"Oh dear god..."

The bridge crew of the Valkyrie watched in shock as the purple beam lanced from the asteroid and cut a deep gash into the Earth fleet. A stunned silence followed as the beam faded from view, leaving nothing where it had hit.

"We need to get that weapon offline before it can fire again... Give me a status on the teams."

"Alpha team has secured their objective. Beta and Charlie both report heavy resistance, but they are both close to their objectives." The Marine Captain spoke quietly, his eyes still fixed on the view of the fighting fleets, a large gap in the formation where the Carrier had been.

"Right. Recall Delta team. Have them booby trap the entrances into the evac zone, just in case. Ms Kelly, once Delta team is back aboard, I want us landing right next to that 'observation dome' We're taking down that gun. Captain, contact Alpha team and have them plant explosives on the hanger door. Then get them heading around the perimeter of the base. I want explosives placed out the edges of the base. We're going to bump their aim off a bit."

The twenty members of the 'Delta Team' quickly affixed explosives to the roof of the abandoned refining station, and to the entrance doors to the place, from the main base. Any unwanted guests to the refining station would find themselves quickly in many pieces, or flying through space. The last Dragoon ran up the ascending ramp, as Kelly started heating up the ship's thrusters.

The ramp hissed back into place, and the ship sealed with a clunk. It rose a couple of feet from the surface of the base, the maneuvering thrusters firing slightly. The ship turned about and moved forward, heading towards the section of the asteroid base housing the big gun.

Meanwhile, near the reactor room…

Sergeant Phillips scowled. He’s squad was virtually on top of their objective. A few more corridors and they would have it. But he has been holed up by a contingent of Haegmonia troops. He didn’t know about the base’s big gun, but he had felt the asteroid rotate. He didn’t think anything about it.

He loaded a new clip into his assault rifle and, crouching, looked around the corner. Squeezing off two shots, the head of a Haegmonian troop exploded in a shower of red blood. Seconds later, a grenade bounced off the wall, and round the corner. The shouts of the Heagmonian troops were silenced seconds later as it exploded.

“Go go go. Move!”

The Sergeant was up and running, followed by his squad, as the smoke from the grenade cleared. Guns flaring, the men rounded the corner, cutting down those left standing.

Blood splattered, and tired, Beta squad continued forward, guns ready, heading towards the entrance to the reactor room. Bodies of the dead defending troops littered the floor behind them. They took up positions, covering the door, while one of the techys fiddled with the control panel. The door slowly hissed open, as the troops aimed towards any who might be inside.

Somewhere near the Command center, a vicious fire fight was going on between the Dragoons and the defending troops. Insert some stuff about the fire fight, and the Dragoons using their cunningness to flank the defenders using handy airvents

In the Hanger

“Doors are rigged sir!”
“Good. Now lets get the hell outta here. Head back towards the rally point. We’ll take a long route and plant explosives as we go. Move!”

Alpha team started running from the hanger, heading along corridors that were near the edge of the base, planting explosives between blast doors, and making their way towards the evac point, probably bumping into Charlie team and helping them.

In space

The Valkyrie slowly touched down near the big gun port that housed the big gun thing. The cutting lasers on the ship breached the base’s hull once again, and Delta team, quietly entered the base again. Their weapons fitted with silencers, they moved to secure the landing area, then moved out towards the gun room, with the aim to disable the gun and not overly damage or destroy it.

In the event of the gun trying to fire again, Alpha team are to detonate the explosives in the hanger.

Operation Returning Wrath

This tactical combat feed is certified as to be from Admiral Takena Kincade, commander of the MCF Athena and master of the 4th Fleet of the Earthguard. Location of relay from MCF Athena is 0.5 lightyears from the edge of Haegmonian territory, Revastus Nebulae.

