In terms of achieving anything of substance, I wouldn't hold your breath.
It'll reduce airfares and probably make it easier to trade for large well-established companies in both regions, but these hopes of it bringing the two areas together with the aim of helping the environment (and climate change) is a bit optimistic.
However, these things take time and maybe this is the first step to centralising trade throughout our two continents.
