Re: Planet Wars: Redux

It really isn't. Raiding a League-guarded Trade Lane for resources brings the certainty of League action against you. Attacking a Trade Lane guarded by someone else just means it's likely that the League is going to take action against you.

Re: Planet Wars: Redux

New Techs
Here's some new techs. I'll get Crazy to edit them into the tree on the first page asap. Note that the RP prices shown below don't need to be doubled.

Advanced Colonial Administration (Civic, 6 RP)
With the need for outward expansion in order to reap greater resources for your planet ever increasing, the government has been forced to develope advanced colonial management techniques in order to sustain its control over the economies of more colonies. This tech allows you to have up to 3 colonies.
Gives: (raises colony limit to 3)
Requires: Interstellar Trade Management technology, Interstellar Passenger Industry technology, 2 colonies

High-Powered Sensors (not currently available)
Scientists aboard a New Tokyoan science vessel made a breakthrough in sensor wave research while attempting to find some way to pierce the Eastern Cloud Nebula. The resulting sensors, christened "high-powered sensors" are capable of providing normal basic sensor coverage within the Nebula. Outside of it, they cover an entire hex in terms of area. At close range they return a great deal more information than basic sensors can.
[i]Gives: High-Powered Sensor Array structure
Requires: Advanced Sensor Wave technology, Final Silicon Computer Systems technology

TRANSITION ADVANCE - Final Silicon Computer Systems (Science, 35 RP)
With the military, the commerical sector and scientific researchers all clamouring for faster and more efficient computer systems, engineers have managed to squeeze the last possible increases in power and processing strength out of the conventional silicon chip technology. The resulting computer systems are faster than any seen before, and have been dubbed "Final Silicon Computers" - for there is no faster computer system that can be built conventionally. The new systems are incredibly fast, and open up a range of possibilities in other fields.
Gives: ADVANCE TO TIER 2
Requires: Enlarged Capital Ship Chasis technology, Interstellar Liner Industry technology, Advanced Industrial Manufacture technology, Research Facilities technology

Tech sale!

Anyone interest in purchasing the sensor tech from me, PM me with an offer. I'd perfer a few decent techs I don't own, and some cash, but I'll take comodities, royalty agreements, and what not.

Lakhim: Now, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but your tech growth makes me verry nervious....

Maybe it's "Negative Event the Living Crap out of Lakhim's Burning Body!"-day. I suggested something like that. I think. Many memories concerning last weekend are vague and unclear.

Yay! Negative events!

(Labor day is much fun, but I need to do some work.)

Planet Wars Calendar Event: Labour Day
Labour Day, a traditional celebration of the common worker practised in America, where people everywhere in the country commemorate the brave actions of the first few labour unions. To commermorate this triumph of the downtrodden proletariat over their profiteering capitalist oppressors, I event massive socialist demonstrations across all your planets! Hooray!

Nova Centauri
Despite Nova Centauri's communist government supposedly ruling according to the writ of Marx, many workers on the planet feel as though the strongly authoritarian government has betrayed them. Despite their excellent education system, which has to a certain extent encouraged some would-be demonstrators to stay home, the workers of Nova Centauri look to the capitlist Alpha Centauri and see their equivelants on the neighbour planet enjoying a higher standard of living then they, with a greater deal of luxiury. Alpha Centauri is famous as a so-called "leisure planet", teeming with entertainment complexes and lush parks.

Novan workers took to the streets at 10 AM galactic standard time, foregoing the factories for an unauthorised holiday. The workers staged a slow marsh through the city's main streets, which brought traffic to a standstill, before staging a mass-rally outside of the government capital building.. The workers' demands are:

The construction of two Parks within the next year (two turns)
The construction of an Entertainment Complex within the next year (two turns)
Labour Day as a recognised worker holiday.

Several leaders of the workers have stated that they will not return to work untill these demands are met.

