Re: Ooh Ooh, BBC see the future
Of course, Opera didn't pay a big marketing company to advertise Opera all across the Internet.
And Firefox 1.0 doesn't offer any spectacular new changes over the Release Candidate which has been out for a while, as far as I know - although I have to admit not having read any changelogs.

Re: Ooh Ooh, BBC see the future
Forgive me Leshy for I have sinned.
Today I downloaded the new Firefox 1.0.
(However, when I realised I was looking for plugins to make it work like Opera, I thought "hang on a minute, why not just continue using Opera, so I did)
(However v2, this new Opera 7.60 preview 2, what's happened to the minimise/close window buttons (at the top right, not in the tabs which I don't mind btw), and the "Windows" menu option where the "Closed Pages" list used to be?)
EDIT - I found the closed pages; they're in the trashcan in the corner (that I previously thought was for blocked pop-ups only)

Fans of the software have banded together to raise cash to pay for an advert in the New York Times announcing that version 1.0 of the browser is available.
Neither did Firefox. It's just that there are more people who think it's better, so raised some cash to advertise it. It's not Opera's fault that its fans are all thrifty misers.

Opera won't catch on because at the end of the day, it isn't free unless you want to surrender valuable screen real estate to a banner advert.

At that time yes, however I now use Firefox on Windows. I have been using Firefox for around a year and before that I used Mozilla and Netscape with the occasional Internet Explorer on my linux box.

I've never stole any software.
Well, once I took a floppy disk home from a warehouse clearance I was doing, but I don't think that counts.

Re: Ooh Ooh, BBC see the future
It would be good if it did exactly what opera does, worked in the same way and stayed free (although i doubt anyone in the world has ever payed for opera).

Re: Ooh Ooh, BBC see the future
I don't want anything that Opera does other than 'browse the web', and I could never manage to get its UI quite as minimal as my IE install. Getting into tabbed browsing now though, which I had previously complained about.
