Re: Marines

Prison Complex B, Main Corridor

Phang/PK/Fluffie/Zappa/Crazy
Before departing to warn the other guards of the approach f heavily-armed Bio Marines, Sergeant Phang quickly darts back into the main corridor and opens the heavy security door the to Secondary Armoury before heading back out into the exit room, opening the guards' entry door and rushing inside with Lieutenant King. The second security door shuts firmly behind them.

Crazy
You immediately start running back down the main corridor toward the cell block, leaving the others behind. You hear explosions from further back, and being the expert in explosives that you are, recognise them as coming from high explosive grenades. None of this concerns you, as you are intent on reaching the cell line and freeing your buddies as quickly as is possible. You reach the heavy security door at the end of the corridor and find it shut. You have no remote number key with which to open it...

Suddenly, the world explodes. Daxed and winded, you find yourself lying on your back on the floor. You pick yourself up, ears ringing, to see a large hole in the roof and a guard (Kama) lying awkwardly slumped against the door, having apparently fallen through the hole. A length of air vent has also collapsed through the hole, sloping diagonally downwards to the floor from the cieling. As you look around, trying to figure out what's going on, three more of the purple creatures drop down through the gash in the cieling tiles, falling onto the metal of the air vent. They look around, seeing you and the guard. You are looking up but the guard is still slumped against the door. With a piercing battle cry, the frontmost creature leaps at you, claws outstretched. The other two look about to follow suit...

Fluffie
The door to the armoury now open, Sergeant Warren rushes into the Secondary Armoury ahead of Corporal Zappa. Although you cannot see him following you, you saw him picking up grenades before you left, and now can hear a lot of explosions. Sergeant Sharpe continues on down the corridor, heading back toward the cell line in order to free the remaining prisoners. Looking around the armoury, you see a lot of pulse rifles, a few shotguns and pulse pistols, a lot f standard armour with helmets and headsets and a bit of reinforced armour along with the corresponding headsets, as well as a few grenades. None of this is, of course, of any use to you, since you're already carrying as much equipment as you can.

Zappa
You crouch down and scoop a grenade off one of the corpses before pulling the pin and flinging it around the corner as hard as you can. The grenade bounces off the steel wall of the corridor and dissapears around the corridor. You produce another grenade and fling it around the corner to your right, then repeat the process, before deciding to run for it. You dash back through the heavy security bulkhead, which is very wide, forming the entire front wall f the exit room. You can see the door controls inside the partitioned area that would normally belong to the guard on duty. The door to the partition is open, having not closed after the lieutenant and the guard went through. You can hear curses and orders to halt the advance coming in over the Bio Marine Company's radio frequency. "This is Corporal Iy Ten, taking grenades, the sergeant is down as are two other men, I have assumed control of the squad, requesting medical assistance, over." Is the first thought-out speech you hear, followed closely by an order from an officer who is apparently the XO. "All squads, hold position! Looks like they've got the entrance guarded. Light Squad move in and secure the position immediately. Heavy Squad follow them in. Move out!" You hear another voice soon after it. "Sergeant Johnstone, Light Squad is moving in to secure the entrance now.". More footsteps from out in the corridor...

Prison Complex B, Guards' Entrance Corridor

Phang/PK
With Sergeant Phang having opened the door to the Secondary Armoury, the two of you now run through the guards' entrance. You immediately come face to face with another guard, Corporal Lowestaff, charged with exit guard detail for today's day shift. He is a Technial Op, but general consensus holds that he's also a competent soldier, more competent than he lets on. He is, at the moment, however, still dreary from lack of sleep. He blinks twice at Phang, then salutes.

"Sorry sir, kind of tired...eh...that's..."

He stares at Lieutenant King, and at Lieutenant King's pulse rifle and assault shotgun, looking confused...

Prison Complex B, Between Level (above)

Bakan
Leave the damage you cause to me from now on, please .

