Superman Trailer
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/supermanreturns.html
Looks dumb. :/
Bad casting. No-name too skinny uncharismatic actor in a dated outfit.
From the trailer it seems they changed the story too: 'I've sent you my only son to help them (earth).'
Just looks dumb. The city architecture looks like it's from the 1939 World Fair. OH YEAH because that's not been overdone - The Rocketeer, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, etc.......
Just looks dumb.
Full Disclosure: I'm no Superman fan, and he's not a man at all, he's an extraterrestrial alien. We don't need aliens to save us from ourselves, thank you very much.
EDIT:
Quote:
"They can be a good people, kael, if they only wish to be. They only need a light to show the way. For this reason alone I send them you, my only son"
|
Yeah looks like they threw out the whole death of Krypton for a Christ metaphor because they'll know it will have better sales. Christians are so credulous, it's their one defining characteristic. I guess it's good for all those not satisfied by Aslan the Lion dying for us too. With some many rescue-fantasies in the works, maybe we'll all be lucky and one of them will come true and rescue these Christians already so the rest of us don't have to put up with them anymore or their stupid movies.

It looks retarded.
I hate superman though, utterly hate the character. Worst character ever!
I shall be avoiding this like the ****ing plague.

Re: Superman Trailer
I always disliked the Superman character (his powers seemed a little too good, especially when one of his major enemies is a normal human being pretty much, and I never really got the folksy morality he'd abide by).
However, I've recently enjoyed both the Justice League (animated TV series) and Smallville (I've only seen the last two series however) which obviously both feature Superman. I was kind of hoping they'd continue with the same cast as the TV series (although Lois Lane isn't really fit enough). I thought the movie was going to continue on from the series in terms of continuity though.
Justice League works because Superman is merely one of many, and there is good interplay between him and Batman / the others. There's also a couple of times where Superman get's to be slightly 'dark' (or at least embittered) - such as the Darkside plot arcs, or the alternate dimension where the Justice League rule over the Earth as fascist dictators.

Re: Superman Trailer
I liked the old school Superman movies.
However I dislike this one.
But the comics (U.S. versions), frankly, were very good and enjoyable to read.

Re: Superman Trailer
The character is just so dated in general. I'm not a fan of DC comics. Their whole thing about creating fake major cities in the US and trying to make that work with real cities is pretty silly - Metropolis (Located around Boston, Superman) - Gotham (Somewhere by New York City, Batman) - Coast City (By Los Angelos, Green Latern).
I only read Green Latern, and just because it's really the only worthwhile new wave sci-fi comic out there until Marvel introduces the Silver Surfer to the ultimate universe in his own comic (if ever - might show up with Galaktakus's appearance this year).

terri hatcher is ugly as sin.
superman can be as good or as bad as his writers make him (speaking in terms of entertainment value, not of morality), which tends to lean worse than better. OMNIPOTENT BEING VS. MUGGER IN DARK ALLEY!! WHO WILL WIN?

The naive idealism of Superman really fits hand in hand with communism, I'm sure he'd abandon his 'don't kill' ethic in a hurry 'for the greater good.'

Are you saying that Marvel comics are better (DareDevil & Spider-Man's cities are real)?

I prefer the Ultimate Marvel universe to DC, yes, but I even prefer Marvel to DC (even though Mavel can't keep their artist to stick to comic book deadlines). DareDevil is from Hell's Kitchen, NYC, a very real place, and Spider-Man lives in New York City. DC has invented major cities that its characters live in and we as readers are left with the hopeless task of reconciling the many geographical and other factual inconsistencies that jump out when those cities are somehow supposed to exist in the US as we know it. It has bothered me since I was a little child, I absolutely hate the fact they use fake cities. Real cities have complex, nuanced cultural history, demographics that provide rich context to a story, made up cities just end up turning out be simplistic statements of what comic book writers think of urban life - the noir of Gotham, the ultra modernistic sci-fi of Coast City , or the tie-and-hat wearing white collar citizens of Metropolis. None of these fake cities create the sort of living authentic background that provide color and breadth to a story.

That's a legacy name that no longer applies.
