The choice between visiting a room full of people jumping around arms flailing and a nice dinner date with a couple of communism and a neofascist is a difficult one indeed.

The reasons for GD being inactive are many, although it's largely due to the fact that most of us have known eachother for many years. This marginalises the traditional message board staples such as "God LOL" "Filesharing is wrong!" and the like. Simultaneously, many of us have other means of communication between eachother, which leads to the more minor "current affairs" type discussions ("What do you think of this piece of media?" being a good example) being held in other media, which decreases the apparant board activity significantly, while still letting the "regulars" keep in active communication. There is also some hypercriticality over certain kinds of thread content, leading to many of the people who only really inhabited the football threads jumping ship.
It is not down to people calling terrible threads terrible threads. If you must insist on posting nonsense, do have the common decency to have a thicker skin to go along with it.

Would the title of this thread indicate that answers are sought?

While I agree todays threads are terrible there is a belief that new posters shouldn't go near this forum through some odd type of fear. This means old members leave and noone replaces them, therefore the forum community numbers reduce and that with your other reasons means less threads of any type of quality, bad or good, become less frequent.
Not saying there is a solution to this or it is wrong, just calling it as I see it.

Since when is the general discussion of the english language nonsense?
I was merely pointing out, whilst staying on topic, that your lack of ability to add to a thread in a positive manner may have a slight impact on the lack of actual discussions taking place. My skin is plenty thick.
If you have nothing positive to contribute to the General Discussion, why bother?

By positive you mean constructive critism right? pos repping everyone who posts here is not the answer.

It is not, but this isn't it. If I posted a thread called "Lets list some gerunds!" then I'd fully expect it to crash and burn in the same way. There are, after all, two ways this thread could have gone: the first is that people would go along with the supposed premise, and therefore post cliche and irrelevencies, the second is that people would disagree with something someone posted and they would argue that they can't argue back because "it's rhetorical!".
Alas, this thread has both. A failure all round.

I am entirely capable of adding to threats in a positive manner. However, I will only do so in threads where there are actually discussions going on. A discussion is not, as you seem to believe, a clamour of non-interacting voices spewing gibberish, which is where many internet forums fall down.

Possibly the only good rhetorical question in the thread, although only when you take the irony of its originator into account.

It hurts peoples pride to be excluded from anything, moreso if it is their fault. Much better to blame the internet demons.

Re: Rhetorical questions
To be honest if this is the kind of shit we have to put up with in order to "keep the forum active", then I'd rather it went back to being mostly inactive. At least then you'd be fairly sure that the threads you did see weren't overly shit.
GD has probably died, really. We've got #forums and PB, both of which can do whatever we used to do here.

It is entirely possible to have an interesting discussion using nothing but rhetorical questions.
From what i can see, GD fell down and died several years ago.

I've had entire conversations based around card names from collectable card games. That doesn't mean that this kind of behaviour should be encouraged, especially given the limitations of any such restriction of form must be associated with a high level of familiarity with the other persons in the conversation, because a high degree of subtlety must be employed.
This seems unlikely to be the case for a person such as yourself.

Whilst people are still reading it, and posting on it, it is not dead. A whimper appears to be approaching, but stranger things have happened.

Can we ban him to:
A) make sure he never comes back
and
B) to test your 'won't be missed' hypothesis
?

Re: Rhetorical questions
In the beginning there was a GD and lo that it was full of crap. Those valiant warriors of posting who knew logic and thought fought hard day and night to keep at bay the forces of evil. Yea and they wore-eth many skins.
The wackos and the fanatics were driven back in the battle of evolution. The mindless and the stupid were dealt a deathly blow over abortion. Those who knew not humour and yet claimed to had their disguise and shit comics rent down and sundered.
Until it came to be that a perfect GD existed. Having defeated all that had assailed it. Yet in this time there arose a greater darkness. The insipid lies of those ghosts of failure who still remained.
And thus the greatest lie began. That GD now thriving; was judged dead.
The insidious power held by those bitter at their own defeat knew no bounds and it ate at the minds of the victors until the paradise they had toiled to build gave them no rest or succor.
The greatest test now lay before GD - realising that it is not dead.
