[football] Carrick does his ankle in
ho ho ho ho ho ho ho
I shouldn't laugh at these sort of things, but when £14m is paid up front for a midfielder of Carrick's stature, you have to giggle at least a little.

although it may just be a sprain.

Re: [football] Carrick does his ankle in
Fergie hasn't signed the player he thinks he has. Whether he can turn Carrick into the player he actually needs is something we'll have to wait and see.
We'll get at least £16.6million from the deal and probably the whole £18.6

No you won't, as a chunk of that money is going to West Ham.

Got a source on that? I've heard both ways from news outlets (most notable the bbc) that there either is a sell-on clause on Carrick, or that there isn't one on Carrick but there is one on Defoe.

Re: [football] Carrick does his ankle in
Right, with the Hammers being in the "Championship", when they sold him for what 2mil-ish? They surely would of had a sell on clause, appearance bonuses and probably appearances for internationals. They needed the money back then.

If they needed the money, then they're more likely to lack those clauses. Carrick was hardly a hot property at the time, so if they needed cash vitally they'd hardly be in a strong bargaining position.

Re: [football] Carrick does his ankle in
Erm from what i remember seeing on sky sports news the reason Tottenham held out for so long on getting more than 12million was because they lost a chunk of it to West Ham. Im pretty confident this is true anyway...

Re: [football] Carrick does his ankle in
There's definitely no sell on clause (from people within the clubs at both Spurs and West Ham).
You're right, the press were reporting that there was and some said it was as high as 25% but I don't know where they imagined that figure from.
Jakiri's right (as usual ), they needed the money and one of his contract extensions at West Ham removed any sell on clause.
We get 14.6 mil "up front", 2 mil based on Utds performance (I think CL qualification this year but would have to check) and 2 mil if/when Carrick signs a new contract for Utd.
Basically we're guanateed £16.6 million and I'd imagine we'd get the full £18.6.
