Re: Somethingawful vs ebaumsworld?
If I invented something really cool and funky.
But I just let lots of people use it and not get any profit from it in any shape or form.
I didn't patent it or copyright it in any way.
Then someone else effectively made their own exact copy, and slapped their label on it.
Then they sold it for a nice profit.
And I could still obviously have it myself.
Then:
a) it isn't STOLEN
b) i'm stupid for not making a profit myself from it
Yes, ebaum is a naughty boy and evil for all this.
But he doesn't care.
If Lowtax cares so much, then I'm sure he can get some form of copyright on the content from his site (yahwe would know more than me, obviously) to prevent future stuff being stolen, on behalf of his goons.

Re: Somethingawful vs ebaumsworld?
Did they lawfully purchase the copy of photoshop they used to photoshop? What exactly is the legal standpoint on claiming ownership of an item you made using illegal means?
edit
just to reiterate im not claiming ebaum is 'nice' or 'good' but the holier than thou attitude of SA is retarted (and i want credit for not using that ****ing icon instead of writing the word)

Re: Somethingawful vs ebaumsworld?
in my experience people generally get pissed off when someone steals their idea/work/product and then makes large sums from it. others find this reaction shocking or unwarranted, apparently.

I'd be rather annoyed at myself for not doing something about it and I probably would like the people whose opinions I cared about to realise it was my work but I wouldn't think I have a right to sue the guy or anything. That said I probably would because frankly I'd like to be rich too.

I've always thought there was a market for one-liners which contain the word faggot more than eight times to be honest.
PS Does someone who uses SA have a link to SA users discussing this? I'd be interested to read it if they do.

Maybe we should get a graphical weekly contest.
There seems to be a niche in the market, now SA won't bother!
Hey, how about a "who can steal the best image from elsewhere and doctor it using photoshop to make it "funny" contest? Or even just a "who can steal the best photoshopped stuff from elsewhere"?!

Bonus points if you physically steal their hard-drive.

they didn't do it for profit. they did it because they wanted to be appreciated by their peers.
if someone takes your work and makes a profit it's only right (yes there are no laws, it's just common decency) to give some of that back to you.
but that isn't even the main issue. the main issue is that credit was not given where credit was due.
you realise that you're killing the souls of those you teach?

Thats just a very unfriendly interpretion of his answer. I also disagree with him and it doesnt have to do with races or gender or any of the other "not to be discriminated against" attributes. Could be an interesting discussion to go into the pro and cons of anti-discrimination law and its results for society but that would once again go totally off-topic in this beautiful thread

No, I think it's disgusting to do that. I just don't necessarily think laws are the correct response.
