Help me make my mind up
going to the movies tonight with a couple of mates.
I call the shots on what film we'll be watching.
Trouble is, I'm not sure what to pick.
Guy X
or
Nightwatch
or
Domino (this purely for the American surrounding mixed with British rebel/sarcasm... and Keira Knightley)
I'm inclined towards the first two if I have to be honest.
So decide for me GD.

Re: Help me make my mind up
I'd say Guy X because it seems like it will be funny and there's a nicer older lady in the film to admire.

Lord of War if you haven't seen it dude. Of those you mention I've heard some good things about Nightwatch and it might be interesting to see a different take on the rather overdone vampire/werewolf/secret underworld theme.

I dont understand why people bother going to the cinema unless theres something in particular that they really want to see.

If you bring in a few beers with you everything becomes a bit more watchable.

You can tell you were drunk while watching Lord of War
As for nightwatch, its hardly a differnt take as from where I was sitting it was came across as a Russian trying to do a Hollywood movie. I would have perfered to sit through a movie that was a Russian take on the genre rather than a cheap imiatation of what has been seen before.
As for actual question, Domino is pretty bad. So much so even Kiera doesnt save it, nightwatch isnt anything new so it would have to be Guy X.

Re: Help me make my mind up
Domino is suppose to be awful. Keira Knightly is the only thing that makes it almost, but not quite, watchable.

Wait, are you saying that it was a poor movie? What was it lacking? Hot women? The soviet union? Excessive amounts of drug and alcohol abuse leading to hilarious consequences? The benefits of being an arms runner? The main actor showing a great grasp of lateral thinking?

bit of a dumb post. A better reply would have been You can tell you weren't drunk while watching lord of war, because lets face it when irish stops drinking, things no longer become reality for him

Re: Help me make my mind up
You know what?
We didn't end up going to the movies.
Why?
One of my mates had a row with his girl so he had to sort that out.
I ended up choosing Nightwatch but we decided to leave it for another day (the guy didn't want to miss it).

It didnt quite fall into the poor group, saved from that by Cage imho who I always think comes of well in most of his movies. Its supposed to be a satirical look at the arms trade and when your making such movies you really have to hit the mark else it becomes a bit of a farce. Just look at the script the director produced for The Trumen Show or Get Shorty, two movies that take a satirical look at TV and Movie industries and while being funny and overplay certain things always have you thinking that theres some truth in it and as such is thought provoking. When satire misses its mark you get this or Be Cool movies which try and say something serious behind the laughs but which fail to deliver it due the poor direction or script. The script certainly needed alot more work not only on the satirical aspects but also the charachters that were extreamly undeerwritten, especially Ethen Hawkes charachter
Its not bad, but its not good either. At best its watchable and they really missed a trick as they could have made a good movie that took a satirical look at the arms trade and made people as it was it seemed like it was played too much for laughs and would have worked alot better if they are gone all out comedy rather than trying to make it something that the script wouldnt allow

Re: Help me make my mind up
Nah dude it's only funny when the plot is supposedly about something serious and the way the characters react is really off-key.

Skiddy managed to come out with such lines as "I went to school once." and "I was in London today." which totally killed conversation, the bastard.
After he left I got drunk, met lots of fit girls, went home alone and rang both my current girlfriend and my ex-girlfriend so i could have a conversation
When I got home I attempted to talk french with my housemate, telling him how hard it is having a girlfriend etc etc before posting on here...
Now i should go to bed as I have to get up at 6:30 for work...
