Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

I have decided in a fit of boredom to resurrect the Legacy arena. The basic premise is simple. Eight participants each representing a legacy of mankind are lined up in a tournament. Each match takes place in an arena similarly aligned to one of the legacies (places such as abandoned space stations, medievil castles, etc) which will be described when the match starts. The "fights" follow a strict arrangement.

The first person to post, posts a short post saying they're posting (this is a courtesy to stop both posters writing the opening attack). They then edit this post to include an attack. The second person then reacts to this attack, defending themselves as best they can before launching their own attack. Finally the original poster posts a defence. These posts are then judged on a variety of criteria (revolving around quality, obviously) and the winner is decided.

The winner not only gets a place in the next round, they are also infused with the legacy of their fallen opponent, opening up more options for them to use in their next fight. (in the event of both combatants being of the same legacy then the winner gains the legacy of the arena).

The maximum amount of time allowed between posts is 48 hours (2 days :P). So the initial attack must be less than 48 hours after the match is officially started, then the defence/counter must be within 48 hours of that and the final defence up to 48 hours after that.
If only one person posts, and it's the first round then one of the reserves will be entered otherwise it's a victory for the successful poster. If neither posts and it's still the first round then the two reserves will be pitted against each other. If a later round then a runner up will be promoted.

The available legacies are as follows:

Firearms - Ranged Weapons up to Present Era. Also includes grenades and similar.
Psychic - Manipulate Energy with your mind. Telepathy, Telekinetics, standard thing.
Surrealist - Mind Altering drugs are strictly optional. Ought to be funny and thoroughly bizarre.
Magic - Manipulate things with arcane power (usually with an elemental flavour). Fairly standard.
Melee - Axes, Spears, Swords, sword-chucks. All mundane (this legacy also allows for exceptional physical strength and dexterity, etc)
Technology - Giant robots, nanomachines, orbital cannons, armoured combat suits and vehicles, all that fun.

No more than two people can have the same legacy.

Judging
Anyone not involved in the current match can be a judge. Just PM me with a score out of ten in the following categories once the match is over and I'll average them. If you want you can make comments on the match, but these should be posted in the thread and be strictly relevant :P

Judging Criteria
Offense - The quality of the posters offense.
Defense - How well the offense is dealt with (note, accepting all damage is a perfectly viable defence, but it better be done in a cool way)
Scenic - How well the arena is used/otherwise interacted with.
Originality - Fairly obvious I'd have thought.
Legacy - How true the character is to their legacy.
Quality - A measure of the overall quality of the post(s). (Also known as the "Wow Factor")

Please avoid comparing the two combatants and don't be afraid to judge harshly; 5, 6 and 7 are all still good posts (I dislike 1 point victories and draws ). As usual the judging should be strictly impartial .

Eight guaranteed places and two reserves. Just post your interest and legacy choice.
  • Main Places
  • Wraith[x] - Surrealist
  • Bakan - Technology
  • Shadow275 - Psychic
  • Planetkiller II - Technology
  • Crazyboy - Firearms
  • Hewitt - Melee
  • Lestat - Melee
  • Heiro - Surrealist
  • Reserves
  • Ryon Jkar
  • Inspectre
  • No Dachi
  • Available

Shouldn't the posting person win by default?

With 8 places and only 6 legacies some duplication is necessary. Though obviously I'd rather not have 8 techs or something similar. So...

Official Ruling: No more than two people with each legacy.

Otherwise, yeah sure that's fine PK.

Ask nicely and see if PK'll be nice enough to take his other option. Or else I'll try and pit you against a tech person straight off.

That's all the main places gone. No mages And only one psychic and firearms Ah well.

Lestat: Sometime in the next day or two. I'll stick you in the last match of round one. We shouldn't get that far before next saturda, though it certainly is possible.

The two reserve spaces are still available.

Well technically there are almost no limitations on what you can, except those imposed on you by your legacy and the battle arrangements. Since this is more a measure of the quality and originality of the post than whether or not to can manipulate your adversary into admitting defeat.