Sanchean
Sanchran, a progressive communist/borderline socialist planet, has despite its left-wing governmental leanings suffered a similar level of unrest to Nova Centauri. Around 8,000 of the planet's 18,000 industrial workers went to their factories as normal at 9 AM, but refused to work, instead staging rallies on a number of factory floors. They are demanding that the government construct two Parks and a Entertainment Complexes wiithin the year (two turns), and also demand Labour Day as a recognised worker holiday.

New Tokyo
On New Tokyo, a very low rate of taxation combined with the planet's reasonable education system and with the prospect of further civic structures to be constructed by the government has helped to reduce the level of protest put forward by the workers. Nonetheless, around 2,000 workers turned out for a Labour Day Parade, protesting at the Masaki Corporation's lack of recognisition for their right to union, and for what they percieve to be overwork and abuse by industrial sector supervisoers. The planet's four thousand unemployed took the cue and staged a much larger and more worrying demonstration, in the city's centre, protesting at the Masaki Corporation's inability to find employment for them. The workers demand an Entertainment Complex in addittion to the Park which is currently under construction. The unemployed demand the guarantee of employment within the next year (two turns) by the government.

---

Oh man this is going to take ages

I'll edit in the rest later, maybe. Basically you're all getting worker demonstrations and they're all demanding civic structures and worker rights concessions. How you react to the demonstrations is an A-L Scale Value modifier. The severity of your actions will affect how much their change your A-L Value.

OOC: A. Labor day is in May for Socialist Countries/Planets My workers already have May Day off.

B. How can I build them if I don't have the tech for it. Three turns is better then two, but besides that, they can have what they want. No big deal really.

Re: Planet Wars: Redux

ooc: My workers must be pissy if they complain this much when they have a higher SoL then KoL does (more buildings ect ect...)

May First, the Planet of Sanchean:

A whistle calls for attention and a halt to work at every place on the planet, and eyes turn towards the loudspeakers/televisions at each place of work, schooling, or play.

"Good Afternoon Comrades of Sanchean, this is Chairman Lakhim of the Governing Counsel of the People's Republic of Sanchean. Today is a glorious day in the history of Sanchean and of the Labor movement itself. It is the date of the founding of our Colony, the date of the infamous Haymaker Riots on old Terra, which lead to the establishment of the eight hour workday, and the traditional date of celebrations celebrating the Interplanetary Solidarity of All Workers, and today will be no different. We have come a long way from the founding of our colony, and although things have been difficult at times, we are poised on the edge of a new beginning for Socialism and the People. In a few short years we have leaped to the cutting edge of technology, within the month we will have factories churning out new robotic men that will allow us to lower the voluntary workday and increase productivity, we will have new mining ships to increase the availability of resources and reduce the strain of limits upon us, and most exciting of all, our researchers are poised to being constructing a computer that will begin to reach the final limits of silicon-based computing. The sky is no longer the limit, comrades, we are ready to go beyond the sky once more.

It has been a long journey, and we have been required to make some sacrifices, such as the restriction of holidays to allow us to get our industrial base setup and ready to build the infrastructure needed for our fine research facilities and our school system, one of the best in the Known Universe, but I am happy to say that such sacrifice is no longer needed. Beginning at noon today, all work will be stopped on Sanchean except for vital services and a planetary holiday will be declared, as for every year onwards. May First will be a holiday for the People forever more on the Planet of Sanchean and Morningstar Prime, and in honor of this holiday, we will begin construction on an entertainment complex for the People of Sanchean, and three parks to represent the sacrifices made by you, the workers, to allow our Planet to be the success that it is, a guiding beacon for workers across the known universe.

Thank you comrades for your time. It is now 12:00 noon, Sachean Standard Time, may this Holiday be as wonderful for you as the rest will be."

Re: Planet Wars: Redux

All
We might be possibly moving this thread to a private forum owned, hosted and run by Crazy.

