Well given all government spending could be classified as waste from one perspective, some types of waste are better than others (or rather, meet different ends).

That argument could be used to support an increase in pointless defence spending and countless other 'government projects'. Im not really into any of the sports that occur during the olympics (if i need to run i go to the gym), i probably won't work on any of the facilities development all i can expect for certain is some entertainment. The transport improvements look nice, but id rather there be infrastructure development for its own good than justifiying it by proxy.
edit/
I suppose an argument can be made for making multinational companies pay millions of pounds in advertising to help off set the cost

If this means that hordes of black women from abroad turn up in Camberwell then I'm all for it.

I like the Olympics and am happy that London got the nod over Paris. But then I like the British and have disliked the French for a long time. Still have nightmares about watching DeGaul opening the '68 Winter Olympics.

Sorry, did you think to yourself: "I feel really good and I'm looking for some jingoistic, up-beat conforming opinions where everyone is happy, I'll go to GD where no-one ever complain or does their best to piss on the parade."
All this woo hoo, is all very well and good, but I reserve the right not to just cheer randomly every time the Government says it has done something.

Yes, and I reserve the right to question those who piss on the parade.

From a skyscraper?
That'd be quite amusing actually.
I can just see the headlines now...

Re: Olympic Games 2012
Needless to say but the French were suitibly unimpressed. I was watching the news earlier and this guy was trying to interview a couple of French people and all these twats were booing, hissing, and generally disrupting the interview (one guy let off a fire cracker next to the cameraand the interviewer shat himself which was quite amusing).
Some people have no class or grace.

Ken Livingstone was ecstatic about the London2012 victory.
Something to laugh at.

Why? Because now we both don't like the French?
If this was the case, in 1939 we'd have held a huge ****-off party in the streets of London and posted an invite to Hitler saying
"THANKS FOR GIVING THOSE FROGGIE HIPPIES A GOOD KICKING FRITZ, FANCY A PINT?"

In communist Russia the state volunteers you to help out during the Olympics.
I really don't know why I posted that.

Re: Olympic Games 2012
I agree, it was only power surges when I first posted that.

Contrary to popular belief, I'd imagine the French are actually capable of empathy. Maybe.

well as I said, when I first posted it, it was reported as nothing more than "a power surge" and "an injured person" it's a little more serious now, so any humour in my original post has now gone. as it currently stands, I don't think the French would be gloating about this, they will probably be feeling very sorry for the people of London.