As you see the Marine, you cannot see the unit insignia, but assume him to be friendly nonetheless. Preserving the Marine's life immediately becomes your primary objective, and you switch into combat mode. You immediately open fire with the grenade launcher, aiming for the centre of the mass of aliens. On impact, the grenade explodes and immediately the entire vent shakes violently, a thick cloud of smoke obscuring the view. With use of infra red vision mode, you manage to pick out the remaining creatures by their (barely perceptible) heat signiatures. You kill two with bolt cannon rounds, and the heavy projectiles shatter their bodies completely. The remaining creatures now mostly turn to face you, although three appear to drop down through the floor of the vent, wherupon their heat signals vanish from sight. You kill two more of the aliens with two more bolt rounds, and then crush two with your powerful forearms. However, the creatures are fast. The two remaining in the vent wait untill you are crushing both of their luckless brethren against the floor of the vent before attacking. Two things become evident immediately; that the creatures are intelligent and that they have encountered humans before, because they immediately head for the weakest point on most Marines; the neck. Two pairs of razor sharp claws scythe at your metallic neck, and although you sense a few wires cut, they cause only superficial damage.

Kama
You begin to beat out a hasty retreat, but, as you are shufflinf backwards, you just about make out something (Bakan) moving behind the mass of creatures. You see a flash of white light and, the next thing you know, you are lying slumped against a heavy security door - thankfully out of the vents - aching all over and with your ears ringing like crazy. There is dust and smoke everywhere. At least whatever happened got you out of the previous tight situations...

Or not. You hear another piercing shriek, this time coming from very close behind you...

Re: Marines

Richard shook his head to clear it as he rose. He looked up at the ceiling, where the explosion came from, then noticed three things drop down.

"Ah hell. Not theses again!"

Richard took a step back, bring his shotgun up, and pumping a round into the chamber as it rose. Richard took sight down the open scopes on the shotgun, lining them up with the alien that was the nearest. As his gun rose, the alien let out a screech and leapt towards him. Purple blood and gore splattered the walls as the alien exploded in mid air. Richard pumped the shotgun, the red shell casing spinning out of the chamber as a new shell was forced in. Quickly aiming on the alien that was nearest to the unmoving gaurd, Richard squeezed the trigger, blasting the seconded alien. Before the first shell casing had hit the ground, Richard once again pumped the shotgun, ejecting the spent casing and loading a new one in as he aimed at the third alien and again squeezed the trigger.

*Kama's brow was tense and furrowed, his head hurt, he choked in the viscous air, his lungs hurt, opening heavy eyes he saw his lower body sprawled at an angle, his legs hurt, they hurt a lot and he slowly awoke to the fact he was slumped against a wall or door or something, his back hurt. Glancing to his side he found the shotgun lying in pain, the trigger was still around his hand mangling his fingers, they hurt.

Trying to place his where abouts, he ticks over the previous moments, vents, aliens, lots of aliens, white.. loud, pain... and he was sure there was a dose of terror in there, but it was like a grenade going off there, that got him here, one course of action he might have registered at some point, but considering had was now resolved in thinking large explosions and tightly confided spaces were not a good mix.

The piercing familar shriek was little comfort in the fact that his ears were still quite alive, pain and bruising asside he had best do something, picking up his eyeline he tried to look around the room.

Re: Marines

*Sensing the two creatures, Bakan quickly rotates it's arms around. Designed for maximum field of movement, they easily bend around to grab of the creatures in a "hand". Getting a firm grip on each, Bakan squeezes them, then yanks them off and thows them forward. One shot from each bolt-launchers easily disposes of the creatures, with their remains flying throughout the remains of the vent.*

*Scanning the vent, Bakan concludes that prehapes the grenade was not the best choice, but it was very effective in clearing the unknown bio-forms away. Seeing the section where the unidentified human fell through, Bakan quickly moves to that area and jumps down in front of a marine. Quickly scanning him, Bakan concludes that he is suffering from a assortment of minor injuries.*

"Greeting, I am combat droid Bakan. Are you in need of medical attention?"

