[footie]Who "won" and who "lost" in the transfer window?

I could not find a complete overview, so teamtalks have to do:

http://www.teamtalk.com/ then "Transfer Centre".

So who won, who "draw" and who lost?

Best sale is Pascal Cygan to Spain for 2mill quid.
Rovers getting 2.5 out of Kuqi was also very well.

Everton has bought a 16 year old goalie from my home town, named Lars Stubhaug. He played for Vard Haugesund.

Re: [footie]Who "won" and who "lost" in the transfer window?

Chelsea lost Gallas and in doing so, defensive security. They are weak at centre-back with Carvalho being exposed repeatedly in the Premiership. Ferreira is competent but hardly outstanding. Jose isn't happy either.

Quote:
Mourinho fury at Gallas departure

Jose Mourinho was reportedly involved in a 'furious' bust-up with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon over William Gallas' move to Arsenal.

Mourinho reportedly felt 'undermined by Kenyon's decision to allow Gallas to join the Gunners against his wishes' and 'was unhappy at the way he believes the French defender bullied Chelsea into letting him go.'

The rows were reputedly so heated that they put 'Mourinho's long-term future at Chelsea in serious doubt.'

Gallas went AWOL during the summer after growing disenchanted with life at Stamford Bridge.

While Kenyon believes that the capture of Cole in return for Gallas plus £5million represents a coup on Chelsea's behalf, Mourinho was palpably less enthused by Gallas' departure on the same day that Robert Huth's move to Middlesbrough was finally sanctioned.

An injury to either John Terry or Ricardo Carvalho would leave the Premiership champions severely stretched in the centre of defence, and Mourinho's mood is unlikely to have been improved by the realisation that not only has Gallas' arrival solved Arsenal's defensive crisis but his proposed partnership with Kolo Toure is set to be one of the most formidable in the league.

According to reports, Mourinho and Kenyon had several rows throughout the day as the midnight transfer deadline loomed on Thursday.

It is also claimed that 'Mourinho did not want Huth to be sold before Cole was signed, and the pair also clashed over the proposed sale of Wayne Bridge to Newcastle. Bridge believed Chelsea had agreed to sell him after talks with Kenyon, but Mourinho wanted to keep him as cover for Cole.'

19/06/06 Vincent Pericard Stoke Free

While we've lost 2 excellent players in Todorov (albeit on Loan) and Priske, we've got in some very good players also.

Campbell thus far has been a rock at the back with Linvoy and James has worked wonders for the confidence of our backline. Glen Johnson also adds a lot of class to the back, although Priske will be missed. Could maybe have done with another defender in, but i'm sure we'll live.

Our midfield depth is now one of the best in the league, with Douala, Koroman and Thommo providing width and Douala especially providing pace. Kranjcar giving us a young talent to develop with some much needed creativity and Fernandes who is also a young talent who we can send back if his fitness does return.

Up top Kanu has been a surprise package but the jury is out as to whether he can sustain his form, Andy Cole is a good player if we can keep fit, as his movement off the ball when he's visited is absolutely unreal. Have lost Todorov to wigan on loan and he will be a loss being an intelligent footballer, a club hero and an excellent goal poacher. Douala can also double up as a forward.

I estimate we've spent a touch over £5M, £12M if we do buy Fernandes and I think mister Redknapp can be quietly pleased with himself, despite the downer of sending Toddy out on loan (to gain fitness, game time or to send him out the club, I do not know).

West Ham are obviously out of sight in terms of the quality they have added to their squad, but there are still question marks over their rear guard which they haven't addressed. In terms of building a squad overall, I think we've done a fantastic job.

I'd say we're one of the winners.

Biggest losers: Newcastle.

Have failed to address their defensive problems with sufficient quality, still light up top even with Rossi and Sibierski seems like a pointless signing.

Re: [footie]Who "won" and who "lost" in the transfer window?

Especially seeing as he was out of contract a month ago. We resigned him, and discovered he was still pish - then received a transfer fee for him. They could have gotten him for £0 this time a month ago.

The best part is it was sunderland we got him from in the first place - and they released him and we DID get him on a free lollers.

Its hard to say who won or lost. I dont know where to put arsenal on the scale, for example, as that could really go either way.

West Ham definitely won.

The promoted teams lost because they didnt sign anyone.

Liverpool won.

Newcastle probably lost.

Portsmouth won.

Tottenham? you'd think they won, but theyve started shit.

Biggest losers were easily Wigan though

Newcastle got Duff and Martins for a total 15mill quid. Thats a bargain. Offloading Faye and Boumsong for money is good.

So not bad for the transfer window, but they need more and better defensive players to get a squad who can compete with the top.

Re: [footie]Who "won" and who "lost" in the transfer window?

newcastle desperately need 3 high-calibre centrebacks. once they have that, they'll have an unquestionable top 6 team. martins, rossi and ameobi is enough depth up front: when they're all fit it's 4-4-2, and certainly martins/ameobi could cope on their own up front. given n'zogbia, duff and luque can all play upfront, the suggestion of attacking frailty is nonsense. in midfield they are excellent, at fullback they're good enough, and given is superb.

they really ****ing need centrebacks though

Re: [footie]Who "won" and who "lost" in the transfer window?

Woodgate is the only quality centreback I've seen at the club in 27 years of watching them. Is always been the case. I disagree about the full backs however. Fat Carr makes Cliff Lazarenko look nippy and Celestine Babayaro is just on a gravy chain.

Hopefully we'll get some decent CB's in Jan but I think our season will be over then (there's always the cup).

i would have to say that man utd have lost, paying over the odds for carrick and not getting the other players they needed in the window really means that they have to hope to sustain form and look forward to the next window

they dont look like losers to me.

Phang, you forget that Newcastle have an inability to play as a cohesive unit. They are 11 players rather than 1 team. They also play some of the most horrible football to watch in the league

Re: [footie]Who "won" and who "lost" in the transfer window?

At right back last season he was superb as part of an attacking side. He's solid defensively and really helps with getting the team forward. We'll have him back if you like

As a central defender he is crap, because his heading is not too hot.
