No, even if they are bought, he won't have the same funds as Roman.

if they do get bought, and if the buyer is serious about his commitment - an abramovich rather than a Vlad or Glazer - it's feasible. They won't do Chelsea well, because they have such a stupendous amount of money (the biggest of the Russian oligarchs brings really quite a lot of money with them) that nobody can do that well. But they have the support, and if they get the money and the time, they could reestablish themselves.

Re: [FOOTBALL] Question
west ham are a bargain buy because of their situation. They are cheap, have debts so any reasonable offer would be accepted, have a proven record for home grown talent (Defoe, Cole, Lampard, Ferdinand) and their stadium has not long undergone major upgrades including a very nice hotel/conference center built into the stadium.

That kind of talent is once or twice a decade stuff for an entire division, let alone an individual team.

Re: [FOOTBALL] Question
west ham are the only london team who pay attention to youngsters from london. as such they have the best youth team setup in england because they have the biggest talent pool.
similarly hibs have the best youth setup in scotland, because we take in edinburgh youth, whereas the best of the rest (celtic) have barely half a dozen homegrown prospects despite being in a bigger city because they pay little attention to the youth team.
edit: i dont mean celtic are worse than hibs as a team (although one could argue that right now), i mean they have a worse youth setup.

what? Marshall / Kennedy / McManus / Beattie / McGeady / Maloney / Wallace didnt come from nowhere. Many more have come through and would be good enough to play for you or other small teams, but arent good enough to play for us (re smith, burchill, fotheringham, crainey). Lets not forget we lost Liam Miller too (who despite being shite for man utd, was good for us). To say we dont concentrate on youth teams considering how well our youth teams do in the youth leagues is downright ludicrous.

riordan oconnor whittaker scott brown thompson have three years between them, all are scotland caps at full or U21, and those in the latter bracket - the last three - have to be hot favourites for the first team in a couple of years. Regardless of his Rooney temperament the season before last, Scott Brown is one of the best players in Scotland or from Scotland right now, and if hibs had had a youth academy for him to train in, scott brown would be playing for chelsea by 23. deff, i know you disliked him because he was pretty violent in 03/04 (on which note, legitimately defend the behaviour of Hartson and Lennon since the year dot. go on, try) but he's been a much cleaner player since he got back from injury, and a much better player. He's fast, accurate, skillful, and he gets stuck into tackles. Now that he's bulked up, he can actually keep the ball when some big bastard tries to throw him off it (sup neil) now too.

Re: [FOOTBALL] Question
Riordans had a couple of good seasons and has proved his worth. If we had _really_ wanted him hed be at celtic by now then
What have whittaker and thompson done that say, robson or mcnamee havent? nothing really. hibs have had a decent season and youve gone over the top. Scott brown is a wank, and shite, end of. O Connor has now got 2 scotland goals, and over a few years has been in and out of the squad. Hes good, but hes nowhere near as good as you seem to think
It all boils down to the fact that like youve said before, its near impossible for smaller clubs to hang on to their big players. If celtic had wanted any of the above, they would have had them.

yes. but what im saying is that hibs have the best youth setup because we're totally commited to kids from the area rather than dragging people from any old place: so they're well-adjusted to the conditions, know people in the system, and beget more youth types coming. also, there's lots of them.
celtic make a reasonable effort with glasgow youth, but the only other scottish teams that really try with their juniors are too small to get far with it.
OConnor IS good. He's held out of the scotland lineup because whatever you tell yourself, the SFA is pretty much a glasgow circlejerk. Any player that the OF might want is kept out of the squad to keep their value down unless they're TOO good or TOO loyal for it to be worth the bother. Deeks/GOC/hartley fall into the latter category, whereas people like Gordon and Elvis aren't targets.
And Scott Brown is marvellous, whatever you think. He's good at everything a winger should be good at, and since he learned restraint he's the complete package.

What does it matter whether its kids from glasgow or kids from kelso or kids from thurso? Should the biggest club in scotland ignore potential scottish talent because Caley thistle or Berwick Rangers might be their local team? We train the cream of the crop.
As for the glasgow circlejerk comment, im not sure how you can justify that. After marshall kept out Barcelona at the nou camp, craig gordon played in goals. Every single game Steven "he looks like a warlord so he must be good" Pressley and Andy "oh god why" Webster start in defence. ****ing caldwell playing at all anywhere is a complete disgrace. How many caps has Shaun Maloney got for scotland? Last i checked it was zero, and as a Scotland fan, not a celtic fan, im much more optimistic about his future than any hibs player.

what? i'm saying most teams have a less cohesive and less effective youth policy than us.
i'm not defining 'signing 19 year olds' as a youth policy, fyi

much as i hate to admit it, webster and hartley do a job, and while they shouldnt represent a centre-back pairing at international level, they're both good enough to fill one slot (along side dailly, ideally).
and maloney is good, not great. how you can pick him over brown or riordan or oconnor and say you're being impartial i cant understand
