While we've lost 2 excellent players in Todorov (albeit on Loan) and Priske, we've got in some very good players also.
Campbell thus far has been a rock at the back with Linvoy and James has worked wonders for the confidence of our backline. Glen Johnson also adds a lot of class to the back, although Priske will be missed. Could maybe have done with another defender in, but i'm sure we'll live.
Our midfield depth is now one of the best in the league, with Douala, Koroman and Thommo providing width and Douala especially providing pace. Kranjcar giving us a young talent to develop with some much needed creativity and Fernandes who is also a young talent who we can send back if his fitness does return.
Up top Kanu has been a surprise package but the jury is out as to whether he can sustain his form, Andy Cole is a good player if we can keep fit, as his movement off the ball when he's visited is absolutely unreal. Have lost Todorov to wigan on loan and he will be a loss being an intelligent footballer, a club hero and an excellent goal poacher. Douala can also double up as a forward.
I estimate we've spent a touch over £5M, £12M if we do buy Fernandes and I think mister Redknapp can be quietly pleased with himself, despite the downer of sending Toddy out on loan (to gain fitness, game time or to send him out the club, I do not know).
West Ham are obviously out of sight in terms of the quality they have added to their squad, but there are still question marks over their rear guard which they haven't addressed. In terms of building a squad overall, I think we've done a fantastic job.
I'd say we're one of the winners.
Biggest losers: Newcastle.
Have failed to address their defensive problems with sufficient quality, still light up top even with Rossi and Sibierski seems like a pointless signing.
