Atlas Shrugged, perhaps starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. How can it go wrong!

it's distinctly possible that i would rather cut off my ears with a rusty knife and then gouge out my eyes with a screwdriver than go anywhere near what is surely going to be the single biggest pile of steaming shit ever produced

Re: This has to be the best film ever!
I presume that Leonard Peikoff/the ARI would have some sort of final veto / or at least significant creative input into this (unless they don't own the rights), so I'm interested how it would turn out. I guess the best we can hope for is some kind of abonimation.

Wouldn't that be inherent in any film based on an Ayn Rand book?

This will be terrible. Brad Pitt is an awesome foil but can't hold a lead role especially well. Contrast Troy (as the lead character) with Fight Club, Ocean's Eleven and his episode of Friends, all of which were superb.
Angelina Jolie has great tits and moves them about well, but I doubt she can pull off a serious role such as this one

Re: This has to be the best film ever!
I think there is too much emphasis on the Pitt and Jolie elements in this thread.
It's a film of "atlas shrugged" people!
Where's nod?

Is he that character who get's the huge speech on how objectivism is brilliant, then decides it isn't a few years later and then kills himself?

The story revolves around the economic collapse of the U.S. sometime in the future and espouses her individualistic philosophy of objectivism.
Don't you know anything?!

Re: This has to be the best film ever!
I dont think its particularly suited for the cinema screen, theres far too much material to fit into 2 hours without making it stupid. I heard someone throwing around the idea of a miniseries, which sounds a vaguely better idea, but still slightly shit. Personally if I was in charge of the project I'd go for something "based on AS" where I maybe took one subplot from the novel and tried to develop/extend it in a way which was true to the book, while also trying to incorporate the main themes ("stories from the world of AS", I suppose). It would take a talented director though, and you'd never get permission from the ARI.
The casting choice sounds terrible (Pitt and Jolie, christ), but at least it's an independent studio making it rather than a Hollywood one.
