[Censorship] Oh internet brothers! hear me in my hour of need

So anyhoo this actually came about because i went on google news and found the article and wasn't overly impressed by this shit

Quote:
This Article Is Unavailable

On advice of legal counsel, this article is unavailable to readers of nytimes.com in Britain. This arises from the requirement in British law that prohibits publication of prejudicial information about the defendants prior to trial.
wtf?!? i was heard to mutter

further investigation revealed this

More on here

The thing is my hommies around the world, the mail has apparently 'run the story' but im not buying the mail because that would be helping out evil people. It wasn't the government that censored the paper, the ****ers did it themselves. In a show of internet hilarity and because proxys don't seem to be working if anyone with an IP that resolves outside the UK could click on the 'more on here' link above, scroll down, go to the stories page and paste here id be much obliged and would feel part of the univeral brotherhood of man.

They are apparently under the impression they would be breaking the law if they did, so their position hardly seems unreasonable*.

Re: [Censorship] Oh internet brothers! hear me in my hour of need

I think its something to do with John Reid asking newspapers not to print articles that may effect the outcome of future trials.

This is still however not against the law, its just something John Reid would prefer to happen.

The 'details' of whatever article they wrote has already been used in the british press and nooone as complained, like the link stated the mail already ran stories with all that information in and they didn't have their bollocks shot off. Im not sure what else to call their position other than unreasonable when the home secretary et al revealed quite significant details about the plot, the british press revealed details of the plot and 'senior government officials' are happy to talk to the press about the plot. Oh and the government hasn't done or said anything. But yeah quite clearly when they're acting and interpreting the law on their own, in a different country against the entire grain of the british press and establishment they aren't being unreasonable.

If i asked the forum to link me to some max hardcore* streaming videos they'd be breaking the law. If i asked the forum users to link me to pictures of fluffy kittens they might recoil and say no its illegal but it wouldn't be illegal because theres lots of pictures of fluffy kittens in britain and their interpretation of the law is pants.

when did you turned into such a don't-rock-the-government-pussy?

*most worthless law ever, obviously they'll now be headlines OMG POSSESSION OF VIOLENT PORN HAVING SEX WITH ANIMALS as there is of kiddy pics but since it legal in the rest of the world and most importantly america there isn't anything they can do about it

When did I say that?

I just don't really get your point. Their legal position may be well off (I'm not really sure I haven't looked into it) but assuming it is then that means they have a number of possible motivations for their behaviour. The main negative ones I can think of are :
- None really, they're probably just stupidly over-reacting.
- They genuinely hate freedom, especially when British people have it and want us to suffer
- This is all a PR stunt (this has got quite a lot of coverage throughout the internet after all)

The first seems most likely, and that doesn't really seem too bad (or surprising). Anyway, this is the NYT, it's not like their articles aren't going to be peddling the same old lies. Why would you want to read that? Because they said you couldn't?

If the law is real then it sounds pretty reasonable, I'm not sure what the fuss is.

The artical while interesting (all three pages of it lol) probably isn't worth making a fuss over.
