Crab Catch Arena!

Right well... As was pointed out in the only remaining active thread, posting a interest thread is a sure fire way to make sure nothing happens. (no insult intended there Hewitt) As such, I'm a gonna skip that phase and jump right to the chase. Crab chase that is.

Lets have a run down shall we?

Here's my ever so feeble setting.

IN THE FUTURE!

Mankind has spread to the stars, it was bound to happen sooner or later, so they finally decided to do it. They've now colonized several new planets and even met an alien species called the Throm.

The Throm are a rather brutish sort, who are more in the mind set of smash people and planets to get what they want. They look oddly like upright, overweight, swine. Snout, tail and all. however, unlike pigs, the Throm have a very adverse reaction to high moisture evniroments. Such as by oceans and lakes.

Normaly, this wouldn't be a problem for the Throm, except when the Humans tried to make first contact with the Throm, they decided to invite them to a meal. The Throm found they liked human food, and in particular, they found the taste of Crab meat to be almost euphoria inducing.

Most of the time, the Throm searched for precious metals and resources to fuel their expansion, and then they would convert the dead planets into force farms to feed their appetites. In the case of the humans though, they found them selves in a quandary, if they destroyed humanity and did their usual thing, they would have to catch the Crabs themselves, and to do that, they'd have to whether Water and moisture.

So instead of Destruction for Humanity, a compromise was reached. The Throm would spare the humans, but only so long as the crabs kept coming, however, they would be stripped of most of their technology so that they couldn't rise up against them. The planetary goverments, aware of their precarious situation, took to holding annual tournaments to find the best crab cacthers in the colonies, and then set them out in teams to keep the worlds alive. The crab trade is carefully monitored, as it is both lucrative, and vital to survival, because of this, only those selected may hunt crab, lest they over strip the population.

This is where you come in. Free of all but the most primitive technology, you must battle it out with the other contestants to catch a crab in an arena of sand, water, and boulders. If you win, you will be trained in other crab catching methods and sent to help the world live, if you fail... well theirs always next year.

-----

Now I'll be DM'ing the crab, and the judges (yes their's judges) the rules are simple:

-No permanently injuring the competition
-The crab must still be edible
-You can use anything in the area to your advantage
-No killing the other people

You may describe your character is some brief detail and once we have a few players, I'll try to give you run down on the arena. If anyone is interested in making a map, feel free.

You may pick some equipment but remember, it's only primitive equipment. No energy nets or the such.

Re: Crab Catch Arena!

ooc: Really?

*Hewitt strolls into the arena much in a fashion that a gladiator from ancient times would yet his choice of clothing makes him look more like a Gilligans Island reject - complete with sea-stained sailors lifevest and hawaiian-style ex-military sea captains hat. In one hand he carries a rusty, salt encrusted iron trident and in the other a half-rotten yet sturdy, seaweed choked fishing net. Dragging both items carelessly across the ground behind him, Hewitt keeps walking towards the centre of the arena mind focused has he mentally prepares himself for the challenges to come.*

Re: Crab Catch Arena!

*Approaching from the opposite end of the arena from Hewitt, Crazy slowly and warily sneaks in, dragging behind him a large, dirty sack. His eyes dart around the arena as he shuffles his way through the entrance and into the cover of a nearby boulder. When he is safely hidden again from prying eyes, he opens up his sack, takes a look inside it and giggles.*

Re: Crab Catch Arena!

ooc: I am Aware of the show, but I've never actually sat down and watched it. Which is what will make the fact that I know nothing about crabs abundantly clear. Well we got two... I suppose if anyone else wants to join, we can let them later. For now, let the games begin.

The sun was hanging high in the sky, bathing the sandy ground of the arena with hot yellow light. The arena was filled to the brim, with people sitting in eager (and nervous) anticipation for the contest to come. A dull chatter filled the air.

The V.I.P. booth contained on Throm in sealed environmental chamber, kept to his preferences, and a skinny, pale human in a black suit. The Throm let out a string of squeals and snorts. The skinny man stood up slowly and walked to the edge of the booth. He raised his hands to quite the crowd and reached for a microphone handed to him by a aide. The crowd kept talking.

He swallowed loudly and dropped the microphone. It let out a massive thud and the crowd was instantly silenced. The man picked it up again.

"Ahem... Welcome all" his voice was painfully nasal, "to this years crab catch games. I would like to thank our sponsors the Throm for allowing us to live, and with that out of the way, I will now speak to our contestants. The crabs you are hunting this year are fresh water and terrestrial species. Due to the unfortunate going ons of last year, we are rethinking out ocean crab contest. Now then, once everyone is in position we'll begin."

----

Arena:

South section: The south section is a sandy stretch of land interrupted only by palm trees and shrubs. A small body of watter is nestled in along the wall. The body of water connects to the West section.

West: The westerly section of the arena is mostly a maze of boulders and ponds. The boulders are kept slick by a constant spray, and many of the ponds are deceptively deep. Most of the ponds feed into the connecting body of the south section.

North: North is again a sandy section but this one with boulders and burrows added in. Less water here, but their are plenty of hiding places for the crabs to scurry into.

East: The eastern section is a section of wild grass and tropical trees. There are a few rock outcroppings here, but it's mostly greenery.

Center: The center is there mostly for show, it's a circular platform of smooth stone, with four pillars making four points of a square on the inside. This is where the constants normally start.

Re: Crab Catch Arena!

Start in the center, in the center, with the big pillars, and large open space, in the center, they told him, yes they did. But he wasn't going to stand there, in the open, with all them eyes watching him. No. Not in the center, he wasn't going to start. Not if he could help it. Not when there were nice large boulders to hide behind and creep around and sneak along by. Yes, thats where he would go. To the nice big boulders, so he could be hidden from prying eyes. Yes, there, to the right, with all the nice cool water and big boulders. That is where he would start.
