Bored at work
Well I am really bored with the internet.
There doesn't seem to be much on it anymore, however in the hope of reinstalling my faith in the internet I was hoping that GD could recommend some sites to entertain me while I am at work.
Please note my workplace does have websense ;/

Re: Bored at work
i go between GD, PB, talkforest, myspace, bbc, guardian, hotmail and repeat until they're all read.
Then I branch out and read some blogs, or maybe something I'm interested in that day like cricinfo or some socialist writings or something.
Generally I end up playing games in the PB arcade though...

I know this will sound crazy but have you tried doing some work to relieve the boredom?

What would your boss do if they found you doing something else in the meantime i.e. reading a book or watching a DVD?
Are you supposed to look for something to do?

Re: Bored at work
My boss frequently finds me not doing work.
The fact is that the work I'm meant to be doing (usually) gets done.
At the moment I've just started a new placement and I found out what I'm vaguely meant to be doing last week. I can't get started until my new boss emails the IT department to authorise my use of the software. Oh and emails the other directors to tell them that I'm going to be asking them some questions.
So what I've actually been doing yesterday and today is handing over the work to the person who's taking over my old placement. That's done and I now have nothing to get on with really.

Re: Bored at work
I 'might' get an important email or phonecall.
Also, sitting at my desk typing on the Internet and having piles of paper around me makes it look like I'm working away.

I have not had any work to do since 1st August. I'm currently between assignments and only go into the office for about 3 hours a week.
I still get paid though. Also, there is no pressure on me to find a new assignment for the next 45 days. Only after 3 months of doing nothing will anybody start to notice.
I love working for a large PLC.

I`ve done hardly any work since April/May this year. Just the odd task here and there.
I love it when the students are away

NB3 was employed to make it look like his boss had something to do. I think he sat online all day and had to backup something at the end of the day and be around till 6pm. It was pretty shit when the job ended

Well I have been applying for better jobs for at lest 1 1/2 years now but with no success. And my current job is in a dam factory just shifting stuff around. How blargin boring is that, and it’s for 10 and a half hours a day.

This guy is funny, although you have to question how he remembers all this with a BAC of 0.15?

Re: Bored at work
If you really want to sell your sole, don't just go into sales, go into Telemarketing. I did that for several months last year to have a job, luckily I hardly ever sold anything and never actually pushed a product, so I'm pretty sure my sole is still partially intact.

It is the same Shadow - my old account was deleted (with my approval) due to the size of the TFD and TC threads and the complications in removing these. (Long story - you would have had to be there to understand. These threads where the largest ever to be created on the PA forums and took up a lot of database space.)
Yes I am Dutch - but I have an English girlfriend (Zyle) - whom I met in PA roughly 6-7 years ago. We have had a serious relationship for over 5 years. (We hit it off irl on 28-12-2001 if you want to know..)
About a year ago, I emigrated to the UK and started working for the company I work for right now. NB3 whom I met about a year ago as well (living in the same city and all...) is now going to work for the same company.
Hope that sheds some light on things

Why? He says he's been checked for STIs many times.
Also who cares if it's true or not? Does a story have to be true to make it great?

Re: Bored at work
Usually comedians take a bit of artisic license and exaggerate / change the story.
However, his site seems to be "this is what i do all the time", so it'd be a bit of a let down if it was all/mainly lies.
Assuming you like and support the site in the first place.

If we found out (for example) that Dace's stories were exaggerated or madeup, would it make them less funny?

If we knew the stories weren't true then i don't think they would be funny.
The fact that a story isn't true but noone knows this, doesn't make it not funny.
Also, there's a big difference between exagerated and made up.

In certain cases, yes. I'm not completely disagreeing with your point - I have said many times that I didn't 100% believe everything Vermillion posted here - but that didn't stop him being quite a good poster.
However, certain stories have additional impact because they are true. If I posted a story of how I got (say) stabbed in four seperate instances in one week then the sheer randomness of the event would be what made it interesting (and my compelling prose of course ). If however you found out I made it all up then yeah, it does lose something. If nothing else if you're making shit up then why not just have me stabbed four hundred times in a week? Why not just have a story where I have to sword fight ten thousand ninjas to get home from the pub one day and then I save the Earth from an alien invasion? And so on.
And what Stew said. Everyone is granted artistic licence when anecdote telling. Exaggerations are fine - I expect "five drinks" to become "eight drinks" or "moderately attractive barmaid" to become "Mischa Barton" in any competently told story. But if you're inventing things entirely then just go write a screenplay already.