So, essentially: if you want, then you are welcome to have the magic legacy and be a dragon, though bear in mind that being a large bulky dragon might well be somewhat of a disadvantage should I stick you in an arena with small cramped spaces...

Re: Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

"LAAAAAADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Welcome to the return of the Legacy Arena tournament." said the announcer through the enormous speaker system, his voice echoing across most of the planet. Several people's euphoric cheers abruptly changing to agonising screams as their eardrums burst.

When the announcers voice returns the volume has been reduced severely. "This year we have transported eight contestants across time and space just to fill your lives with a little bloodshed. We just need a little while longer to fine-tune our equipment. In the meantime, enjoy some clips of the last Legacy Arena."

An enormous holographical display winks into existence above the stadium, it generally only shows explosions maybe a few witty one-liners, the clips are all too short to form a lasting impression. The clips are however, liberally sprinkled with corporate sponsorship logos and adverts, many of which feature scantily clad, nubile, young ladies.

Re: Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

The enormous displays disappear as instantly as they'd appeared.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I've just recieved word that we are ready to start. So, it's time for the first match!"

Two silhouetted figures are projected by the holo-system, each 50 foot high and slowly revolving.

"Entering on your left." the leftmost of the two figures is suddenly illuminated, revealing it to be an image of Shadow. "Is our first contestant, Shadow275. Little is known about this enigmatic psychics abilities. We're not even sure how or why he was selected to be a competitor. But if he's anything like our previous psychic competitors, you can be sure that this will be a fight full of pyschokinetically powered explosions and other spectacular feats of mental strength!"

The figure on the right lights up revealing Planetkiller. "Planetkiller II, a clone of the original super-level genius Planetkiller. This duplicate broke all projections when he spectacularly exceeded the original, resulting in the instigation of omega-genius classification. Known for his forays into combining the disparate science of technology with the mysterious and immense power of psionics. We shall see what technological tricks planetkiller has up his sleeves for dealing with his opponents mental prowess."

The hologram changes in a cascade of static.

"As for the arena..."

The display seemingly returns to clarity, only the only thing visible is a vast field of green. The camera angle changes, revealing the display to be a beautiful meadow in the height of summer.

"With such a dull arena as this, 'how?' you ask, can we expect to have a memorable fight. To answer this, we'll have to change the camera angle again."

Sure enough, as he spoke the camera angle changed again until the camera must be only a centimeter above the ground. Seemingly huge blades of grass tower over the camera. Insects the size of cars prowl around, minding their own business. A bird the size of a whale swoops down and devours a helpless earthworm.

"This is how this arena will appear to our combatants."

The crowd, which had mostly been very quiet since the unveiling of the arena suddenly bursts into applause, shouting, clapping and hollering at the tops of their lungs, it certainly seems like they're going to be happy with this fight.

----------------------------

So, to summarise:
Planetkiller (Technology) vs Shadow (Psychic)

And the arena's a summer meadow, with you shrunk to around 1cm tall.

You can have any device/ability you feel like, though obviously nothing world-shattering, or completely without plausible weakness.

No respawns.

----------------------------

Shadow and Planetkiller materialise in the center of the arena, for a moment they look very confused. Then a cascade of chromatic energy whips round in a whirlwind of light and sound, when the energy dissipates they are gone. The holodisplay tunes in on the combatants in the arena, in some unknown corner of the Galaxy. The spectators wait with abated breath...

