Hay Deffeh (football thread)
Uh-oh spaghetii-os. As I write this Elber has just scored after a marginal free-kick. 1-0 to Lyon

Re: Hay Deffeh (football thread)
i'm not surprised, but it makes me sad to see dutch clubs can't compete with foreign clubs -at all.
ofc it's a matter of a budget, we don't have the millions they have in germany/ spain/ england/ italy, but still...
holland used to atleast play a role in european football, now we're on the same level (or lower) as greece, portugal, belgium...

Re: Hay Deffeh (football thread)
No, it wasnt a penalty.
But we were ****ing god awful tonight, lets be honest. Even if that penalty hadnt have been given and wed walked away with a 2-2 and gone through, wed have been very very happy with ourselves. The lack of Agathe and Thompson rendered us useless down the wings. Suttons heading was awful, Millers distribution was diabolical. Varga was below par and that was Baldes worst game in a celtic shirt for a year and a half. And michael gray was SO ****ING SHIT - he got beat inside, outside, skinned, sold, he couldnt put a foot right.
First goal - beautiful free kick, off the bar, camt blame hedman for diving for it - but why oh why was there 3 lyon players to it before there was 1 celtic player? It wasnt even a free kick either, the french were going down faster than shares in leeds united.
Second goal - no way, no way should any international keeper for a decent side let in a goal that slow from that far out - once again hedman has THROWN IT AWAY at the vital moment
Third goal - now i didnt think it even hit off Baldes arm but i was very drunk and im told it did by many people. It Certainly was ball to hand rather than hand to ball - but then again, celtic are the unluckiest club in european competition. But why Bobo, why, why did you give the ref a chance to make that decision? Why did you go in with your arms raised?
We were awful tonight and weve lost 6/6 champions league away games. 2 times we got ****ed (porto 3-0, rosenborg 3-0), 1 time we were ****ing robbed (3-2 juventus), 1 time we were the better team but threw it away (bayern 2-1), 1 time we didnt turn up at all (1-0 anderlecht), and this 1 time we Should have got a draw, but a combination of injuries and idiocy ****ed us (3-2 lyon).
but whatever way you look at it, weve lost 6 times. No team can go through to the knockout stages until it learns from shit like that,

Re: Hay Deffeh (football thread)
I went to see the PSV game last night and came home (barely) having escaped frostbite. My feet were cold enough to instantly freeze any liquid they would make contact with.
Having said that, it was nice to see a technically better Deportivo getting beaten by a more determined PSV. I even got to hope for a full eleven minutes for the miracle that would get us through to the second round. alas, one canonball free kick was all that was needed to shred that hope apart. Luckily this means we'll (with a bit of luck) get to play more European matches than we would have had if we went through.

Varga has this season, until that game, been good.
Michael Gray would not get a game for a Scottish first division side, and im Not joking you. Id happily pick any left back in the Scottish Division one over Michael gray to play in the celtic team

Re: Hay Deffeh (football thread)
we were proper ****ed without Alan thompson
PS
Hows this for a tactical move?
You are martin o'neill. Your team plays a 3-5-2 and has for... well, for your entire reign. Problem is, you only really have 2 really good wide players, midfield or defence (thats if you count agathe as really good anymore). So your system works perfectly - if you need to sub, or if one gets injured, your two flair players (miller and petrov) can do the job, perfectly well defensively, but not very well offensively.
You lose Agathe on the right to injury, and Thompson on the left to suspension. This naturally leaves you with a big problem.
So your decision is to :
1. Change from the 3-5-2 that celtic always play and know how to work
2. Change to a 4-4-2 - thus meaning you need to play FOUR wide players (left and right backs, left and right mids) even though you only have TWO good wide players and they are BOTH INJURED.
3. You play Johan Mjallby at right back, even though hes a centre half and hes been injured for 4 months.
4. You play Michael gray at left back. You dont seriously expect to win a champions league game with michael gray, do you?
5. You play Liam Miller at right mid. Granted hes a flair player and many managers often shove their flair guys out on the wings - but thats not his position, and hes a young inexperienced player.
6. You play stan petrov on the left wing - despite his lack of a left foot.
7. This leaves you with the fantastic pace of Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon in central midfield.
8. You neglect to realise that with no one to swing balls into the box, you cant utilise the heading skill of Larsson, Hartson or Sutton, which is your greatest threat. In fact, you dont think about how the **** your going to score a goal at all, with your main forward driving players (miller and petrov) stuck out on the wings.
9. You (buy, and then) select Magnus Hedman to play in goals, not realising he will THROW THE ****ING GAME AWAY just like he did in Munich.
10. You lose 3-2 after even your best players (Balde) play ****ing shit, and you wonder why you lost, and why you never once looked like going through.

I'd say 'We'll have him!', but we already have the best left back in the first division, and one of the best in the country.

Re: Hay Deffeh (football thread)
i can, and i cant complain. I do after all support a team that pretty much has a 50% chance of winning the league any given season. Some people go out and support their teams who struggle to make mid table. Jakiri said rightly without the lows, the highs mean nothing. Hes spot on. But without the highs, you cant understand the lows.
It seems every team i support regardless of the sport is destined to throw it all away in the worst possible way at the last possible moment.
And when a complete idiot like me can tell why it happened, and/or how it could have been prevented, it really ****s me off.

Re: Hay Deffeh (football thread)
you live with what you're used to. Sunderland have a great chance of promotion either this year, or next, or the next - basically until they do ! - and if they do, you'll be loving it. Its inevitable a club of your size will return to the premiership.
Celtic i get used to getting optimistic about, and then watching us get screwed over / screw ourselves over at the last ****ing minute. If we win the league this year, great, it means we ****ed over rangers (which is after all, all the SPL is about). If you win division one this year youll be ecstatic. Theres this difference, that when we were finally going somewhere, we managed to **** it up again.

How long is healy out for? He was starting to look the part for us as well.
PS Deffeh your biggest problem was when larsson started dropping deep due to the fact that celtic were only playing long balls in the second half because they had no real midfield outlets (bar miller on a couple of occasions). When Larsson starts dropping back (and staying back) you know celtic are in trouble.

He was rammed into with two feet about a foot above the ground. His leg was bent significantly the wrong way.
Looks like being about 2-4 months at least.
ps.
Sean Thornton will look the part for you as well when he's fit
[edit]
You know what the worst thing is? A tackle like that which goes a clear foot above the ball isn't even punished by a yellow card, and my memory tells me we didn't even get a free kick.
People may complain about referees, but until you've experienced the first division (or below; NB3, I'm sobbing for Rovers I really am) you'll never know the joy of the best player on the field being sent off for diving outside his own box, when before he's skipped over all the challenges. Or the wrong player being sent off for a professional foul in the box. Or (the list goes on and on)