Re: Marines

Prison Complex A, Secondary Armoury

Fishbone
You see that there are more than enough guns for the prisoners present. [For quickness] You grab yourself a pulse rifle, some reinforced armour and a pack of basic medical supplies (there are a few of these lying around in addition to the weapons). You are standing near the door, the man furthest towards it, the other former inhabitants of Prison Complex A are all busy getting themselves weaponry. A couple of NCOs are trying to get some semblance of order into place by chivvying the soldiers on toward carrying out Lieutenant Tremaine's orders. However, you can hear something else from down the corridor, up past the armoury and toward the guards' quarters. Sounds like...shouting, gunfire...explosions...sounds like a battle of some kind is going on. As you listen, you hear the clunk clunk clunk clunk of an armour-encased Heavy Marine coming down the corridor. Multiple Heavy Marines, by the sound of it. As you listen, you hear an announcement over hidden intercom speakers...

Fishbone/Dave/Inspectre
The hidden speakers in the Secondary Armoury, wherever they are, are apparently not being accessed over the usual guard intercom system, but from the hissing static it sounds like someone is broadcasting to it from a radio transmitter.

"Attention all prison guards and prisoners, you are to lay down your weaponry immediately and surrender to the nearest Bio Division Marines. I repeat, all guards and prisoners are to surrender to the nearest Biological Weapons Division personnel immediately. Any guard or prisoner found armed will be shot on sight."

Apparently, word of your escape has got out. And, apparently, the guards have somehow incurred the wrath of the Bio Division as well...

Inspectre
You bawl out orders. A couple of NCOs, mostly ranking sergeant, begin shouting out cruder versions of your orders to the men. Within around a minute, everyone is armed (albeit reasonably lightly) and waiting to move out. You see that a few Medics have managed to grab basic medical supplies. Presently you order everyone to move out. A couple of plucky young privates immediately rush out of the door, weapons ready. You immediately hear the distinctive whirring of a pulse minigun beginning to spin, and seconds later two of the privates are torn to pieces. The third manages to throw himself back through the door just in time. Apparently there's hostiles waiting on the other side of the door...

Fishbone/Dave
You see the above as well.

Dave
It's not there unless I say it is; no technical ops stuff for you, yet. Also the pulse rifles in the Secondary Armoury aren't scoped

Prison Complex A, Between Level (beneath)

Hewitt
A hail of pulse rifle rounds completely obliterates the creature, and your front is spattered with purple gore. Luckily, your visor prevents the worst of it from going in your eyes. You look around, tense and ready, the between level seeming eerily silent after the sudden burst of noise a few moments back. No more of the things appear to be in the immediate vicinity...better finish the job, report the intruder to base and then get the hell out of the vents...

*Bradley watches and listerns as the two privates are torn apart by the minigun fire. Not being used to such horrors, Bradley turns away and is almost sick. Composing himself, Bradley picks up two grenades from a box in the armoury, pulls the pins and throws them out the door and down the corridor towards the Bio Marines*

"Fishbone, check out that private, see if he's all right"

Re: Marines

Fishbone, hearing the sounds, tries to warn the senior officers. They have their hands full with the numbers of marines trying to grab weapons though.

As he heard the clunk clunk clunk down the corridor, he warned the privates to watch out. Only one heard him, and jumped out of the way, barely in time. He heard a loud whirring noise, familiar as a minigun, and an orangey light towards the end of the tunnel. The clunking got closer, and he clicked his rifle from "Safety" to "Armed" position, and moved back slightly. He knew his place in fights, and it was not at the forefront. He was going to be needed after any firefights, to help the wounded.

He grabbed the marine, who's body was half in the armoury still.

"Can you hear me private? Hang in there! You're with top marines, and they've just found weapons! We're going to get out of here, and you're coming with me private! Private? Stay with me!"

Not being able to see the extent of the injuries made Fishbone's job very hard, but he did his best. He held his gun to his side, and holstered it in his hip. This left his other hand free to cradle the marine's head. The gun trained into the blackness down the corridor, he felt very nervous. The silence was unbearable, and he started to wish he'd just stayed within his cell.

"Marine! You WILL stay with me! Now tell me please, where does it hurt?"

Re: Marines

Hearing the 'nades explode and seeing the overwhelming amount of weapons in front of him, Fluffie curses. Lots of weapons, but he was kind of alone here. Cursing, he stuffs as much Pulse Pistols on his body as he can, before letting both of his own rifles hang on his back. Grabbing as much Rifles and Shot Guns as he can with both arms, he starts moving towards the Prisoner Complex as fast as he can, hoping he'd make it in time.

