Age of Magic

"Magic can be divided into 8 elements, or essences. Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light, Shadow, Time, and what we have decided to call 'Soul'. These are of course, the common every day elements of nature that surround us. Those who learn to control them according to their own will are said to possess magical abilities. These elements of magic are linked to certain colors that we have used as their symbols.

Fire-Red
Earth-Green
Wind-White
Water-Blue
Light-Yellow
Shadow-Black
Time-Purple
Soul-Orange

When magic was first discovered, the first sages created one ring for each element, each one infused with magical ability, to help them learn to control the elements. Over time, as magic became more and more widespread, these rings became unnecessary. Rather than destroy these historic relics, we, your highnesses 8 essence sages, have sealed them away in a sanctuary and protected them from evil forces. We now having mastered the commanding of all elements, we humbly suggest to his higness that we be granted permission to research the mixing of these essences to produce greater spells.

Thus is the written the story of how magic came about. It is now a time where magic flourishes. Children learn simple tricks by the time they enter grade school, and very lack any magical ability at all. These are predominately those who have their own moral problems with it (for the most part dwarves) and those with a severe intelligence handicap, such as cows. The kingdoms of Kalidor, Islandia, Galusha, and the judgedom of Kish live in peace, rapidly advancing their knowledge of the arcane arts. Each kingdom contains regions which co-exist with it, but are nevertheless not directly controlled by the country. The elves and dwarves prefer to keep to themselves for the most part, and their neighboring countries do not force their will upon them. Kalidor, Galusha, Islandia, and Kish are all seperated by the Brycean Sea, but through teleportation and sea travel, communications are not lacking. Then the day of change began, with only a few noticing anything different at all..........

BASIC KINGDOM INFORMATION

Kingdom of Kalidor--Southern Continent, ruled by human King Tean, mostly plains, capital city is Furrowind. Renegade swamp and the High Forest are points of interest.

Kingdom of Islandia---Western Continent, ruled by human Queen Gwendolyn, sea faring nation with powerful navy, capital city is Mar, contains a small amount of forests, mountains, and is rumored to have a hobbit shire in the northern tip.

Kingdom of Galusha--Northern Continent, ruled by human Queen Alexa, cousin of King Tean. Capital city is Larinor. Very mountinous region where the dwarves and gnomes feel quite at home. Dracena Peak is the tallest mountain in the world, with the black forest to its east.

Judgedom of Kish--Kish has left the monarchy style of government and is now ruled by a system of judges. Spracket the halfling is the chief judge, residing in the capital city of Harvendale. Kish has encountered a few more problems with its more liberal style of government, but insists they are better off than they were with a King.

Spells: fireball, the old classic of fire mages, the fireball is a simple yet potentially quite potent weapon, it is for most mages a simple ball of flame that upon impact causes a small explosion, however some powerfull mages have become such experts with this simple weapon as to be capable of creating explosion powerfull enough to tear down the walls of even the strongest fortress.
firestream stream of fire coming forth from the hands of the caster, this powerfull flame can burn through most armour and kill the men inside, it is however short range only and cannot be sustained for long.
fireblast, an evolvement of the fireball, the fireblast is more difficult to cast, but also much faster to cast, its damage is comparable to a fireball but its speed unrivaled.
fire shield, a shield of fire and magic, it is less capable of stopping magic then a normal magical shield, but has the added advantage of burning anything or 1 trying to get through and thus blocking melee attacks as well.
flame, a simple, instantly hitting, fire attack, nothing more then a sudden large amount of heat being created on a target, called flame because the target almost always burst into flames.

Nationality: Galusha, currently however residing in Islandia (see history for details)

History: Born from a farmers family in a small mountain side village. Nibimacarion entered apprenticehood at the age of 16, quickly discovering that he was most capable of fire magic, and his magical potential grew quickly in the first few years. It has not been untill his 26th year of age however that he reached a peak in his power, ending his faster then normal growth of magical abilities and putting him at an average level for mages. Nibimacarion's master however believed that it was not his true power that Nibimacarion was exhibiting and tought that perhaps he needed some new incentive to grow in power and thus Nibimacarion ventured out into the world, Which after almost a decade, left him in Islandia, his knowledge of magics other then fire greatly increased, but his ability in fire magic still little more then average.