Re: Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

*As PK rematerialised from the chromatic whirlwind, he looked about, somewhat surprised. He had heard of this place from the other adventurers that often crossed his path, but he’d never before received the call to the Legacy arena. Despite feeling slightly honoured, he realised that there was not time to stand about. This strange place he had been transported to, where blades of grass seemed to grow like giant redwoods was not the sort of place he was accustomed to. He tried to reach out with his psychic abilities, but discovered it couldn’t. It was a disquieting experience to be trapped inside his own head, when for his entire life he’d been able to tap into every living thing’s consciousness within a few miles. He tried again, this time in an attempt to utilise his telekinetic powers, but found they too did not work. Now he thought about it, PK realised that he should have expected this. It was the legacy arena after all; he’d only be able to start with one of his gifts. PK reached for the K-Custom psy-sword normally found in a holster slung over his shoulder, but found that was missing also. Unsurprising. PK decided to run a full diagnostic on his inventory, before the inevitable opponent could find him. He ran forward into the grass stalks in an attempt to hide while he took stock. Fortunately, he could tell that his armour had remained intact from the way the lights on the harness he wore over his shoulders still pulsed and glowed.*

“Full armour mode, helmet included.”

*Shiny black, plastic-like armour plating began to collapse out from the harness, running down his torso like a rigid liquid. Voice command circuitry was intact then. The black plating continued over his waist and down his legs, forming null space holsters able to contain the multitude of weaponry PK carried about in a fiftieth of the space. The arms too were covered, defining the muscles in them. Finally, a helmet enveloped his dark haired head, and displays within lit up in a blaze of blue glowing lettering. PK put his back to the grass stalk, about to check on his technology, but he discovered that being among the stalks was not as safe as he might have thought. A spider, bigger than he was, dropped from above, straight on top of him. The hairy arachnid gnashed its teeth together and brought its pincers down into PK’s chest in a blow that would have crushed ribs and punctured his lungs if he had not just activated his flex-polymer panethium charged armour suit. Instead, the creature was blasted straight back up in the direction it had come from by an arc of green lighting that emanated from the point its pincers had struck. It flew vertically upwards until it hit the web it had dropped from, and stuck there, smouldering gently. Sighing, and knowing that wouldn’t be the greatest challenge he would face, PK continued where he left off before being interrupted.*

“Suit diagnostic, full inventory and status please Solaris.”

*Solaris, the Advanced AI built into his armour began feeding statistics past in the display, highlighting the most important ones, all the while talking.*

My sensors have been severely limited. Wherever we are, I no longer have my connection to sub-space or the psychic network of the multiverse. This is probably some kind of product of the chromatic vortex that brought us here. I would hypothesise that this location does not truly exist, but is merely a pocket of copied time, that only exists while we and the other competitor remain here. As soon as one of us is eliminated, the reality fails and we will be returned to the real multiverse.

“Pretty much what I figured. What works?”

Processing. Listing.
K3 Energy Psy-Shield – Only the non-mentally controlled arm shield setting is working, but the panethium is still energised, and should repel psychic or energy blasts as efficiently as usual.
P55 Psy-Charged Plasma Rifle – Psy components have been disabled. Only its enhanced plasma settings are available. The same goes for your P25 pistols.
Psy-Buster Grenades – Full effectiveness.
Strength Enhancers – Active
Gravity Benders - Active
Plasma Shocks – Active

“I figured that last one. I’ll just assume all the rest of my non-psy based toys are working fine, right?”

Yes, that’s about the size of it.

“OK.”

*The AAI had a bit of a tendency to talk to much, and there wasn’t time. He had to find his enemy, whoever it might be. PK tried to activate the suit’s short range scanners with the neural link. Nothing happened.*

“Damned over zealous disablers. That’s tech based! All voice commands from now on. Scanners.”

*Inside his helmet, displays and sounds began to pop up, as the sensors registered all the life in the immediate area. There was a lot of it, and the pings coming from every life sign around was deafening. Without neural systems to help him sort the information, PK couldn’t process it all at once, but he did his best.*

“Drop off all vegetation and insectoid life. Boost humanoid life signs.”

