I don't really see the distinction you're making. You're saying you can learn about human behaviour by watching human interaction in a very specific context. Couldn't that also be said about football, and certainly football fans?

There's also more frequent demonstrations of Newtonian physics in football.

Just for reference, I couldnt give a monkeys spunk about Big Brother, even if they had a full on 12 person gangbang which ended in multiple deaths.
Its shit.

Re: Big Brother
First impressions: Shebaz - dont like him, though I dont know if he's being overly queeny because thats how he is, or because he's trying to stand out for strategic purposes. I would like Dawn to win at the moment, as I agree with her pessimistic analysis of human nature in her video cut scene before her entrance to the house

Well it's nice to hear that I don't have to think about it sociologically now that I know that it is "obviously not the case". Phew.
To be honest, it isn't really. Experimentally speaking it's poor even by sociologys methodological standards. That doesn't mean that what does happen, and the way that people react to each other and the environment around them cannot be pertinent and interesting. People on this show have far more compelling goals than players in a football match. Beyond "I want to win I don't want to be evicted" there are all sorts of things which - while they can be connected - can also be separate. Living in an environment 24 hours a day makes peoples basic needs come up too. They want to interact, to make friends, to attract sexual partners, to acquire all the basic things that humans want, food, water etc. Beyond this they have the over-arching themes of the game, co-operation, building a power base to avoid nomination, remaining uncontroversial for the early game, attempting to be nice all the time so that they can't even be edited to look bad. Even though experimentally it's virtually worthless doesn't mean that it can't spark debates and interest in the minds of its viewers. As it certainly does in mine and I assume most people who watch it, on some level.
As a game it's far deeper and more complex than football, with far more possibilities. I haven't even mentioned the tasks that the producers set and the random events that are thrown in for entertainment value (which is all that they are, a good thing from the point of view of the observer). Also, how can you possibly have anything against a game which has a girl crying because she can't get her bottled water. I mean, really. Come on.
My final point is that we don't go into football threads and cause a fuss, so stop being a child.
(I apologise for the length of this, but not having an internet connection makes me milk it when I do!)

Re: Big Brother
Any housemate who says they are leaving should be given a hand in leaving the next time they sit in the diary room ejector seat. So far Nikki and Shebaz would be gone and 2 new housemates should replace them.

Look I have cancer I'm allowed to try to bring football threads off-topic innit
Big Brother was hilariously entertaining with Nikki. What a spoilt brat.
Sezer continues to make me detest him - nice trimmed chest hair, you loser!
Lisa and Pete are my favourites currently.

Re: Big Brother
Richard seems to be very conniving and sly to me. As soon as there's any kind of disruption or argument in the house, he has made himself enter in the middle (in fact throwing his arms round girls, because apparently that's "ok" because he's gay). This will eventually get him seen as a "peacekeeper" by others in the house, which is a very strong position to hold.
However, he seems to be the one who fuels most of the arguments, yet never starts them himself. He'll bitch and bitch about Shebaz to somebody, then watch as they fly off the handle at him. And that show last night about sending him to Coventry was just pure bullying. He made a big show about it.
Maybe Shebaz brings it on himself (well, he does). But to openly bully him like that is something I detest. Pete wasn't impressed, and neither am I.
This little "relationship square" that's going on is slightly amusing too (and irritating). The two guys, Mikey and Sezer, seem to be swapping between the two girls, Grace and Imogen. Yet both girls seem interested in Mikey, and tolerate Sezer's groping and cuddling. I can't see why. Sezer's a cock who just gropes girls and makes crap jokes while walking around half naked because he loves himself. Mikey doesn't say a word, and seems to rely on his supposed good looks to get himself by. I've only seen him say three sentences since he entered. What's the attraction to both of them? Says a lot about today's society

Re: Big Brother
There'll be drunken fumbling. The girls are just playing with the guys, but wait till they want some ****ing penis.
Lisa is still cool as ****. Im going to put some money on her to win, i reckon.
Richard is indeed a bully, he also looks like Kane from WWE His "lets everyone say bye bye to shebaz" wasnt cool.
I watched some of it last night, and shebaz was saying "well i hope you enjoy doing yoga videos all your life good luck with that" while at the same time whining for attention off Grace. "im mathematically challenged... and it was like the sahara desert in that diary room... and none of you realised how hard it was for me.." - wait, take a step back then you tit if you know your shit at it. He was flat out shouting swearing and insulting grace, who was just looking away and shaking her head (she restrained herself very well).
Especially seeing as he lives in glasgow, and is part of 2 "repressed" communities, the homosexual and pakistani communities, i dont know how he's gone through his life without a reality check. People like Nikki - who is pretty, and a woman - therefore can go through life without having to ever attain a sense of accountability - i understand why they have the blinkers on. But to be unaware what a ****ing asshole you are at 38 is sheer ignorance and arrogance.