Re: Marines

Phang sighed. He'd been doing that a lot lately.

"Corporal, listen very carefully. the Bio Marines are coming. They've been experimenting with Xenos. The prisoners aren't traitors, they're people that found out about this. The Bios are sending squads to kill all of us. Get the others mobilized. NOW, Corporal!"

Re: Marines

"F*** off!" Jake snarls at the comm message, earning a few chuckles from the several nearby prisoners that heard him. Activating his comm, Jake said, "Alright boys, looks like they've made us. Time for us to get out of here. Move out!"

Unfortunately, the two privates nearest to the armory door would only too happy to oblige, and this turned into a deadly mistake for them as pulse mini-gun fire tore them apart.

"SON OF A B****!!!" Jake screamed, running towards the door and the two fallen men. Seeing Lieutenant Dave already there, and with two grenades, Jake pulls a grenade of his own off of his belt. He cradles the deadly munition in his hand, and watches as Dave throws his two grenades out the door, and down the corridor where the gunfire came from. Counting down the time until detonation in his head, Jake waited until he heard the explosion, waited an additional second, then leaded around the armory doorway and out into the corridor beyond. If any of the Bio Marines were still standing, they were about to get an additional unpleasant surprise as Jake pulled the pin on his grenade and threw it directly at their feet, before ducking back into the armory.

I am hereby putting Marines ON HOLD untill after my exams finish. This will be in around one to two months. Whilst I can appreciate that this is a long wait, it is preferable to the thread dying through lack of attention on my part, and after the exams are over I'll have a lot of free time.

Wiating for some form of contact from Zappa, Kama, Fishbone and Dave. Hunt them down and drag them back into this thread, kicking and screaming if necessary. Bakan has informed me via MSN that he is still interested in the thread and is exempt from his little hunting session.

Re: Marines

Prison Complex B, Main Corridor

Crazy
Getting to your feet, you see the first creature jump and subsequently dispatch it. The second and third creatures follow it almost simultaneously, but switching aim fast with the shotgun you manage to drop both of them as well. Just then the dust in the air begins to thin out. You can see the guard (Kama) from before, except he's now slumped semi-conscious against the left wall rather than against the door. At precisely this moment someonething large and heavy smashes into the flooring from above. Bringing your shotgun to bear, you see one of the newer combat droid models (Bakan). It crouches on the ground and asks the guard if he needs medical attention. The guard seems pretty out of it, and briefly mutters something about aliens and how much he hates his job before passing out. Presently you hear boots pounding the steel floor plates from further back along the corridor, and turn to see Sergeant Warren bombing it along the corridor, his arms stuffed full of pulse rifles and assault shotguns. You can hear explosions and gunfire coming from way down the corridor, back at the entrance. The door to the cell block is still locked, but you could get into the Above Between-Level via the collapsed air vent...maybe there'd be some way into the cell block from there.

Bakan
You spot and identify two Marines from two different units in the corridor. One, armed with an assault shotgun (Crazy), is wearing a uniform without any unit badge, only the insignia of a private. This merites questioning.. The other, a guard, (Kama) is wearing the uniform of a Military Police Division soldier. The guard drops out of consciousness immediately after you speak to him, and so you decide that he does indeed need medical attention. You [for quickness] rotate your medical multitool to produce the needle, and inject a few cubic centimetres of stimulant. Within five seconds the man is conscious again.

Kama
Turning yourself around, you reach for your weapon, intent once more on saving yourself from death. Just as your turn to see the screeching creatures, a gunshot reverberates around the corridor. You see what looks like a Bio Marine, with a blood-spattered gas mask, but no unit badge (Crazy) firing an assault shotgun, which he does three times in quick succession, killing all three of the creatures. You can't quite seem to focus all this time, and are curiously unconcerned by the possibility of impending violent death. At this moment, somehting big and heavy drops down from the vent above. You can just about see a combat droid, clouded as your vision is. It asks if you need medical assistance, and in reply you burble something about how much you hate the planet, feeling a bit out of it. Everything goes dark.

