On the occasion of my fifteen thousandth post...
...which passed by rather unnoticed by myself recently I'd like to reflect on those posts. Including posts made before the db was wiped I'm on about 30k posts, give or take a couple of thousand. The average length of each of these posts I'd reckon to be at least 40 words. This means that since I first joined these forums five years ago I've written over one million words. I'm very sad that these days the forums appear to be in decline, there are threads on the front page that are a week old, but I'm still glad I chose to spend all that time here. Some of you are really wonderful people who I'm delighted to say I've learnt a lot from and who helped me expand my mind in ways I probably otherwise would not have chosen. Well done everyone.

Well done. When I first joined GD a little over a year ago, your wit was one of the first things which I noticed. I wish that you had come to California this year instead of last year. I would have done everything I could to have attempted to meet you while you were in San Francisco. I would have even been willing to stand drinks.
Also, I don't really think the forums are in decline. I think it is just a summer lull.

The forums have "always" been in decline. Congratulations on 15,000 reasons not to sleep with you <3

Two seperate things, I think. There is always a summer lull, but then slightly fewer posters come back, or the ones that do come back slightly less active than before. Or something like that.
We can of course blame reputation, or individual posters, or too many serious posts, too many angry post(er)s and so on, but it's a gradual thing. People get older, they get girlfriends, they get wives and children and they get World of Warcraft. All of these things mean we get a slightly less active posting community.
But JBG is alright by me so who cares. It'd be better if he wasn't such a capitalist pig ****er, but no-one's perfect.

Go Jonny, he's our man, if he can't do it, it doesn't need doing.

congrats JBG
you should be known as 'Mr. PA Forums'
(in much the same way as that German bloke was known as 'Mr.World Cup' right up to the point where he shot himself)

Re: On the occasion of my fifteen thousandth post...
It's in london and yahwe, ably assisted by dda's capitalist nature, is hosting it.
As I'm a nihilist I'll be expressing my support by not turning up.
