Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
*It was the twilight of the Federation. The Swarm, a collection of aliens from outside the known galaxy, had invaded. Their technology, based on organics rivaled the best that the Federation had to offer. Their numbers, are pratically unlimited. For several years, the Federation fought a long battle, making several victories, yet for every victory, they suffered equally painful defeats.*
*In desperation, the mothership program was activated. 5 Million people, selected based on their intelligence, usefulness, and other attributes were launched in cold sleep towards a sector of space hostile to the Swarm. This sector of space was a nebula that housed within it a planetary system. The nebula generated radiations lethal to the Swarm, yet as of this time unduplicatable to the Federation.*
*Launched with a escort fleet consisting of the best ships still in service, the mission met right off the bat with several attacks. After one attack on Wayland station, the motherships were scattered. No word was heard from them by the rest of the Federation.*
- 58 Years Ago -
*Within the system known as "Hope Cluster", 5 large ships slowely entered it. Their hulls pitted and dented, scortched and in some cases, breached, they told a tale of a long journey. As they entered the system, programs long dormant activated, systems came online that had been disabled for many years. Atmosphere flooded the insides of the ships, and the cyrogenic pods activated their waking cycles as the motherships entered orbits of the 2 inhabitable planets in the system. Launching self-assembly buildings, the motherships quickly constructed several light shipyards and mining stations as they slowely entered a low orbit to land. Upon landing, the inhabitants of the cryogenic pods were awaken to a new world.*
- Now -
*It has been 58 years since the motherships landed onto the two planets, Hope III and Hope IV. Amazingly their cargo survived, form both human to artifical. However, the question that still dominates many are "What happened during the 69 years?" The motherships computer cores had been damaged in the sectors that would tell what happened, and there was no record of what happened to the escort fleet. The only survivor was a artifical being from the Red Sky of Dawn that seemed to hold the ships "essance" within it, which was equally unable to tell what happened.*
*During the 58 years, the colonists have been busy. Besides reproducing and expanding the colonies, they have been researching new technologies and ships, and constructing them. Hope cluster itself contained several asteroid fields and gas giants that were a rich source of resources.*
*Now, it is time to reach out. As the colonies now have the ability to defend themselves, they are constructing ships to reach out, to see what the state of affairs of the galaxy is, and to take the war back to the swarm.*
You are one of the captains of the fleets to be sent out.
You are in charge of constructing the ships that you will have under your command, to take on dangerous missions, to kill lots of bad guys, to save the planet, galaxy, universe, hot memberoftheoppositespecies and make hot love to said memberoftheoppositespecies.
Now: You ship
http://www.rit.edu/~spc1422/Onslaught.htm
That link above will take you to the spreadsheets that contain all the ship parts you can purchase.
Starting Credits: 100,000
Now, a brief overview of the ship construction process.
First of all, you select a Hull.
Next, engines. Your ship has space for both a Sublight and FTL engine. Additional engines take up 1 Additional Slot Each.
The hull armor, shields, weapons, fighters and support personal all required that you have enough money for them, AND enough slots of that type for them.
Additional systems can only be put into additional slots. You again must have enough money and slots to fit the system.
Additional slots can also be used to house addition weapons, engines, and shields.
Once you have created your ship, post it here.
Now: For the format of the posts.
Posts will be graded on both quality and creativity. They will be graded on a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being the best post out there. This will affect your score, which affects your rank.
Also, while there are stats, they are NOT all-powerful. If you come up with a creative way that involves no weapons fire whatsoever, and it's done in a good post, guess what, it happened.
More information will be posted right before the thread will start. Any questions, ask. If you wish to sign up, just post your ship below. Starting time for the thread itself is about 1 week or whenever more than 6 people sign up.
Once you have constructed a ship, you all are onboard the Starbase "Rebirth". Feel free to chat with each other, make alliances before the missions are announced.

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
heiro, hard to play? That thing can run through an omegacruiser and not even get its hull scratched, 400k shield points is nuts !!
You can almost survive a direct hit from Hewitt's MAC cannons.
and Hewitt, your amounts of firepower are equally nuts
oh well, guess i'll have to get me a couple of gunboats with a MAC launcher and mkII cloak to sneak up on things later, for now the MKIs on my current ships will have to do

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
Update:
Sometime today I will start loading people who have signed up into a spreadsheet that I will post online.
And for the record, after you start missions, you can sell equipment for 1/2 cost unless it is... destroyed/damaged, at which point it's only salvage.

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
Flapjack. I think you'll find that with another 90k credits, i can get upto 1.2 million shield points.
And my number of additional slots is quite high, so i can jam them full of Antimatter assault cannons. ( at 50k per hit \o/)
Tis all good i think
and nice one hewett. tis hugely overgunned

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
Heiro, i know what you could do with that brick of totally unmaneurable shields, however could it ever bring those guns to bear on a small, maneuverable target??
In fact i think your ship could be overrun by attacking with lots of small ships, which limits your offensive power greatly

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
I think you'll find that I'm the mad one around here.
4 of the following, Phoenix Firehelm, Phoenix Dawn, Phoenix Talon, Phoenix Rebirth
Strike Corvette Hull
Magnetic Acceleration Cannon X3
Advance Explorer Shields X2
Warp Drive
Cold Fusion Drive
Standard Deuterium Hull
What's that? 900K damage every 2 posts? I think so.