*Most of the blips, meaning those related to giant ladybirds, dandelions and indeed, spiders faded into the background, and instead a single figure lit up, behind a forest of grass blades, walking slowly along what could best be described as a path. A small icon next to it indicated an abundance of psychic powers. PK nodded, appreciating the power of his opponent as well as being glad his anti-psy equipment would not be useless. He then looked about, deciding upon a plan of attack. Finding what he needed, he pointed an arm up at the tallest flower he could see between him and his opponent and fired off a grapple line, the cable playing out silently until it latched in the stalk just below the actual flower. He could have used his gravity benders to simply fly up there, but any psychic worth his brain would be able to detect that kind of energy change, despite the suit’s panethium psy-blanketing properties. This way would be quieter, in more ways than one. PK began to reel the cable in, causing his feet to leave the ground, and his body to shoot upwards. He kept an eye on his visor, ensuring that the various insects did not attack him as well as making sure the psycher did not change position. Hopefully he was not a teleporter, or this fight could become problematic. PK extended climbing claws from the back of his armoured gloves as he reached the flower, latching onto the vegetation. Sweet, sticky goop squeezed out of the stalk. PK was glad he was wearing gloves. The unknown psycher was almost directly below now, though to get to him PK would have to drop straight through a mass of flying insects. Fortunately at that point a dragonfly zoomed past, chomping on a blue bottle, which caused the majority of the others to scatter. Seeing his chance, PK hesitated for just a moment, then retracted his claws and pushed off the stalk with his feet, jumping into space. A second later, his foot landed on the shell of a beetle that had been flying below the flower. PK spun, ripping a pair of P25 Plasma Pistols from null space holsters at his hips, then somersaulted of the insect’s back before it could react. A moment later he landed on another creature, a further five metres down. Now he began to shoot, not concentrating on the psychic himself, for it would likely be ineffective at this range even when taking him by surprise. Instead, the green flashing bolts were aimed at the base of the dandelion he’d just leapt from, biting through the thick, trunk-like stem in only a few shots.*

“Timber.”

*The shots, assisted by the targeting software in PK’s suit, had burned off exactly the right section of vegetation, and the dandelion fell, almost on top of his enemy, but just in front instead. Before the tree-like weed had crashed to the ground, PK had descended ten more metres, firing at another tall plant on the other side of the path, this time some kind of tulip he didn’t recognise (or care to). This one fell just behind the psycher, boxing him between them. PK had not been aimed to squash the man, though if he’d moved at all, the stalks would have flattened him under their bulk. What he’d wanted was just to make sure that he stayed in once place long enough for PK to do some damage. If it turned him into a mashed pulp, well, that was just a bonus. After bouncing off a last insect shell, he landed lightly upon the earthy ground, gravity benders now assisting now that stealth no longer mattered. The pair of plants smashed into the ground as he did so, bringing up a cloud of dust that obscured vision and would have brought stinging pain to PK’s eyes if he was not wearing a helmet. Despite the tornado of sandy grit, sensors still registered the psychic to be alive. PK began the next phase of his plan, materialising a P55 Plasma Rifle at his shoulder. PK wrenched it out and lobbed a Psy-Buster grenade with a dull thump from the attached grenade launcher towards where his systems showed the target to still be. The small canister spun slowly through the air, before landing neatly in the hollow between the two fallen flowers. It detonated less than a second later, engulfing the area in a shower of lilac explosions which chain reacted along the entire length of the stalks, destroying anything within the blast radius and frying the minds of any psychers that happened to be within range. Since PK’s abilities had been disabled, he had dialled up the panethium charge to maximum, allowing the mind destroying wave to wash over him without damage. However, he was still not done. Still aiming the rifle at the point he had last detected his target at, PK began loosing off plasma bolts in a hail of green fire. After a few shots, the plasma began to meld together, creating a ball of burning bright flame that incinerated what was left of the plants, but PK did not stop. He continued firing until every last charge from the weapon was depleted, and a circle fifty metres across was entirely raised to the ground, scorched and burned. Solaris spoke up, thinking that it was all over.

Nice

“Thank you.”

Overkill?

“I don’t think so.”