*Takena was worried. A moment ago, the battle had been going exactly to plan, even better than he could have hoped, but now… That massive battle cannon had cut a swathe through Yellow Squadron like they were nothing. There was still a chance that this would work out favourably though, as the Stealth Frigate had already managed to land troops on the asteroid. It was really down to them now. If the cannon went down, the battle would probably be won. If not… well things would not be good. In any case, Green Squadron could not afford to be held back now, what with losses as they were. The second the cannon went down, they would jump in to reinforce the fleet.*

Report: The lightly damaged cruiser that had been doing the attacking, now became far more damaged, as your ship wheels suddenly about. Now, a cruiser’s engines are not meant for rapid maneuvering, but the crew recognized the need, and didn’t complain, but the engines themselves are another matter. The ship creaks with the strain as the engines and power systems go beyond tolerance. On your damage board, red indicators appear on several of your engines, indicating that they’re offline. Enough remains for you to continue moving around, but another sharp turn like the one you just did would not be advised. The enemy fairs worse though, with your lasers beating down the ‘Charlie’s shields, golden storms of energy flowing out from the points of impact. The mass rounds blast straight through, impacting on the enemy hull. Just as you see the explosions, the cruiser’s fore shielding dies away. Obviously they haven’t just stayed idle through this, and their laser fire and missiles have been nibbling away at both your starboard (while you turned) and fore shields and armour.

Report: The rapid reversal in the engines was not appreciated by the power systems, but it had to be done. A few red lights began to blink as several conduits blew out. The damage was reduced to a minimal though by your crew. In response to your comms, a message returns saying to launch now, seeing as if they weren’t used now, the Deltas might never get the chance to. Caution was no longer and option, that cannon had to be disabled immediately. Your fire on the destroyer is moderately effective, mostly due to it being already damaged. It would be a lot fairer if someone hadn’t pounded it first. Your two ships trade fire, until the ‘Echo’ begins to break off, heavily damaged on its port side. It begins to roll, in case you decided to follow. For your part, the Strider’s starboard weaponry and hull is about half as effective as it should be. Your bombers fair rather well though, dropping green-glowing plasma bombs onto the ventral surface of the lumbering heavy destroyer. Needle missile fire is confused by the mass of escorting Alphas, and after the first run, these batteries go silent, pulverized by the energy bombs.

Report: Your troops, continuing to fight admirably, though now with several losses, find their way into both of the corridors outside the reactor room and command centre, but are cut off by sealed doors. There aren’t many troops left behind them, but the actual crew themselves had the good sense to seal themselves inside. It won’t take long to breach them, but for now the Dragoons just have to wait. D-Team fair better though, surprising a squad of Haegmonians who were busily setting charges about a fire control room. The last one to be shot managed to fall onto a console, simultaneously activating the firing sequence, and the remote for the charge he’d just placed, thus blowing up the console he’d fallen on. Your sensors, close as they are to the cannon, begin to pick up its power systems charging. Fortunately, the explosives you’d already put in place are detonated in time, and the asteroid begins to spin away. Before anyone in the bridge can correct it, the lilac pulsating beam blasts out once more, this time harmlessly into space. Looks like Breaker Epsilon will be shortly in Earthguard hands, since the Deltas of Yellow Squadron are on their way.

*The fleet, having scattered at the first blast, has begun to reform into some form of coherent mass. The Deltas are now beginning to stream towards the asteroid facility, attempting to stay out of its gunsights. There is a collective gasp when the cannon begins to fire again, but several explosions on one side push it into a spin, redirecting it away from the fleet. A comm comes in from the Athena, informing you that Green Squadron is jumping in soon, as long as the cannon is inoperable. Better get cracking then…*

Report: The crew obviously agrees with your tactical assessment, as hey go about their tasks with relish. A conservative quantity of fire is launched at the surviving ‘Delta’, just as it fires a last, rather hopeful barrage in your direction. Your needlemissiles easily deal with the missiles, though the lasers and mass rounds continue to cause damage to your shields and hull, this time the rear section. The ‘Delta’ fairs worse, as your rounds slam into the damaged sections of hull, through it and into the bowels of the ship. There is a secondary explosion, and its running lights die. Looks like its reactor is gone. The Andromeda, rolling to present its less damaged port side to the ‘Echo’ class now attacking it, begins to move towards the protection offered by your guns.

