i know, but as with all betting, it was a gradual, almost unoticable loss, for a big gain at the end!
damn, no wonder people get addicted to gambling!

In ten years Dace will be living alone in a bedsit and suffering from heroin addiction.
Hopefully then he'll realise the folly of gambling.

Re: Excellent News
thats hardly the same as a little smirk when someone looks at the cards, or a twitch, or playing with the chips. Plus you can't mess with their heads by showing a single card when you've got a pocket pair, so they think you were playing a bluff. Poker is better in the real world.

don't overstreach your budget (assumably £5 or so a day), if you win, bank the money, don't keep gambling or you'll loose the lot .

I ****ed up in the $30 game.
I was playing to games (a free roll was the other one) at the same time.
KK dealt to me went to go all in and went all in with Q5off in my "proper" game by mistake
Still managed to wheel and deal my way back into the game.
Also got a 5 min disconnect at the end of the game there so im quite pleased that i actually managed to get anything.
I learned a few new tricks today as well so ITS ALL COOL!!!

Re: Excellent News
The chance element seems very very high. A lot of people who seemed knowledgable said that you couldnt really tell if you were winning unless you averaged your games over a period of at least 1 year. If true, this is a game that involves a LOT of luck. Yes, I'm prepared to believe that there's _some_ skill. But a lot of luck also.

i agree with the average thing however your assumption on how much luck is involved is sooo badly wrong.

all i can say is that there is a chance element in poker
but it is not big enough. i would not let poker be played in any casino i owned, nor would anyone else. its too slow and too difficult to make profit from.

What generally happens with poker in casinos is that the house takes a certain percentage from all pots which are won. Essentially, the players are paying by the hour in order to play against each other.

Hi, i play in tournaments.
This means that i pay to enter a tournament and some of the money goes to the casino as apposed to the tournament.
At most it is 20% (in low cost buy in games).
Generally it's 10% (hence 10 + 1, 30 + 3 etc).
Not much expense if you get top place (eg $2250 in the $33 game etc).

Well yeah, but I think that's more an online thing. I was under the impression that most real-life casino games were non-tournament and used rakes, but then I wouldnt really know having never been in a casino.

There are two different kinds of poker games, tournaments and cash. Tournaments you buy in for a set amount (of which the casino takes a "registration fee") and the game is played until one man is left with all the chips (top <insertnumberdependingonsizeoftournament> get paid). No tournaments in casinos run past 3 in the morning. Casinos don't close before six in the morning. People knocked out in the tournament might play in the cash games (of which the casino takes a rake as nod pointed out) or might play the other games in which the house has a greater edge. As well as this your big winners in either form of poker game aren't exactly adverse to some random gambling with their winnings.
PS Well done dace