*PK had a feeling it wouldn’t be that simple. His sensors were off, a by-product of the anti-psy wave produced by the grenades. That meant he was momentarily blind. As the dust clouds began to clear away, he amplified he voice using the suit’s speakers, and shouted.*

“You still alive? I’m PK, and I’ll be your opponent for today.”

Very amusing

“I thought so.”

I guess we’ll see in a moment.

“I guess we will.”

Yep. Though you're the least likely to get to compete of them. Though you do get a guaranteed place next time.

Oh. And note to Bakan (And PK, though it's a little late now): Technically, personal scale weaponry (pistols, rifles, grenades, etc) belongs to the firearms legacy, if they are of pre-21st century in design they can be used with just the Firearms legacy. High-tech rifles and pistols would require both Firearms and Tech.

I seem to have left this less clear than I thought, so I'll ignore it this time...

Re: Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

Shadow stood still, watching the environment around him, enjoying the temporary psionic abilities he had been gifted. He could feel the surrounding area far better than any sensor or neural link could gift him, hearing the simple thoughts of simple creatures, feeling their emotions, sharing their desires for food and mates.

There was a bright mental flash, precognition, he saw the next 20 seconds of time unfurl before him. The plant, the grenade, the plasma rounds, everything.

He sighed.

I was enjoying this, oh well.

He looked up, spotting PK blasting away at the dandelion stem with abandon as he fell downward, bouncing from creature to creature.

“Timber”

Cute Shadow thought as he idly watched the dandelion fall toward him, he took a moment to decide which course of action to take, still watching the descending foliage, he came across a suitable course and took it briskly.

He stood completely still.

The plant skimmed past him, soon after a tulip fell beside him, a bad attempt at blocking him in. Shadow found a nearby insect, taking control of it for just a moment; he looked through its eyes and his. He saw PK land softly, then motion to pull something from a holster.

Grenade, he thought, watching PK pull the rifle from the holster thing and firing a grenade in Shadow’s general direction. The ‘nade soared through the air, spinning gently, arcing toward the downed flowers.

Shadow had to smile, finding it amusing to use such easierly deflected weapons as grenades on someone with psychokinetic abilities, but he decided not to be a spoilsport and use them. No, he was going to try something a little different, a little dangerous.

He glanced upward, making sure nothing was blocking the area above him, satisfied that it was clear, he closed his eyes. There was a barely perceptible ripple in space as the mass formally known as Shadow disappeared milliseconds before the grenade detonated, destroying the area he once existed in. After a moment as a non-mass, Shadow reappeared 30 meters in the air, having completed a mass movement of his molecules through psycho-kinetics.

Gravity was, however, still present, which hastened his return to the ground.

He blinked again, his mass becoming non-mass for yet another moment as he hastily re-arranged his molecules, targeting the area just behind PK and his rifle. There was a tiny sound as his mass reappeared, his molecules complained quiet loudly about all this moving about.

PK was still firing into the area he thought Shadow was, burning the ground in quite an inelegant and over killing manner.

Shadow smiled, he hadn’t realised yet, which meant he had a moment of time to play. Establishing an energy field, he slowly started to suck hydrogen from the limited atmosphere, condensing it into a liquid form, forming a ball. More and more gas arrived at the impromptu gas refinery, enlarging the ball to roughly one foot across.

Sufficient

He took a deep breath, puffing his chest out and then did something wholly unexpected. He sung.

“A British tar is a soaring soul
As free as a mountain bird
His energetic fist should be ready to resist
A dictatorial word”

There seemed to be a large energy build up occurring, maybe PK’s suit would notice, maybe not, it didn’t matter since he needed only a moment more.

“His nose should pant and his lip should curl
His cheeks should flame and his brow should furl
His bosom should heave and his heart should glow
And his fist be ever ready for a knock-down blow

The energy released, a massive invisible telekinetic blast threw PK into and through a blade of grass, causing it to fall. The blow would have crushed a lesser man, but Shadow knew that any technologist worth his electromechanical components would have ways of lessening such blows to non-lethal proportions. So more force was needed, luck would have it that there were still more lyrics and still more tricks to be played.