Report: The ‘Bravo’, despite being slow and lumbering, does have rather a lot of guns, and one was bound to hit. Fortunately it was only pulse lasers that managed it, mostly due to the skill of your pilot and your armour only receives a small battering. Your dumping of projectile fire into the larger vessel’s rear does not of course finish it off, but your sensors do register that its engines are certainly damaged. That should make it easier prey for other craft. The ‘Juliet’, while not designed for eliminating your class of craft, did do a better job than the ‘Bravo’, hitting you with several laser rounds. Your return fire peels back armour plating and blows off one of its ion beams, but its still not going to be that easy. Fortunately, your missiles are ready again.

The thunder of pulse laser on armor shook Merrimack to her very bones as the mighty enemy Bravo battlecruiser swatted out at her in a rage, hurling a firestorm of fire at the little frigate. Ensign Jones' skilled maneuvering took the Earthguard frigate out of the line of fire from the behemoth's Mass Drivers, and instead took the pulse lasers along the ship's sturdy spine. Jorge just gritted his teeth as they passed through the firestorm, and idly thought of how wasteful the fire of the battlecruiser's weapons was against them. Then the Juliet moved in, and that dance began.

Gridley's unflagging aim brought the Merrimack's lasers to the Juliet's hull, and vice versa, but seeing one of the Ion Beam Cannons of the other frigate explode from a hit to the capacitors heartened the crew. A cheer was cut almost short as another Ion Beam fired, but again missing due to a twitch maneuver from Jones at helm. Several more bolts pounded out from Merrimack's twin cannons, tearing holes into the Lance Frigate's armor. A few reply bolts sprayed back, a couple connecting to shake Merrimack again.

"Sir, Missiles are hot!" Gridley reported, ignoring the reports of readiness from the Mass Driver crews. The blinking red of the missile pod was more prominant, and far more effective in this situation.

"Get us a lock, and take those Haegemony bastards out!" Jorge snarled, clenching his fist and leaning forward as another enemy laser bolt struck his ship's hull. Shields were a luxury that Merrimack couldn't afford, just like the Mass Driver autoloaders. At least the missiles were in a self-contained pod with the autoloaders.

Merrimack spun about on one wingtip, and streaked over the Juliet frigate, narrowly avoiding the Ion Beam that tried to cut up into her, with her Laser Cannons flashing with murderous power. The angry mouth of the Missile Pod opened up to let fly a flurry of missiles down into the wounded Juliet, and its fate was surely sealed. Merrimack pulled hard up, and left the Juliet to wallow in the explosions for a moment, free for a few blessed moments in the battle.

"Chief, find a target for the Driver and let 'em have it!" Jorge ordered, making a decisive gesture with his fist across his chest. Merrimack was hot for blood, and had a slug hot in the barrel.

"Golf class destroyer, dead ahead!"

"Shove it down his throat, Chief!"

With the stroke of a finger on the firing stud, Merrimack's Mass Driver hurled a hypervelocity round out of its barrel, and rammed it right into the prow of the most heavily damaged of the two Golf Destroyers, right alongside the ravaged Torpedo tube that dominated the ship's nose, a deadly potshot into an already-wounded vessel.

"Ensign, bring us around for one last pass on the Juliet in case she survived the missiles... I don't want it still alive to potshot us yet again." Merrimack's master ordered, nearly standing. The Chief Gunnery officer warmed up the Laser Cannons once more, and fired into the Juliet, targetting whatever systems might still be active.

Mao shifted in his seat. He heard the comms chater from the fleet. Things had gotten much worse. Now the enemy had a gun that could take out several ships at once. With any luck the men attacking the asteriod would get that thing under control. It dind't matter anyway if the gun wen't down green squadron goes in. If the fleet suffered to many cassualties green would probably go in anyway except without the Athena. Either way he was gonna go into his first battle, with a green crew in a small ship. Hopefully he could find a larger ship to 'team up with', but mao wasn't going to hold his breath.

" Bring the shields online, power weapons have missels crews on standby fo reload i wan't to go in ready" Mao spat out these orders with as much calm as he could muster. The crew immeadeatly began to prepare for battle. Mao had a feeling he wasn't the only gittery one