Nibimacarion learned to use his sword from an old friend of his, 1 that he encountered many years ago and before his apprentice-hood, it was him who taught Nibimacarion most of what he currently knows about swordfighting while he was training. In his long years of exploring the world Nibimacarion has however slightly improved on this and is now reasonably capable of wielding a sword and thus a lot less vulnerable in close combat then 1 would expect of a mage, something which many a rogue discovered when Nibimacarion suddenly struck with his short sword.

Fire ball: uhh, see flapjack's thingy
Fire wall:the name is fairly self explanitory, it creates a wall of flame of whatever length, acts similarly to fire sheild
Fire stream: borrowed from flapjack
Flame: also borrowed from flapjack
Burst: something of an amalgamation between the flame and fireball spells this spell causes an explosion of fire that sticks to whatever it touches and burns for however long the caster wishes (somewhat akin to a napalm bomb)
Wild fire: this rather exausting, overkill version of flame sets everything within its very large area of effect on fire
Exploder: the name says it all

HISTORY:
Despite his fathers continuous prompting Razael was always never interested in his families trade as a soldier. Spending most of his time down at the docks with sailors. As he grew he became very much one of them, he was an accomplished sailor by the age of 13 and came to enjoy the sea very much. His sense of balance that profitted him so well upon the rolling waves was also made to serve him on land granting him an impressive ensemble of acrobatics, learnt mostly from various performers passing through the docks. Combined with the exercise gleaned from being onboard ships he grew strong, wirey and dextrous.

Many of the sailors were skilled at magics that were beneficial to their jobs, able to call up winds or cause fish to almost literally jump into their nets. Razael observed and copied them, proving himself quite proficient at minor tricks though unable to grasp their more potent skills.

On his 15th birthday, finally having given up teaching his son the ways of battle, his father bought him a boat. it wasn't a large boat, flat-bottomed with a small sail and barely enough room in it for 2 people. Razael was delighted with his gift and immediately after his birthday celebrations ended he went down to the docks and set sail, he hadn't intended to sail very far, just out to the edge of the harbour and back again. That night a sudden freak storm struck the city, seeming to brew up out of nowhere. Gokan was caught in the midst of this storm, and in his small craft was dragged out to sea.

His parents were distraught and their hopes gradually faded as the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months. The sailors kept a sharp eye out for any sign of what might have befallen him.

One year, to the day, later another storm almost identical to the year previous' struck the harbour. The next day the sun was shining down upon the destruction the storm had wrought. Razaels small skiff was guided skillfully into the harbour. Razael's parents, who had given up all hope on finding him were overjoyed, their son had returned to them. Razael could not understand his parents joy, nor could he understand how they seemed to have aged, he remembered being caught in the storm, the boom had struck him around the head and he'd fallen unconscious. When he awoke he had, despite the storms ferocity, only drifted a few miles out to sea, and had immediately set about returning home. He had no memory of the intervening year, though he was surprised to see that he too had aged as though a year had gone by. At first everything was well, but soon his behaviour became erratic violent mood-swings struck him. Most bizarre was the fact that each time he became angry the sky overhead would darken and rain would fall and the sea became more turbulent. He also started to paint and draw around this time. His art started out crude and simple, but rapidly he improved. His drawings were unusual, of vast cities seemingly underneath the water, of sea creatures unknown to even the most experienced of sailors. When asked what he was drawing he replied that he did not know, just that he felt compelled to draw what he drew.

His parents called for a priest, not an unusual practice for many priests were also doctors. After examining the boy he could find nothing physically wrong with him. After many more weeks of testing the priest declared that he was possessed, in part at least, by some kind of spirit. It resisted his divinations and the exorcisms of several elder priests, proving that it was powerful. Both priests and parents were unsure what to do, he could not stay in the city, one of his more violent bouts of possession had already nearly capsized a small fishing boat and options were discussed at length.

It was nearing his 17th birthday when Razael caught his parents in one of these discussions with the priests. After listening carefully behind the door he had slipped away, taking only a few supplies and leaving a hastily scrawled note, promising he would return when free of whatever had taken him a year ago...

A year has passed, Razael has learnt little of his captor, except that it is a water spirit of considerable standing, apparently wrongfully exiled to the surface for some unspecified crime it did not commit. It is arrogant and powerful with a bizarre and complex code of ethics and honour that deny explanation. The spirit hardly ever communicates with him, though it seems able to take control of his body when he is under considerable stress or when he is angry. The pairs personalities have apparently started to blend, something the spirit apparently fears greatly, for bound forever to his weak fleshy body he will be unable to return home and face those who framed him. One of the results of this blending is that Razael's own magical abilities have increased considerably, though also become steadily more and more aligned with water. Nevertheless the magical power he wields is seemingly nothing compared to the raw elemental power that the spirit wields though him when it takes control...