You wake up staring at the combat droid, with the air still carrying a bit of dust, and so assume that not a lot of time has passed since you blacked out. You're feeling a lot more alert and your head is a lot clearer, which is a good thing, but on the other hand you're still aching all over, which is bad. Maybe the combat droid can help...

Fluffie
You cram as many guns as you can into your arms, intent on supplying your fellow prisoners with some means of defending themselves and, hearing gunfire and explosions from back at the entrance, decide to retreat as quickly as possible down the main corridor. About half way down, you hear an explosion from up ahead as well, and seconds later a cloud of dust rushing towards you obscures everything. Coughing and spluttering, you do the only thing you can do, which is to keep running down the corridor. The dust cleard within a few moments. You can see two people and one...thing, a combat droid (Bakan) by the look of it, in the corridor. You recognise one of the men, the one standing, as Sergeant Sharpe. The other is a guard (Kama), but beyond that you don't recognise him. He doesn't seem like much of a threat, being as he is unconscious, but just then the combat droid revives him. You notice that part of the cieling has collapsed, forming a potential access point into the maze of vents and passageways above the U-20 level. Sergeant Sharpe still hasn't got the heavy security door into the cell block open...

Zappa?
Post if you're still here and want to continue

[u]Prison Complex B, Guards' Entrance Corridor[/b]

Phang/PK
Corporal Lowestaff listens, suddenly looking a bit more awake than before, but he doesn't look convinced. You both see him nudge the muzzle of his pulse rifle slightly more-towards Lieutenant King, talking to Sergeant Phang as he does so.

"I'm not so sure, sir, I haven't heard any gunfire or nothing..." He says, looking distinctly unconvinced. At that moment, however, Providence intervenes and saves you both from a potentially dangerous situation. The intercom system flares into life, and, following a hiss of static, you hear an unfamiliar voice speaking.

At once, Corporal Lowestaff raises the muzzle of his pulse rifle away from the two of you, holding it instead diagonally across his front. He raises his head and looks around, apparently trying to spot the intercom speakers that the voice came from.

"Er...guess I'll take your word for it then, sir..." He says, sounding a little bit shaken. This obviously wasn't what he wanted for the morning, tired as he is, "but...erm...I can't, like, mobilise the others, 'cos they're all either asleep or all over the complex..." You both notice that he seems to have forgotten that his helmet has a built in radio headset.

Re: Marines

Prison Complex A, Secondary Armoury

Dave
You see the two luckless privates get minced by pulse minigun fire and, thinking fast, grab two grenades from one of the racks and, having pulled the pin on each, throw them out toward the Bio Marines. Although you cannot see your target, you know which direction they're in, and bounce the two grenades through the doorway off the opposite side of the corridor. You hear them bounce and then roll to a stop, then, second later, you hear two loud bangs in quick succession. Jagged pieces of shrapnel are sent skittering down the corridor outside the doorway, followed be a few whiops of smoke. You can hear shouting coming from the Bio Marines, their voices characteristically distorted by their speaking through microphones in their gas masks. Lieutenant Tremaine at this point rushes through the doorway, grenade in his hand, and you see him throw it down the corridor before flattening himself against the wall. You hear another explosion, and a few more pieces of shrapnel clatter across the floor. You can't see any return fire coming toward the other lieutenant...

Fishbone
Hearing Lieutenant Bradley's order, you make sure your pulse rifle is armed and ready before rushing down to the surviving Marine. He's lying on his front when you reach him, so you turn him over to see if he's been wounded. You're quickly relieved to see that, although his armoured vest has been broken down near the gut, the round that did it apprarently just nicked the flesh, and didn't explode. He's bleeding but otherwise seems fine. He does, however, seem to be approaching hysterical.

"Shit! Shit! They got me! They got me! I'm dieing!" He yells, squirming under your grip on his shoulder, trying to get a look at the wound. At this moment he seems to spot you for the first time. He sits bolt upright, grabbing you by the arm. "You gotta' help me doc! I'm dieing! They shot me in the gut!" He shouts this too before abruptly falling backwards flat onto the deckplates, unconscious. You surmise from the whole display that he has probably never been wounded or indeed seen wounding before.

