Yeah, really, how many of us are there, compared to their 73? :P When there are 20 ships out there that each outmatch us by a ridiculous amount? And more fighters than we can shake our wangs at?

Honestly, there's going to need to be an Act of Plot to save our asses.

A alarm blared as the Deathdealer's sensors picked up the first of the Swarm ships slamming out of warp to tear into the outer ring of defense stations. "They're here." Thomas said, his obvious statement only underlining the tension rippling through the bridge.

"Indeed. Communications Officer, patch me into the ship's intercom system. I want to make an announcement to the entire crew."

For a moment, the ghosts of Tetra Genus floated before him, causing him to close his eyes. When he openned them a moment later, the ghosts were gone, leaving Joseph to wonder how many of his crew would join the throng before this battle was over. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Joseph turned to look expectantly at the Communications Officer. She tapped a few controls, and then mouthed the words, "You're On."

Turning back to face the sensor screen showing the ever expanding blob of red contacts, Joseph began to speak. "Good afternoon, everyone. As your duty officers have probably already told you, the Swarm has just begun its assault on the outer defense stations. As of now, we are at Red Alert, and will probably be in heavy combat very soon. However, we will not be fighting to defend the Cradle of Humanity as the rest of our comrades in arms will be doing. Instead, we will be fighting to defend the last desperate gamble of the human race. I will tell you now that the Battle of the Line will fail, and everyone you once knew, and everything you once cared for, will die. For all intents and purposes, they already are, and this last battle is merely a last cry of defiance against the night. But there is still one last hope for humanity's survival, and we, along with the rest of our small fleet are its guardians. In the coming days and weeks, I know that each of you will give it your all. I will tell you now that it will not be enough. The road ahead of us is dark and dangerous. For this mission to succeed, we must all become superhuman. This battle is just the first small step down the road to humanity's salvation. I expect to see not just all of you alive at the end, but a combat record that is far above anything the Deathdealer has achieved before. Remember: we may be beaten, but we aren't dead yet. Let's see to it that the Swarm regrets that mistake more than any other it has made before."

Joseph motioned for the Communications Officer to cut the channel, and then turned to Thomas. "So, how long till the Swarm reaches our position?"

Thomas, hunched over his own tactical display, frowned deeply at the latest tactical updates. "The Swarm is starting to break through the outer defenses now. The Angel fleet has launched, and all ships are forming up. Several Swarm ships have broken through the lines, and are bombing the dry docks. Two Angel escorts have been damaged, but they are now fomring up with the rest of us. The majority of the Swarm fleet is ignoring us, instead they are continuing in-system. However, we do have a significant flotilla of Swarm craft approaching. Looks like 3 carriers with escorts."

"Great. Get our torpedo tubes ready. If we still had our full compliment of torpedoes I would contemplate hammering one of the carriers to keep them busy, but since we don't, we should probably stick to smaller game. Get a targeting lock on one of the Merciless frigates, Weapons Officer. Once it comes within range, immediately fire off our torpedoes, and then switch targeting to any nearby Hellraiser gunships and give them a taste of our new Particle Cannons. Direct two of the .512 Pulse Cannons turrets to engage nearby Hellraiser gunships as well, while the other two are to focus soley on point-defense against Deathgliders and missiles."

Orders

Fire 2 Fusion Torpedoes at the nearest Merciless Frigate
2 .512 Pulse Cannons & 4 Particle Cannons at any nearby Hellraisers (hopefully focusing fire, with targeting priorities going to already wounded ships)
2 .512 Pulse Cannons on point-defense against Deathgliders and missiles.

When a frigate + escort, 3 hellraisers and 13 deathgliders decided to take potshots at you and hit

busy on changing it now tough

edit: Okay, as it stands I'm done, you'll find damages this time are a lot less heavy, with everyone except Flaag and ND staying above the 50% hull barrier, ND might get thrown an act of plot in his face to keep him from violently expelling his contents into nearby space but Flaag should survive now that there are a whole lot less enemies to deal with.

edit 2: note: all weapons on all ships that have been fired should count as such, next time, don't forget Fluffie's interceptors and .512 cannons. With those added (and 36 deathgliders biting the dust, instead of only 18) ND will survive, at least for now. Heiro, get your shields over there now

Might I point out, though, that a Tender-class vessel is capeble of stuffing in 10 Torpedo tubes (though only just barely)?

