pranks needed for workmates PC
right, in retalliation for various pranks played upon me in hte past few weeks, i need to retaliate against some of my workmates, and i was just wondering if anyone knew any good pranks i could play with their PC's, as i will have unobstructed access to them for 2 hours tonight.
anyone any ideas, i mean, i am already goijng to change their backrounds to highly embarassing photos etc, but i was wondering if anyone could think of anything better?
the one thing to bear in mind is: it has to be reversible, as i could get into seriouse trouble if we have to phone the IT dept. for something as asinine as that :/

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
if your PC is next to his maybe you can swap monitor cables around or something so that when he types it comes up on your screen right yeah and then you type and it will come up on his screen so he thinks his computer is alive or something.

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
Installing a VNC server would be a "better" way to do the swapping monitor-cables trick...

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
Or install VNC server without the tray-icon, and connect to their comps and start doing dodgy stuff like spastically open random windows.
Or fiddle in the MS-word autofill and let it replace `an` with `no` and `no` with `an`

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
Don't du all this nasty stuff... It's like a pain in the arse to reverse it, and you notice at once that something is wrong. I mean, you even know WHAT's wrong (playing around with cables etc...)
KK: Make a screenshot of the desktop. Use the [PRINT]-Key (top right of your keyboard) to do so. Open up MS Paint (Start -> Run -> enter "mspaint", Return // Accesories -> Paint). Insert the screenshot. Save as bitmap-file. Now change the background to this bitmap file (maybe name it "windowsbg.bmp" or something non suspicious). Then you mark all his desktop icons, and move them out of the screen.
Or, even better, move them to a backup folder somewhere (they are just shortcuts anyway). You can use the explorer to do that.
The effect will be that his desktop icons don't work anymore. It's quite good actually. For extra fun, you could minimize / disable the taskbar to zero, and move it to the upper edge of the screen.
Then the task bar doesn't work anymore as well... The only problem will be that the system time is stuck, but hey.
This is worth a try! (and a laugh)

It would (shockingly) get rid of Windows Explorer. ie, you'd lose the taskbar, the desktop and any open directories.

this does really depend on how much he knows about computers.
changing someone's default font color to white can be entertaining.

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
three simple ones that have worked well for me in the past - reversing the mouse buttons (control panel:mouse properties)
- replacing the desktop picture with a snapshot of the desktop, then hiding the icons
- adding auto-correct entries to Microsoft Word, so that when they type (eg their name, the company etc) it is auto-replaced by whatever you chose...
EDIT I see JetLinus already suggested my second one

This is no good if your runing XP as in XP explorer auto restarts as soon as it down,
The Desktop one is good and have seen it done :P was amusing - also to get rid of the desktop icons just right click and hide them.
also you could change whee sortcuts point to, ie have te MS word shortcut opening excel that should confuse them or a while,

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
Reversing the mouse buttons really is simplest and best. No-one guesses immediately, it's very frustrating for them, and when they do realise, it's still a pain for them to click correctly through the options to change it back. you know how it is, you start reading a thread, you see a couple of dull posts so your finger speeds up on the mouse wheel, you see irrelevance and long dull signatures so you speed up some more, you're reading every 10th line and it all seems to be the same old same old, and then you find yourself at the quick reply box believing nothing obvious has been said.

The Warrior's bland acronym, MMI, obscures the true horror of this monstrosity. Its inventors promise a new era of genius, but meanwhile unscrupulous power brokers use its forcible installation to violate the sanctity of unwilling human minds. They are creating their own private army of demons.

I made a program that runs in the background that at random intervals of every few seconds the mouse pointer turns into the middle finger and back really quick.

No , just use the US Default. It only changes 6 or 7 keys, and theyll go mental trying to work out why some of the keys work but not others.
Itll probably take them ages to notice as well.

Re: pranks needed for workmates PC
Go here and download the software. This allows you to change macros, you can make it do things like go to specific website or close out the window every time they do somrthing like hit the spacebar. You can set it to run in the background too so it will be harder for them to find the problem.
Also mess with the sound settings so it plays or some long annoying annoying song/sound for every single task.

Clearly the simplest prank you can do is set a screen saver that just says "It's Now Safe To Switch Off Your Computer" in orange writing

Hold on, that's not so much a prank as being inept with opening foodstuffs.
