Yo dante
You forgot to mention the brilliant 'choice' you're given prior to the dna/fingerprint taking; mine went like this
'sign here'
'what, erm, why?!?' *furiously scanning yellow form requiring multiple signatures*
'Its a consent form innit, says you consented to have your samples taken'
'...right, and if i refuse?'
'then we take them by force'
'do you even know the definition of consent?!' <-- ok i didn't say that because a degree of stockholm syndrome sets in and only the hardened criminals (whom i admired whilst in custody) are truly shit to the fuzz.
Never mind though, the worst thats happened is you've effectively narked on any blood relatives and future children

Re: Yo dante
I forget where I was reading it, but apparently the new dna database will somehow link your dna with your relatives. Therefore, should you spawn new life they will be forever marked with your sexual deviance on the national dna database.

Re: Yo dante
So what happens if you don't consent? Do they put a little note on your file saying 'cocky little shit. Purposely uncooperative. All relatives should be beated into submission before entry to the station is allowed.'?
P.S. Did anyone else think this threa was going to be about dantes trousers again?

On the subject of police brutality, did I miss the May Day demonstrations? I really wanted to go this year, I've never been before.

Re: Yo dante
I didn't sign any form about giving DNA, they just took it (or at least I don't remember). The only thing I signed was a listing of my possessions, the police statement thingie (which I pointed out was incorrect in a couple of places, but broadly in line with the fact - and it was debatable whether my hair was "greasy" or not) and then something at the end to say I understood some other shit about if I'm found guilty this could be taken into account, blah, blah. Their electronic signature thing didn't really work so none of the resultant things look like my signature anyway.
My DNA is actually on some database anyway, I consented a couple of years ago for it to be included when I did my anthrax trial. I'm not sure if that was anonymised data oly though. I did have to sign about 5 forms for that, but obviously that was in a hospital.
On a personal level, I'm not overly bothered about my records being wherever, I just object it being compulsory on a social level.
edit : All my blood relatives are either dead, shit, or under indictment for various crimes anyway.

Have I missed something here? Did Dante and Milo get nicked recently?

You may find Dante's signature helpful.

Re: Yo dante
Is it true that if you don't agree to have your dna taken, when they must take it by force it is by means of an anal swab on a broomstick?

Re: Yo dante
Being arrested around mayday is a part of life, it seems. (28. April) However I got the joy of not going to a cell this year, instead I sat on the ground for two hours (in strips) then another three in a bus (still with strips), after being teargassed a gazillion times. It's nice to share one toilet with about a hundred people after being locked in a pinch for a few hours. They arrested 260ish people and managed to press charges against a whooping 8, with no charges being so serious as to warrant a "proper" arrest. Oh and they raided a social center and found boxes of stones, some firecrackers and a few sticks. In media words that's "dangerous throwing weapons, explosives that can be made into shrapnel grenades and nasty hand-to-hand weapons".
But seriously, DNA? That sucks. I once sat four hours waiting for a judge to approve of them taking my fingerprints, but they got it in the end. In the report I was classified as being uncooperative