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
Yeah, it's getting pretty obvious you all are COMPENSATING for something that you feel needs to be IMPROVED!!!
And since this is getting so out of hand, MAC cannons only get 1 shot before they need a reload :P
Either you take that option, or give me 24 hours to change some stats and you redesign ships.
Oh yeah, some missions, energy weapons will not work, MAC's won't work, MAC's be worse than useless, etc etc.

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
another redesign, that means i'll have to build another 2 ships, again.
could you be as nice as to give the strike corvette a couple of troop slots and remove a shuttle slot while you're at it?

could you be as nice as to give the strike corvette a couple of troop slots and remove a shuttle slot while you're at it?

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
I've still got my original design that I was going to use right up until I saw that other people were being idiots and thought I'd show just how stupid the stats could get. who wants to use 10+ MACs anyway, lovely against a single large target like, a planet maybe, but anything much smaller and you'll have targets you can't even aim at. Actually that e-penis analogy was close, the ones shown above were far too big to be usable.
Explorer Hull (25000)
+10000 Hull Strength
+40 Weapon Slots
+5 Hull Slots
+15 Shield Slots
+12 Fighter Slots
+8 Shuttle Slots
+10 Troop Slots

Slipstream Drive (10000)
Advance Explorer Shields (1500)
-1 Shield Slots

-10 Shield Slots

-10 Additional Slots
Bio-neural Gel Packs (10000)
-5 Additional Slots

Well, that means im safe from being utterly killed by huge numbers of macs.
Also, Macs. Bakan really hates macs.
what did you expect people!

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
Okay
Good news: Stats remaining intact
Bad News: The more powerful the weapon, less acurate it is. Thus the MAC will make nice big explosions..... against nice big ships. Against small ships and fighters, the following will happen:
Oh shit, we missed
Oh shit, they got through our shields
Oh shit, we are dead.
Thus I suggest ship changes :P

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
I don't think 'big weapons = mass innaccuracy' is a good ground rule to go buy; there'd always be exceptions. If we're all looking for MAC cannon setbacks then how about the large amounts of space the rounds would take up?

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
No Dachi, I somewhat agree.... I'll put it this way, depends on post quality if your rounds hit or not.
everyone like
Good!

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
I don't think everything should depend on post quality either. If it all did then why have stats at all? I mean you've obviously put a lot of effort into making a diverse range of stat options, so they should figure into the equation somewhere, right?

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
I think he means that if you come up with a stupendous post he'll let you get away with using weapons for things they aren't designed for and you'll do more damage with them if you use them as they are supposed to be used, i.e. a mac is after all a plasma coated cannon ball at high velocity and so really isn't going to hit a single fighter that easily, if there was a cloud of fighters and you shot one into it, you'd have a fair chance of hitting something. All a matter of how you use something really. Another thing to think about with MACs at least is that the first time we saw one fired it was from a rather large space station, and that shuddered rather dramatically, you fire off several at once and you'll likely tear the ship apart.

*flapjack hopes the changes won't be that big, so he can just use his current design*
hmm, how about readding the PBCs?

Well DUH
It's quite obvious (to me anyway) that the hulking space-borne version of an artillery piece wouldn't be able to swing around nimbly with hairline procision.
Also using a MAC Cannon to shoot down strikecraft makes about as much sense as trying to kill a fly with a bazooka.
*Stops Fluffie from picking up a bazooka *
I used 6 MAC's on my ship because I had an anti-capital role in mind when I designed her. As such I'll be keeping my design as it is despite the promise of new additions to the parts list.
You just make sure that plenty of said type of ships wander into my path...

Re: Onslaught: Tides of Revenge
Okay people.
If you check the webpage now, you will notice something new on the hulls page.
The new colums are how much power is generated for each drive.
Yes, besides slots, you have to make sure you have enough POWER to run all systems.
What happens is this. If you have enough power, you can run your systems. If not, you have to shut down systems, for example, if you have a overpowered shields and weapons, but not enough power, you would have to lower shields to fire.
Thus, this means that engines are more important.
Additional engines will take up the following additional slots:
Fusion Drives - 10
Cold Fusion Drive - 20
Ion Drive - 30
Impuse Drive - 40
Gravimetrix Drive - 50
Warp Drive - 10
Trans-Warp Drive - 25
Supspace Drive - 50
Hyperdrive - 75
Slipstream Drive - 100
Also, as a reward for assistance, the following people get a FREE engine of choice.
RichardP
Fluffie
Questions, feel free to ask.
