Alien Crossfire is great (assuming that's what you're referring to), although the Pirates are overpowered.

Re: The games you play at the moment
i prefer the normal one... i have planetary pack, but i tend to enjoy it more without.
not entirely sure why though =D doesnt really matter though.
and hive seem to be overpowered in the original, not that much bother to me though.

It is 2nd only to Civ 2 in the genre, and that is because Civ 2 is slightly prettier (less red anyway) and more elegant.

I like some of the automation/etc which AC had, so it's the best playing experience for me.

Re: The games you play at the moment
i could never really get into civ2... despite not having a massive interest in sci fi and being a history student :/
hmm, never mind
i remembered why i didnt like planetary pack now
the aliens REALLY pissed me off (too warlike, i prefer to build) and i didnt really think the other factions were that great either, couldnt put my finger on exactly why though. The new technologies were alright, but still, i think possibly i just loved the original too much. There are clearer ideologies in the factions, that could be what i loved so much about it anyway, its nice to play as morgan and try to get as much money as possible, or yang and just be a bastard to everyone while having loads and loads of big bases churning out crap things.
Im gonna try a game as miriam soon, that 25% attack bonus does mean its going to be a certain "kind" of game though. =D And as im working through one as yang now, im probably going to be morgan or zhakarov next, nice change of pace.

Re: The games you play at the moment
I have no money, no PC, and not much time, so I don't have time for much of this 'gaming'.
The Mega Drive version of Syndicate was weaker than The PC, but it was in many ways a lot more challenging.

There's something distinctly less than wholesome about Civ 3. I really can't place my finger on it, but it just doesn't grab me like Civ 2 did. (Still does, actually.)

Guardians tend to deal with them well, although remember to have an Overlord and antiair about for the following Wraith retal.

Re: The games you play at the moment
Civ 3 is more based on luck then Civ 2 (resources/luxary goods) and the other civs in civ3 really want to grab your throat when you are standing in their way.
What's really a big improvement is that you have those territory borders now which makes it impossible for annoying oponents to base cities in the middle of your territory. Still I play civ2 at the moment just because of the simple fact you can play an entire game in one day (singleplayer).

Re: The games you play at the moment
guardians tend to be the last thing you get... siege tanks can be in your base before you are half way to getting guardians...
and guardians are only good vs terran if they dont know you have them... terran have the best anti air in the game hands down... goliaths early-middle and if they REALLY want to **** you up valkyries kill things at about 500000 mph.
mutalisks are really good though =D cheap fast and not too far up the tech tree. Then again that means we then have the problem of the anti air again.

Brood War is a dire addon, it removes so many tactics.
Oh, and burrowed Hydralisks tend to deal with seige tanks in short order.

Shelling stuff with Battleships never ceases to please me in Civ 3. Fat lot of good it does, mind. 80% of the ****ing time you don't damage anything, even if you're aiming at a bloody city. (How is this possible?!?)

Re: The games you play at the moment
To deal with siege tanx, either mass with zerglings or hydralisks (move them close, then attack), or if he's got enough troops to subdue them, you should have either mutalisks in equal numbers, or queens with spawn broodlings. Later in the game you can use dark swarm, guardians, overlord drops, mass queens or a combination.

I never make a lot of use of navy myself, only for defensive purposes (I prefer using misiles against those annoying battleships that keeps roaming your coasts trying to terraform your landscape). Lots of bombers can be very effective though to weaken enemy lines, same goes for artillery.
Battleships are not really ment to be used as city bombing tools, they are good to defend your carriers and transport ships though.

Just normal bombers/artillery, and loads of them, I mean like 20/30 at least, if you want defending city units to be destroyed. I never saw a point in destroying city improvements.

been playing Warcraft 3 (with addon) and galactic civilizations (a bit).
I uninstalled my civ games on the grounds that I need to actually do my degree this year.
My preferred version of AC is alien crossfire, but with the original factions.
