38:2
Funny galaxy
What happened there?
What happens if I attack 38:2:1?
Can you give my galaxy some extra planets with the same co-ords as me too?

Re: 38:2
for some strange reason the game plonked a few planets onto the same coordinate. spinners fixed the immediate problem and is working on the code for the reason why it happened currently.

Re: 38:2
its probably a new one.
the interim solution will mean that duplicate coordinates cannot exist for more than 1 tick. the problem will not exist next round at all.

Re: 38:2
Planets with duplicate coordinates have been popping up since R1.
The problem eventually gets fixed, but then they throw-out/lose the code and rewrite it, and the problem comes back. :/

Re: 38:2

There are other ways it could happen. New players joining the game, exiles, database corruption, etc. Of course, it shouldn't ever happen regardless, but saying it won't happen seems a bit... myopic.

Re: 38:2
new players join existing gals, the exile code is not the cause of this problem and there is no way this coudl occur as a result, database corruption is of course a potential problem but then that could affect anything

Re: 38:2
its related to new account creation - spinner is going to tell me all about it in full later, but he needed sleep last night after he worked it out.

Re: 38:2
Whats wrong with setting a unique key on the x y and z fields?

Re: 38:2
i assume they're more worried about failing to create an account at all, than having a duplicte planet for a tick.
quite what's wrong with counting for matching coords in some form of while loop, however, is beyond me

Re: 38:2
Maybe it breaks shuffle or something. But then again, shuffle has always produced some very exciting results.

Re: 38:2
its a farily standard db locking issue if anyone cares, the solution is to add some locking to a particular function, the problem is that this function is used a lot by lots of other parts of the game to they would also need to be changed to take into account the change, hence its not for midround when we ar ei the middle of next round development. THe interim solution will be fine until the end of the round.