This would alllow us to run multiple PW-related threads at once without annoying the non PW-players on this forum, which would be good and would greatly increase DMing speed / greaty decrease DMing effort. It would also benefit you, since a big budget thread would end the need for you to have to PM Crazy, etc.

Who likes the idea?

A good number have admitted to being pirates. Questioning of several Clan Lieutenants reveals that the pirates were more of a loose coalition than an actual clan, and that as such there was no clear leader.

No useful data was recovered from the base's computer systems - most of it was disorganised readouts on the base's forces and on the strength of the local militaries - though one section of it caught the eye of one of the doctors who by chance wandered by the technical op analysing the data while himself heading for the medical bay. The technical op had no idea what he was looking at - though he could tell it was some kind of computer model of a molecule - but the doctor quickly saw it for what it was, a molecule of some kind of drug. The doctor had never come across this drug before, but think the pirates probably found the data on a disc from one of their conquests.
+ Earlier by PK:
"Phang and Fluffie get 133RM, $$$66667"

For easiness sake etc I'll just agree on this and add it to my budget, soon coming.

Assuming that the prisoners and slaves are housed/inprisoned (after having by trialed for their crimes) etc on the planets of the Coalition, the Marines etc are brought home by Crazy and PK. Or something.

Ios will house some ex-slaves or prisoners should there be a need.

([ND] - t3h tag in case I indeed do need to house some people, so I can adjust my budget (add P or something).

Anti-piracy coalition
You get to decide how your judicial systems sentence the pirates. It will effect your A-L Value.

Re: Planet Wars: Redux

well then...

Oi, PK, Crazy, Phang!

Decide wether you, being the ones living closer to the pirate base, want to sentence the pirates. I can sentence some too, if you want and provide transportation, but I guess that you lot might want to do it, due to living closer. In a turn or so, I can send own ships to pick up the pirates if you want... I will also house surviving slaves etc, should you not want them..

Just bloody ****ing react, I mentioned this a while before already I believe.

ND: I'm proposing that we simply go out and kick the pirates asses in the meeting, I can supply some advanced forces and my 2 corvettes, whatever anyone else coming can spare will be apreceated. Including from players. As far as the workers demands, I am always trying to keep them employed, but with out RM, I can't build everything they demand. I am working on it, and I'll try to have that entertainment complex built next turn.

Crazy. I need my income stuff.

I'll send my two gunboats/vetts over, along with whatever shipping you need.

My only objection would be from a standpoint of sustainability, will we be able to keep the thread going on the outside forums.

Probably moreso. It's easier to DM if I've got all the budgets in the budget thread, all the force readouts in the forces thread, etcetera. Of course I'm still not going to be able to event-DM as a frequently or in as much detail as I did in the holidays

Re: Planet Wars: Redux

Oh, in case you missed it

[ND]

Pk, you need to have your ship make ups listed with each budget, so I don't have to dig back to when you first designed the ship to find out whats going on. Furthermore, with just a frieghter, I don't think you can ship 2000 RM to earth in just 6 months....

In that case, Earth is prepared to pay anyone with spare freighter capacity $30,000 for the use of each freighter.

Re: Planet Wars: Redux

As I understand it your hold ships are military ships capable of carrying 200RM each in small cargo holds. While i'm still willing to pay at the same rate per RM for that space my 30k was for a dedicated freighter (capable of carrying 800RM). So unless i'm mistaken you'd get 15k for both ships.

CRAZY: Why does IB's colonies get the same trade income as his homeworld when earth has a comercial dock, and they do not?

If that's true (and at the same time not true of PK's Freighter) then you get the 60k. I'll wait for No Dachi's confirmation that this is allowed before I edit but provided it is, consider yourself paid (and a great help to the cause of fascism on earth )

When you've quite finished persecuting my poor budget, you might notice that EVERY budget includes both the numbers of ships I have, and their classes (with equipment noted). Last time I asked ND, he said frieghters could make 5 trips a turn. Thus, unless he's randomly changed his mind (which I guess is possible ) my shipping is legal.