Before I decide I would like to know more about the magic classes themselves. Specifically the limitations involved and what the defined borders are with each one, e.g. to what point does one have control over shadows or water, etc. An example would be is it possible to hide within plain sight or patial shadows, or does it have to be a large area of covering.

Another point that I as ones idea of what an element of magic or essences in this case, can do overall. The borders can somewhat blur as a result of indervidual opinion, say I might asusme taht control over water means you can not only control the element in its habitat or enviroment, but also within the body itself. Meaning you could in theory kill somone from within through various means. The element that I am most confused about is soul and time as them in theirselfs could cover a lot from causing a spiritual plague upon somones body with soul to draining the life from them. Consering time could be possible to slow ones enemies down, or it could be used to reverse time around oneself to some degree to stop a stab wound from happening,

Though I am aware that what the user can do depends greatly upon their level to simplfy this matters here, so I only wish to cover up some points of query before I create my character.

You may be whatever you want. Most warriers know some minor spells, but if you prefer being a purist, by all means, go for it.

BASIC IDEAS OF ESSENCES
Fire, Earth, Wind, Water---control element, summon elemental, create element, etc
Time--Manipulate the flow of time around an individual or area (slow, view past present, etc)
Soul--Magic of the heart and mind, illusionists magic. Create illusions (such as invisibility), read minds, control animals, etc
Light--Magic of the paladins and clerics. Healing, invincibility, etc
Shadow--Magic of necromancers, witches. meld with shadow, summon demons, etc

IMPORTANT: Because a lot of spells in the time period of the game are a combination of essences (for example wind and time combine for teleportation), you do NOT need to choose a category for your spells, but put down just about any spell you want your character to have. Don't worry about limits on magic abilities, as magic is flourishing rapidly. If your character has devoted his life to magic, then feel free to show that. Also, as you pointed out, your ideas of what an essence can do might be different than mine. For the most part, that is ok because the elements can be combined in different ways to produce similar spells. The only rule is that if I say you can't, you can't. Your spiritual plague idea would be a good example of a combination of soul and shadow. The plague from shadow, the spiritual part from soul. For the most part, the control the elements is limited to outside a living things body, as their bodies have natural defenses to prevent an imbalance of homeostasis. However, it is not impossible to do such things, just highly difficult because of the persons personal defenses and the small amount of element involved. Such a spell would be time consuming, require an enormous amount of concentration, and would be fairly easy to counter. Good questions, hope this clears it up some.

Anyone who wishes to alter their chars due to this added info, feel free to do so. Hopefully my internet will get turned back on at my house today, so I'll be able to get on later. If not, I'll approve chars tomorrow.

Spells: Stregth-This spell increases Ander's strength to that of a superhuman level for a short period
Aglility-This spell increases his reflexes and speed over all for a couple of hours, as a
biproduct of this spell he can bruch arrows aside aslong as they come from in front of him

History: The swoard masters are an order that seeks learning and weapons capable of combating the darkness in the world. They don't have a lot of offensive magic most of there spells are used to supplement there bodies in combat, able to fight much harder, faster, longer then most other warriors. Most people show some afflunice with magic however one capable of being a swoard master is rare. Even rarer now that the Tower of the Swoard Master's Tower has been destroyed.

Ander was one of the last to be identifed with potential to become a swoard master. He was discovered at the age of 14 much older then most other canidates. He plunged inot his studies at the tower trying to catch up with the other student's his age. As he studied however he not only caught up with them but supassed them and at the age 19, two years earlier then most canidates, he got the great swoard that markes a swoard master. He was assinged a final test of climbing to the nearest Dragon den and learn the story of the darkness and the light.

The Dragon told the story for this is final trial of the swoard masters , and to learn from it that good and evil are constantly in a balcane and that evil seeks to disrupt the balcane and destroy the light. This is why the swoard masters exist. Befor he left the dragon prophised he would be given the greatest role of any swoard master in history to bring about true balalnce to the light and darkness. Ander had no idea what he meant but knew that the elders in the tower would know.

When he returned to the tower he found a burnt out ruin. He found a diying servant and took care of him for three days befor he finally died. With his last die breath he said the balance is shifting he is returned.

Occ/hope dm don't mind the story dose kinda assume alot for one of the charactes.

