Uh..i think i have a little problem...

Okay, follow the recent threads about modding your desktop, i decided to start doing it myself.
And I did, no problem. (Only thing is that it eats a quite big part off my ram, but hey, fashion costs!)

Then, i decided to do some other stuff, to make it even cooler, so i added a new login page(whooho) and a new bootpage(?) (the loading page?).

Anyways, now that i came back, my machine has started making strange sounds. Its kinda metallick. Also, it is everything is goes much much slower..(Too much slower)
I did backup the file that is the bootpage (the original, ntoskrnl.exe ) should i change it back? Can it affect my computer like that, or is just my computer on crack?

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, when im first into these halls, are there any other ways to tweak your desktop even more? (I am using StyleXp, a calendar, YzDock and i had the coolmon, but i deleted it, since i did not think i needed that) (Im not good enough to begin whit the things JJ talked about lastly in his thread)

Why do you need to modify/backup the kernel when changing your shell?

With XP, the bootscreen is in the kernel.
Thus if you want to change the bootscreen, you have to change the kernel.

There should not be any mechanical failure from adding programs.

Haven't you read the latest XP license? PC manufacturers must now include a device that will drive a nail through the hard drive when you attempt to tamper with your OS.

Surely it would be simpler just to provide IBM harddrives?