Inspectre
You watch Lieutenant Bradley throw two grenades around the corner of the doorway, into the corridor beyond, and wait untill they detonate. A few moments later, and an explosion rips through the air outside, with a few shards of torn steel corridor cartwheeling across the doorway after it. You see a few whisps of smoke as well and then, deciding to take advantage of the situation as best you can, you rush out into the corridor beyond. You cannot see the Bio Marines, for thick black smoke has filled the corridor further down its length, and so pull the pin on the grenade and throw it as a precaution. It vanishes into the cloud of smoke, but you hear it bouncing across the steel floor before clattering to a halt. Seconds later, another explosion. The smoke billows outwards and rushes past you, enveloping you, just as another shrapnel fragment narrowly misses your leg. You can hear the Bio Marines shouting to eachother through the external speakers on their masks. None of them are firing - by the sound of it a few of them are wounded, and the others are trying to evacuate the casualties - but you remember gas mask visors as coming with infra red, so as soon as they do start shooting, they're going to be able to see you...

*For the next few seconds the only sound the the small room is that of Hewitt's heavy breathing.*

What.

The f*ck.

Was that?

*Wiping the majority of the purple gore from his visor, Hewitt moves around the room slowly on the look out for any other nasty surprises.*

"Hewitt to control. I found the problem, some wiring has been chewed up. I also came across some weird little purple critter as well that most likely did all the chewing. Am now proceeding to the damaged wiring to access what can be done over."

*Having made certain no other mystery xenos were located in the area, Hewitt goes over to the chewed up wires to see if anything can be done.*

Re: Marines

Fishbone was confused. This wasn't a regular combat situation - he hadn't been trained to help some hysterical guy while trying to escape from a prison himself!

"Jeez" he muttered under his breath, and cupped the man's head in his arms. He shook his arms, and spoke loudly to him "Marine! I need you to wake up!".

He continued this, in the hope that the man would wake up and he could try to calm him down. He had as much time as the squad was pinned down. As soon as they'd start to move out though, he would have to either haul this guy along, or leave him.

*Kama groans some more
"...Tight spaces... THINGS... blinding noise... floor..."

*Trying to make sense of things, the shrapnel, the other figures in the room and why the hell they put up with this "Durasteel" stuff

"Some of that assistance sounds pretty good right about now... wonder if I can move"
*He searches his field of view and tries to crane over and locate his weapon of choice, which would be the one capable of getting him some answers, fast answers, and lots of cool actiony stuff.

Re: Marines

Realizing that he didn't have much time before the Bio Marines started shooting again, Jake activated his comm link and shouted into it again. "Alright you slugs, it's time to get the f*** out of here before those Bio-B*stards start shooting again! Now I want everyone getting out of the Armory and falling back away from the Bio-Marine's position, double-time. Pick a partner and stick with them, in the event we all get seperated - least then you'll have someone to watch your back. Now go, go go!!"

Remembering that his helmet's visor contained an infra-red portion, Inspectre flipped it down and started scanning the hallway with it, while hurriedly scuttling back from the Bio Marine position. He stayed close to the wall, but didn't press himself directly up against it: for whatever reason, bullets in a firefight seemed to follow the walls. While his legs moved him back, his hands readied his pulse pistol, in the event he would have to use it. The pistol was nowhere near powerful enough to break through heavy marine armor, but Jake didn't intend on shooting them in the chest: the head was a much better place to lodge a bullet.

Richard, now having delt with the horrible alien threat that had taken his attention, took stock of the situtation. A prison gaurd was lying, semi-concious on the remains of what was once part of the air-vents, and a combat droid was treating him. Richard frowned. This was something he wasn't really trained for. Fortunatly, he as distracted by another marine, with armfulls of weapons running down the corrridor. It was Sergeant Warren. Good. He could deal with the gaurd and combat droid. Menwhile, he would find a way into the prison complex and free the rest of the guys.

Richard slung the shotgun over his shoulder, and attempted to clamber up into the broken air-vent and into the In-Between thingys and headed towards the prison complex.