Edit: Clarification to Zombies char, unless you had something else in mind, the water spirit is bonded to you through the use of a soul magic spell.

Ok let the thread begin!

ISLANDIA ( FJ, Zombie)

You look out over the land of Islandia at the dawn of a new day. It is hard to believe that only a week ago, the sailors would head out to their ships before day break to get a head start on the days catches. The children would run by snapping their wingers, watching magical sparks fly every time they did it. Today however, is different. For a week, the waters have been too rough for the sailors to sail on. Water elementals routinely rise from the waves and attack any ship that dares to brave the already raging sea. Oddly enough, the children have not made any magical sparks for some time now. As a cool breeze from the north blows in your face, a royal herald arrives in Mar's town square, and begins shouting to the public.

"By the request of her majesty Queen Gwendolyn, any and all skilled warriors and wizards are requested to join her majesties royal guard as protector. As you all know, our situation grows worse by the day. The winds and waves prevent our ships from sailing, and us from obtaining fish. Those ships that are strong enough to withstand this storm are attacked by water elementals. Because of the apparent decline in the powers of our people over the last week, we must ask a demonstration of your abilities before you may be accepted. If you are accepted, you will have an immediate audience with the Queen for an urgent assignment. Please now, rise up to save our nation."

At first no one moves, then one by one, the strongest mages of the city try out. One by one they are all turned down, failing to show an ability greater than that of an apprentice.

KISH (Kama)

You rise late in the morning again, due to the seemingly endless night. Since the change of the winds the week before, Harvendale has changed dramatically. It seems everyone is falling ill to a new, and so far untreatable disease. The light has been as though the city were cast into a permanent dusk, though everyone can see the sun rise and fall in the morning and night. It simply gives no change in the amount of light in the day or night. As you prepare for the day, there is a knock at your door. Out the window you can see it is the local clergy , what appears to be all the priests of the city. Outside they call to you.

"Kama are you there? We have come to find all those who possess healing abilities that we might try to rid ourselves of this gruesome plague. Your neighbors have fallen ill, we cannot afford to lose another healer. Yesterday we went to cure as many as possible, but it takes more and more of us to heal someone each day. If we do not hurry and eradicate this plague, all of Kish will be nothing but a ghost town!"

GALUSHA (Mad Cat, mrmao, Zappa)
The land looked more and more parched and dry every day. If the rains did not come soon, there would be problems. Normally the Queens mages would create rain to give drink to the dry land. Why were they not doing so now? It was reported that the fires in the mountains and woods were increasing. Without water, the flames could conceivably destroy all that was left. The drought had been going on for a while, causing many trees to die, which only gave more fuel to the rumored blazes. In the streets, pandemonium reigns. Many residents, fearful for the welfare of their homes and families, were trying to find passage to the southern continent of Kalidor. The harbor master however, had closed all passages from the island, due to the rising number of missing ships that attempted to leave to the south. One captain had set sail and turned back, reporting numerous elementals and extreme storm conditions in the sea. For a week the people had realized they were stranded, and instead began looking for ways to end the drought.
All of the sword masters had been found dead, and with their dissapearance, the panic only increased. The Paladins order of the Silver Hand were based out of Kaliidor. With the sword masters dead and the paladins so far away, the people struggled to find hope. Skepticism of the government grew, as the queens mages seemed powerless to do anything. As a herald arrives from the castle with updates on the situation for the townsfolk, a group of them begin to go angry.

"Who is the Queen to tell us that all is well when she sits safe in her castle while we die of thirst? Our water supply will not last much longer!"

One man takes the lead of the crowd, inciting them to take revenge and get what is theirs. The herald is taken hostage and the now armed mob heads to the castle to make its demands.

"I will help at once, of course."

Kama lifted his trusty harp and followed the clergy, who were mildy curious how they managed to arrive back where they were treating the ill and get a shadowy deja vu type feeling of having just watched themselves leave.

"I can near stop the growth of the disease... if that's what it is, if you can heal the victims as before, you may find it more effective now."

He brought the harp out to rest on his arm and began to play, a rather unflattering tune, as he focused and the tempo drops, a slower melody develops. Calming music smoothing the sick and a subtle influence of Kama's temporal magic slowing the spread of illness almost to a stop.

Withering Cloak – The user draws around themselves or a group, a cloak of darkness to hide their presence even in broad daylight if there is sufficient shadow coverage. (Shadow)

Drain – Being able to absorb the energy of other creatures at will on touch to fuel their own vitality and health. Though not lethal unless used for a long period on someone it does make them feel tired the more they lose. (Soul)

Shadow Stalker – Creates a shadow minion with a limited ability to interact with small objects, acting as both aid and act as a distraction to scare some lesser hearted foes.