“His eyes should flash with an inborn fire

Inside the ball of hydrogen, two atoms came together, telekinetic energy forced them to do something that they would normally only do at several millions of degrees C.

They fused

The massive energy release caused the entire ball to ignite in fusion fire, covered by a psychic thermo-energy dissipation field, it was momentarily safe, but the reaction was already becoming unstable and accelerating rapidly.

“His brow with scorn be wrung
He never should bow down to a domineering frown
Or the tang of a tyrant tongue
His foot should stamp and his throat should growl”

Shadow stamped his foot along with the song, as he did so, the blades of grass surrounding the downed PK started to bend downward, the cells on the outer walls suffering from super-accelerated osmosis thanks to aero-kinesis lowering the water content around them to zero. The grass collapsed around and onto PK as the weight of the now dead cells caused the stems to snap likes twigs.

His hair should curl and his face should scowl
His eyes should flash and his breast protrude
And this should be his customary attitude”

Shadow took a long, deep bow toward the audience, then stood erect. He pulled a comic ‘realisation’ face as he saw the mini-sun hovering in front of him. The mini-sun whose fusion reaction was now massively out of control, fluxuating wildly, plasma arcs flying into the ground, nearby grass, burning everything. Shadow reached forward, seeming to pluck the ball from the air, never actually touching the dangerous reaction, he pulled back his arm and adopted the pose of a baseball pitcher.

“Batter up”

He threw the fusion ball in a pitch that a professional baseball pitcher would have been proud of, it raced through the air and gently arced toward the downed grass. Shadow smiled, altering his energy field, like half-teleporting, he phased out of this place only slightly so he could watch the fun but not get stuck with the damage.

The fireball was a foot above the fallen grass when Shadow phased, severing the containment fields’ energy, being energy constructs with no energy they fell. The fusion reaction, no-longer contained and controlled in anyway, released massive amounts of neutron radiation and heat. Turning the surrounding area into mulch through the intense heat, the radiation killed off most of the insects and mutated those fortunate enough to survive. The reaction quickly burned itself out, briefly turning red and expanding before collapsing back onto itself. The burned-out remains dropped to the ground, a golf ball sized collection of neutrons and some helium.

Shadow rematerialised, having enjoyed the stellar show, he surveyed the cinders that was grass, the bloody remains of insects, the destruction.

And it was good

Re: Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

ooc// I reckon you could be done for Surrealism there Shadow //ooc

*PK was thrown to the ground by the psychokinetic blast, snapping through one of the grass blades and coming to a rest at the end of a long rut produced by his colliding with the ground. His gravity benders had resisted the worst of it, but you couldn’t dodge things like that. PK brushed off the dust he was now covered in, muttering.*

“Bloody teleporters.”

*He looked at his displays, registering only minor external damage. Then he looked up, and saw the miniature star forming above him.*

“Oh hell. Shields!”

*The command was rather hopeful; even the shields built into his suit had no chance of absorbing the huge fusion reaction. If it had been an attack composed of psychic energy, it would have been an entirely other matter, but as it was, the ball would crush him if he allowed it to hit. Then, and idea hit him. The gravity benders might be able to save him once again.*

“Solaris, pump everything into gravity benders, the power from lifesupport, shields, weapon systems, the whole lot.”

You sure?

“Just do it please, unless you plan on becoming a barbequed artificial intelligence.”

