wireless, eh!?
So i am in the process of buying this ipaq 2215 and i was astonished by the wireless acess to the internerd global web, via 802.XXX stuff...

My uni is like a mile away from home, and I was thinking about buying these PCI WIFI cards and then grabbing the wires that connect the card to the card´s antenna and extending it to my roof, using an amplifier and a regular sized antenna so i can acess tha net from inside my class. WOuldnt that be something??

How many of you think that climinbing all the way to the roof of my flat to do this will work?

It all depends if the AP has a range extender on it as well.

It won't matter if you have an amplifier, if the AP signal strength is too low. Sure, you'll amplify the received (low level) signal, but the resulting signal to noise ratio will mean the throughput you get will be mediocre at best.
You'll be using 802.11g, and ranges for that are in the order of a few hundred metres, even with extenders, and once you start going longer distances, you'll be fighting with other signals, who are trying to do exactly the same thing as you are, on the same frequency band.
