[quote=lokken]Turnip = Graham Taylor
Who despite having an utterly shite squad played the kids, brought them on miles and kept them up quite comfortably, only to be booed at home to Sunderland when they managed it.
There's gratitude for you. .[quote]
With the amount of shite Graham Taylor had to put up with as the England gaffer that should seem like a walk in the park.
Surely?
That the problem with English football, the media/fans slate your gaffers for sport just because they sometimes think outside of the box (hoddle is an exception)

I can't wait for my trip to Villa Park next year pig Need to get rid of Ellis.
I don't see why O'Neil would take the job, is his wife better now ? Surely he has the United job as soon as it comes up ?

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
His house isnt too far away from Birmingham afaik so the traveling time isnt half bad.
Another thing is that at Villa he wudnt have too many expectations to begin with seeing as our last seasons have been crap.

I like the Guardian caption: "A stretch alongside Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer may have dulled Martin O'Neill's senses: he's about to become the new Aston Villa boss"

Not on the BBC site website either, I got it from here since I don't have the radio on, it's just come up on several other sites as well though.

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
re o'neill : as a celtic fan, i can tell you, he is the best manager in the world at polishing turds - turning average players into good players, good players into great player (hello alan thompson scoring diving headers against oliver kahn in the olympikstadion)
however, no one has ever really rated him in the transfer market and rightly so. if he had someone handling that side of things for him, villa could rise the table quickly.
btw if o'neill comes i might even have to reneg my anti-villa stance

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
Villa have done very well for themselves in getting O'Neill. He can definitely be the man to get them back into the top six slots regularly.

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
Was looking at his record on Sky Sports News... its very very good!
UEFA cup final with Celtic
3 League titles in 3 years
Leicester up to 8th in the premiership in there 3rd year in the prem
FA cup final with leicester (won one, lost one)
Very impressive tbh. Minute he left leicester they went back to the Championship... so the future looks bright for villa.

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
Hey its looking even better for us Villains With the takeover immenent from 1 of the 3/4 interested parties O'Neill should be getting a bit of cash to splash
I think we could do with a midfield dynamo, ie Hargreaves. Then try and nab a creative player like Malbranque off fulham.

Not wanting to piss on your bonfire here chaps.
But there are 21 days for other bids. And the transfer window closes in less

As a Portsmouth fan I'd officially like to not recommend escape via the January Transfer Window.
It's very very very very bad for your health.

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
O'Neil is over rated. Villa's squad is almost as thin as Newcastle's. To call him a saviour is ludicrous. Dave Basset would be called a saviour if he helped Villa to avoid relegation, savour mid to low table mediocrity. I’ve seen to many false dawns, only Spurs have a chance of breaking the top 4, but they always fade away, just like Newcastle.
Just look at the dirty Mackams.
Quote.....'Save Our Sunderland, the group which orchestrated the protests against former chairman Bob Murray, has declared the August 12th home game against Plymouth as St Niall's Day.
The intention is to make it a day of celebration "of everything that is great about Sunderland AFC".
So the mackems duly turned up clad in green, for a game in which the opposition wore their customary green shirts and won 3-2.
Over 2,000 fans fell off Niall Quinn's magic carpet between Wednesday's home defeat to Birmingham and Saturday's game, but those present did see their side take a first minute lead.
Normal service was soon resumed though as the mackems were booed off at half time, having fallen behind 2-1.
Quinn's ragged band then found an equaliser in the second half, only to then fall behind again after a further bout of comic book defending.
Cue that familiar sinking feeling, with home fans flouncing off towards the exits before the final whistle.
That's played 3 lost 3 - a glorious new era indeed'.
Be warned. O’Neil is a face, but don’t start sucking each other’s dicks quite yet.

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
I would agree villas squad is thin, however we have a hell of a lot of potential and a cracking youth setup. O'neil will have some money to spend and he can motivate players. Now we have Randy Lerner on board I would like to believe that we can start going places.
I understand that a team that havent bought anyone and have its two best players injured whom finished 16th arent going to challenge for the top 4 however I believe we can start progressing and I believe the aim is to look at the top 10 and take it from there.
The problem with newcastle is you buy shit players no one else wants.

Re: [Football] One down, One to go
Yeah the part where he promises to turn them into a top4 club was quite entertaining. Will be at least 2 years till that happens no matter how much money he puts into it due to the stability of clubs around the fringes of Europe.
