Also, new London Olymic slogans:
LONDON: You can run, but you can't park-and-ride.
LONDON: Light the fire within, flee the fire without.

Re: London Bombing jokes.
I don't know why i'm even writing this, because i know none of the people it's aimed at will understand. But i'll try anyway.
This thread isn't about mocking people's deaths, and injuries.
It's about the fact that if we stop people from laughing, from having humour, then the terrorists have already won.
it's not as if the thread isn't appropriately titled! what are people going to expect to find ?
Yes, today is a terrible thing, but if we allow it to turn our lives into ones where we only mourn, only express sadness, then the people who do such act's will do them more, knowing that they can disrupt our lives so much.
People aren't posting here to offend, or to be contraversial, they are doing it because if we cannot laugh, what is there left ?

I think its stupid how people try to pretend they are making jokes and laughing because otherwise the "terrorists will have won", when the real reason is probably because they are selfish cun.ts who dont really care about other people dying unless they happen to know them.

I've read this a couple of time now, and it still doesn't make any sense.
So, you quote Phil^, who wants the thread closed, but you appear to be complaining about the actual thread, but what exactly does
'lets keep it a dumb now'
mean?
Huh?

Re: London Bombing jokes.
**** off
Humour is one of the best ways of dealing with this sort of nonsense.
Britain has been making jokes about terrorist bombings since the first bombs, in music hall comedy and acts like flanders and swann in 1950s
grow up for ****s sake

These bombings are like London buses anyway.
You wait ages for one to arrive, then four come along at once.

Re: London Bombing jokes.
Who cares? If we were telling these jokes at a public press conference, I could understand, but this is on a board on an online forum which hardly anyone visits. What difference does it makes, really?
There'll be people telling jokes about it up and down the land in pubs for the next six months. Grow up and don't be so naive ffs.

If one of my family members died, the last place I would be is on an internet forum.
And humour is one of the best things to deal with tradegy and grief anyway.

Not.... sure... I agree with this tbh... I can appreciate the need for being light-hearted about the whole thing... but it's similar to the trade towers in the US... This maybe one thread to not add too much to =/

Re: London Bombing jokes.
President George W. Bush
I spent some time recently with the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and had an opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to the people of London, people who lost lives. I appreciate Prime Minister Blair's steadfast determination and his strength. He's on his way now to London here from the G8 to speak directly to the people of London. He'll carry a message of solidarity with him.
This morning I have been in contact with our Homeland Security folks. I instructed them to be in touch with local and state officials about the facts of what took place here and in London, and to be extra vigilant, as our folks start heading to work.
The contrast between what we've seen on the TV screens here, what's taken place in London and what's taking place here is incredibly vivid to me. On the one hand, we have people here who are working to alleviate poverty, to help rid the world of the pandemic of AIDS, working on ways to have a clean environment. And on the other hand, you've got people killing innocent people. And the contract couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and those who kill -- those who have got such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks.
The war on terror goes on. I was most impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve. And that is we will not yield to these people, will not yield to the terrorists. We will find them, we will bring them to justice, and at the same time, we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate.
Thank you very much.
I thought some of you might appreciate this one.

That's more sad than funny really. It's so hipocritical it's sickening. Blair did a much better job at not sounding hipocritical. Don't American script writers know how to be subtle?

what the **** is your point? he didnt get injured so you can't even be forgiven for being emotive and talking shite.

I'd like to know who added that to my reputation. Stop being a child and just admit who you are.
To reply to your secret post - my point is I was so scared that my brother was hurt or worse, I feel for the people involved in this, so I wouldn't joke about it. It's not talking shite - it's talking sense. Now be brave and admit who you are

yeah, that was me.
the problem is thus: if you were scared, fine, but that does not make you the moral authority on this matter. nobody will have a go at you because you were worried about your brother, but if people want to cope with humour it isn't your ****ing place to tell them not to.

tbh, i wouldnt expect anyone who lost family or friends today to be on the internet reading a topic titled 'london bombing jokes' unless they were the type of person who tries to get offended at every possible opportunity.

i dont even understand what that means. but i will say that if you get offended by jokes about the london bombing its probably not a good idea to open a topic titled: 'London Bombing jokes'. that is all.

Re: London Bombing jokes.
even with the twin towers, it was left a few days before the jokes about it were made.
jokes WILL be made about it,.... so either dont read this thread, or join in, u knew what it was when you read the topic, so if it offends you can avoid it.
Still,.. a couple of days before these come out would be better,.. ah well

Re: London Bombing jokes.
My brother lives and works in London and I live in the US. I'm English dontchaknow.
I tried for about an hour before I finally got through to him and he told me he didn't go into town, but that he wouldn't have been that far away from Edgeware Road if he had been. I told him he was a lucky bastard and that he owed me a beer for the phone call. He laughed.
However, since I'm not twelve years old and emotionally retarded, I didn't immediately start wailing and crying and believing my brother was dead when he didn't answer, since the chances were about 33 in 8 million or so that he was one of the unlucky ones.
Stop dribbling over it and go buy yourself some more butter for comfort.

hey I'd just like to say: if you're new to GD because of this thread, please go away. Go and moan about your shit browser game, or wank off over roleplaying.

Re: London Bombing jokes.
Why do people only turn up to moan about the conduct of people they don't know and have had no previous interest in?
I hate that.
