest one orbiting the planet for those of you looking out of the windows. Now, we'll be going in hard and fast. That beast has some big guns on it, so we'll be heading in on maximum burn. We shall be leaving the protection of the fleet as soon as the insects are too far from their defences to intercept us. Third Platoon has drawn babysitting duty for this op. They'll be protecting our skiffs when we land in the belly. Fourth and Fifth will be securing the surrounding decks and our escape route to the hangers. First and Second platoons will make for the reactors. The easiest place for us to land is going to be their hanger bays. I doubt they'll open the doors for us, so we'll be breaking those down. First and Second will be traveling light, we'll need the speed. Everyone else gear up for a fall back action. Lock and Load marines. Its time you earnt your pay!"

On all five Clippers, the marines hurried about, checking their weapons, loading up on ammo, donning their armoured vests and making last minute bets on who will bag the most insects.

"Load all forward missile tubes with scramblers. Signal the others to do the same. I want the second volley to be loaded with AP warheads. We'll need those to punch through the armour on the hanger doors. Charge up the plasma battery. Link the unit assault computers. We'll have to fire simutaniously if we are to breach their hanger. Helm, move us to the edge of the fleet, and prepare for full burn to the hive. We'll not make our move until the fleets are engaged."

Name: Murphy Macmanus, Known as Echo
Age: 27
Weight: 186 Lbs
Height: 6'2"
Descrip: In a word, unremarkable, except for the times when his hair colour and eyes haven't been modified, at which times they are a distinct red and emerald green respectively.
History: Recruited under questionable circumstances, to an outfit that could never see the light of day, Murphy was a perfect candidate. Slated for execution for a bloody episode that left thirty eight people dead and brought to light his extraordinary set of combat skills. With a death sentence hung over his head, Murphy had little in the way of deliberation to do when approached with a job opprotunity. The next few years were filled with rather unmentionable jobs including work that could easily have been labelled as terrorism. Most of these operations have been as part of a greater scheme, either intel gathering, or efforts to severely disrupt the normal workings of dangerous organisations, IE, mafia groups, rebel militias, terrorist cells, etc. using any means he deemed necessary. Now he is stationed on the admiral's flagship awaiting his specific orders.

Role:Elite Heavy Stirke Forces Leader (vessel boarding and ground assualt)
Call Sign: "Xuat"
Team's Call Sign: "APOC" (short for apocolypse) aka non-officially: "Black Regiment"

Description: A common nickname for Ephan is "Gen. Black" because of his black on black body armor and visor. Infact the rest of his command wears the same dark black armor and for that reason along with many others the rest of the federation have grown to call them the "Black Regiment". Without his armor on, his description is somewhat average except for the violet color is his eyes. He has raven black hair and a sense of morbid humor. One thing that makes him rather unique among the federation forces is that he is a general that fights along side the men he leads. The soldiers underneath him admire and would fight for him to the death which makes the APOC such a efficient united assault group. T