Re: Big Brother
Pete whipped out his wang and the girls were impressed!
Shabaz is a dick, if I was in the house id prolly of stabbed him with a fork. Lisa should of just pounded on his paki puff ass. Dawn's B.O made me lol. Sezar is a sleazy guy but saying this i think that is what Imogen likes about it, and i predict those two will hook up, since mikey is quite a boring **** and so is george, but thats what grace seems to go for.
Aye Richard is a bit of a bully but he is playing his 'role' well and getting on good terms with everyone prancing round like a fairy.
What will become of the food i cant wait till tonight

it is quite interesting to see people like this who so often recieve negative feedback in social contexts and certainly aknowledge it (his "i'm me and you must accept this"etc is, despite it's pathetic delivery, a well rehearsed piece.), manage to maintain a level of delusion that allows him to think appearing on national television is a good idea.
his snivelling in bed the other day (or possibly last night, i forget), when someone brought him food, saying "i don't want to eat until everyone's happy" while crying, with the most desperate face i've ever seen really got to me.
it was disgusting. you know how we all despise weakness in people, like fat people, crying babies, timid/scared personalities
well this really hit that nerve. i wanted to cave his ****ing head in. he just looked so desperate, so utterly vulnerable, so pathetic.
seeing it in a child is bad enough, but a 40 year old man.... it feels like betrayal. it was embarrassing and i resented him for it.
they all do too, and we should all burn in hell for it
|
Oh, she's certainly not altruistic, but if you came up to me, got in my face and said "yeah i hope you enjoy academia for the rest of your life and you never acheive anything, good luck to you right back to me and my issues" and then try and make me understand that you were too hot sitting down in a room when you ****ed up the shopping list for everyone because you were too pig headed to let everyone help... i think i could be forgiven for rolling my eyes at a camera.
I think a lot of the problem is he's not making it easy for any of them. They have all tried pretty ****ing hard to put up with a social ****ing retard. He's in your face, he grabs your hands and flirts with you - you dont have to be a phobe to want to look anywhere else but in his face when he strokes your hand and says "big mothers going to look after you, sweetie". Even people like sezer, who is a dick, have tried hard, even though Shebaz is determined to isolate and ostricise himself from everyone. He needs to be the center of attention, and because he cant achieve that in a good way, hes achieving it in a bad way.
Siding with Nikki/Sezer isnt a nice idea, as they're all shit human beings. However, Shebaz is so unreptentingly shit, and refuses to accept help of any kind, so he deserves everything he gets, and more.

Re: Big Brother
I liked it last night when Sezar got his big brotherhood cap. Looking at the faces of the existing members you could just see them thinking "Oh..... great ".
As for Shibang, I'm glad he's in there. He'd probably annoy the hell out of me if I had to live with him 24 hours a day but seeing him on TV is great

I have to say I actually can't believe how awful Shebaz is :\ He is no sense of logic, seems totally devoid of intelligence and is utterly immature. I would probably beat him to a pulp with a hammer if I had to live in such close proximity to him.
I don't really have strong opinions on any of the others yet.

That phrase made me laugh out loud, I don't think he has the right accent to say things like "top spec bitch". That whole conversation was great actually, theres something about a posh accent and a common vocabulary that doesn't really fit.

That's because your brain can't handle the way we can speak and somehow not sound like a gutter-rat (bear with me here). It's just insane jealousy built up through centuries of oppression, much as you would dislike the look of someone better looking than you (male) or the smell of someone who didn't have atrocious body odour (bear with me). It's utterly disgraceful and you and all other disgustingly negative fiends like you will eventually devolve back into the pond scum from whence you came. Unless you can accept that people from London aren't actually evil and just because we're better than you doesn't mean we are rude enough to point it out (hah you bore with me and I just kept insulting you lol).

Re: Big Brother
there isnt really an "other group" though.
The two new housemates are terrible, by a long way the worst in the house. Grace is actually remarkably mature i think, i quite like her. Lisa's still where its at though