Logs, I love them. I even keep back-ups of them.

However when I replace a 10gb disc with an 80gb disc, that means losing pretty much all my e-mail addies. Not a problem because most of those are from people I know directly or people I was expecting e-mails from.

Yours however was not 1 of those and was thus lost. I also didn't feel like searching through several thousands of kilobytes of logs to find 1 e-mail addy, it would have token me several weeks, AT LEAST.

Anyways, you've got everything now, worked out neatly. So, be nice.

Heiro - You can, for this turn, get a plot-induced boost to shields so that you can protect YOURSELF and 3 others, reducing damage by 90%! That means for the 4 who get cover suffer only 10% damage.

Fire rocked the Vengence as Deathgliders pounded at the armoured hull. Explosions tore off chunks of armour, and sent the scrap metal spinning off into the darkness of space. Captain Richard gripped the arms of his command chair, the restraints digging into his chest as the small gunship rocked violently.

"Damnit! Those fighters are going to tear us apart! Terry! Find some ship with anti-fighter cover and get us ontop of them! Give me a status of our mac?"

James, the Tactical and Weapons officer, punched keys on his console. The screen flickered and showed the display of the ships primary, and only weapon, the Assault MAC. Sixteen of the twenty large magnetic coils were green, while one more was half green/red and the last three were completly red. "Magnetic coils are at 80% and charging. We'll be ready to fire in two minutes."

"Get a targeting solution on the nearest Merciless Frigate and prepare to send it to hell. Terry, bring us around the back of our target. Kat! Get online! Link up with helm and weapons. Make sure we're in exactly the right spot as soon as our gun is hot. I want a shot fired as soon as we're lined up and then we're getting the hell away. We need to move into cover of on of the larger ships that can get rid of the fighters. That explorer vessle looks like our best bet. Get us over there as soon as we've shot. Open a comm channel with them"

"Aye sir. You're on"

"Pandora, this is Captain Richard Sharpe of the Vengence. Requesting anti-fighter cover. We've no way of getting them off us. We'll take out any Capital ships in your path in return."

Menwhile, the gunship danced and ducked, as it tried to avoid fire from the mass of swarm fighters, and their bigger ships. As the last magnetic coil reached full charge, the screen on James' console switched view, to that of space, and their target vessel. The blue engines on the gunship flared, as the helm, assisteded by the AI, moved the ship into position. A countdown timer on the screen of James' console reached zero.

The Vengence shuddered, like it had been hit by a large rock, pushed almost to a stop by the force of the large slug leaving the cannon. As soon as the slug had left the Assault MAC, the ship turned, engines flaring very brightly, as the ship pushed off towards the larger ships with some anti-fighter weapons.

"Damange report!" Antohy commanded, through the constant sound coming from the ships pulse cannons.

"Sir, we have sustained 22% damage, the Crow Eater has sustained 38% damage, we are being targeted by...... lots of them, it seems we caught some attention..." replied the TO, simmerly having to shout to be heard.

"Right, helm, takes around for another pass, TO, have the Pulse cannons wait untill they are all fully recharged before letting of their next shots, comms co-ordinate this attack with the crow eater, were going to send some hellraisers to hell."

The Anubis swung itself about ready to strife the hellraisers, the crow eater a little way behind them, the guns on both ships had stoped and the swarm looked on, suddenly the guns on both ships erupted agin sending shots straight at the cluster os ships, shots hit and shots missed, nut the two ships kept on pounding them until their batteries had run dry, the crews of both ships could only now pray that they had taken down enough of the ships as to keep themselves alive a little longer. The ships now turned as one and their engines sprang to life heading back to thier former position aside the angel cruiser, ready for the onslaught that was the swarm's retribution.