*Solaris complied, and PK saw the power distribution monitors on his HUD change, with a single bar rising above all the others. The gravity benders weren’t meant to take that kind of power, but neither were they meant to be projected away from the suit wearer. For that matter, they weren’t supposed to be used for stopping a multi-megaton fusion sphere from falling to earth either, but that’s what had to be done. PK raised his arms, palms outstretched, and activated them. The effect was dramatic. The ball began to slow, taking only short movements downward, as if it was unsure of how to proceed. The unseen force from PK’s gravity benders created a force below it that physics says shouldn’t exist, but even multi-megaton fusion spheres can’t resist gravity, whatever the direction. The gravity flowed from PK’s arms, almost supporting the bomb now, but tasking the suit’s servos and power couplings no end. PK concentrated on containing the energy flow in the correct direction, but it was hard work. The gravity benders would not stand for this abuse for more than a short time, and time was something he was rapidly running out of. The energy stopped moving, only a few metres above PK, close enough that he could feel the heat, even through his suit’s dampeners. He didn’t want to stay this close for long, and so put every erg of his power reserves into getting rid of the ball that was so close to destroying him. It worked. The fusion sphere began to move, slowly at first, then easier as it gathered speed. If anyone was watching from a better angle, it would have looked like the ball had just reached the top of a throw, and started falling. Only it was falling to the sky rather than the earth. PK dropped to his hands and knees, watching the sparks playing across his arms. The gravity benders hadn’t liked that one bit. They’d be offline until he could get somewhere to repair them. Power reserves were very low too, just enough left for normal functioning, and a little enhanced strength. Perhaps a few low power pieces of equipment might work too. It wasn’t a lot, but it would have to do. PK got to his feet, and ran, already a plan forming in his mind. It relied on keeping this psycher busy in one specific spot at the right time, but it would be tricky. He looked up, and saw the psycher watching his power ball fly straight upwards. PK shouted out, grabbing his enemy’s attention. That did it, the psychic starting to follow PK’s progress through the undergrowth. PK was looking about as he ran, searching for what he needed. Then he saw it, a springy little sapling. The suits sensors reported that it was in just the right place. PK skidded to a halt on the side of the gigantic plant opposite from the pursuing psycher.*

“Got to time this just right.”

I’ll help.

“Good.”

*PK raised his arms once more, but not to use the busted gravity benders. Instead he fired a pair of grapple lines into the top of the sapling, one from each wrist, where they caught and held fast. Then PK dug in his heels and began to reel them in. He could hear the strain in the cables and the suit’s strength enhancers as they tried to pull down the massive weight. Fortunately, it was only a young sapling, springing and susceptible to being bent. Which of course was why PK had chosen it. His enemy was now closing fast, and PK sped up the winches, causing them to bend the plant almost the entire way to the ground. The sound of metal about to tear filled his ears, but he had to hold on for a few seconds longer. Then... he released the sapling. The young tree fire upwards like the arm of a catapult, crashing into the hapless psychic and swatting him from the air like a fly. The arm crashed to the ground on the opposite side to PK, leaving the psycher embedded in the ground, then began to swing about like a bucking bronco. PK wasn’t watching this though, he was busy running for his life. He used up the last of his power reserves as he took shelter behind the largest plant he could find. He didn’t know whether it would be enough, but it was the best he could find. He sank to the floor, the suit not even having enough energy to move, and waited. As the psycher pulled himself out of the hole in the ground, he had a good view of what was coming down on him. The fusion sphere had reached the edge of the gravity field’s tolerance, and was coming back down. PK had known this, planned for it. The psycher’s own weapon coupled with the earth’s gravity would do his dirty work for him. The massive, fiery ball of doom slammed into the ground where Shadow lay, decimating the entire area. Behind his tree, PK waited to see whether he had succeeded, for if he had not, he was now a sitting duck...*

Re: Legacy Arena: The Resurgence

To the amassed spectators watching on in earnest are shocked when the competitors seem to suddenly freeze in place.

"Ladies, gentlemen and assorted others. We have temporarily stopped time within the arena so that our judges may deliberate upon what they've seen. So as not to bore you with the decades often needed to reach a decision, we will extend the temporal bubble to enclose the stands."

The crowd is suddenly very quiet before uproaring in a panicked frenzy of people trying to escape the unknown. The uproar is silenced instantly as they are gently plucked from the flow of time.