Death – Causes death instantly in unaware targets e.g. sleeping or distracted by ripping the energy/soul from the victim.

Crippling Blow – Not a spell by anyone’s definition but rather the combined effectiveness of lethal poisons coated on their own claws, then used to break a blood vessel or vessels. D&D

I'll just need either short histories to tailor into the story, or you can work it into a post. If you opt for the latter, the situation in Kish is the same as in Kama's portion of the DM. An odd plague is spreading through the land, with the clerics become less and less able to heal those who have it, and prevent its disease. The plague strikes any and everything that lives, including magic users who were supposed to have immunities to such things.

KAMA

As you play your harp, you can see the flow of time slowing in the area, hopefully giving enough time to the priests to heal the sick. Then something happens. The spell becomes harder to control, and the effects begin to wear off, but not entirely. By concentrating heavily, much more than you realize you should need to, you are able to slow time around the afflicted, but must give up trying to slow it around anyone else. Obviously whatever is weakening the priests abilities is beginning to take its toll on you as well. The high priest moans.

"Confound it, it's just as we suspected. There is something more going on here than a mere plague I fear, however you have managed to slow time down in the area for the time being. Perhaps the paladins in Kalidor could do something. Unfortunately, we have not seen them for quite some time. Where could they be? Kama, I must tell you something. At the rate that my fellow clerics and I are losing our abilities, we shall be powerless to stop the spread of disease ourselves within a few days. We need the help of the paladins. If you would seek them, find Judge Spracket, he governs the use of the teleporter. I fear this may be our only hope. We shall stay here and do our best until you return. I hope this is not to much of a favor to ask, I know you are a busy man."

Sejuuk stands at the edge of the mob and watches the developments with a bemused look on his face, he had been careful to avoid being drawn into the crowd and so come under the very strange effect that was mob mentality, nevertheless he follows the crowd to see what happens, though looking very much like an apathetic bystander Sejuuk was actually rather worried about the situation, there were fires coursing through the hills and forests of his home, laying waste to large areas, even if they were not quite as bad as people seemed to think but they were still a potent hazard. as he and the crowd approached the castle Sejuuk slowly made his way to the mobs front end while staying away from it's border, he begins to prepair his firewall spell in the hope that he will not have to use it to keep the crowd from doing something stupid

Ander sat in library of the queens castle. He had been there for three days. Looking for anything in acinet history of the swoard masters. This library didn't have much over five hundered years old nothing of real importance. He got back up looking for anything that could help him. He brrowsed the sheleves and finally came to a corner. Here were the oldest tomes. He browesed the shelves looing for anything, then he found it a smaller tattered tome. He read the faded ink on the cover, The War of Power and Other Releveant Studies. Ander nearly feel over this was the oldest known book written only a decade after the War of Power, last great attempt of evil to break the balance. The swoard masters had a copy but, belived all the others gone. If his hunch was correct about what was coming this would be invaluble.

Ander wen't back over to the table were some of the histores were still scattered. As he was about to sit down in the high back chair again Ander heard shouting from the corridor. It wasn't very clear. So, Ander got up and walked to the door. As he poked his head out the door a guard stoped and looked at him.

"Master, a mob angry with the queen is coming this way. We think they come to kill the queen." the guard said all this at a nervous pace.

"Don't worry I'll be there in a minute." Ander could tell he was nervous he wasn't a vetran and neither was Ander, but he had been stuying about six years longer then this guards man.

Ander wen't back to the library. He put his clock on and tocked the ancient tome in the pocket of his clock. He slung his great swoard over his back and left for the main court yard. This castle wasn't a true defensive fortress and the gate was pretty flimsy for stoping a mob, and if they really wanted in that gate wouldn't stop them.

Dakkon sighed, deeply, as he left the caves behind him and headed back to the town. The drought had awakened the urge for his people to see the city aswell, and as usual, when his people wanted to see the city, it was to complain to the officials. He headed for one of the many known holy places, where the sages of the city would perform their rituals and bring rain to the county

As the various mages tried out, Nibimacarion watched their pitifull attempts at magic, several of them actaully failing to generate enough water to fill a small bucket, after watching for a while, the bucket by now completely full, Nibimacarion got up and walked over, preparing a fire spell as he went. By the time he got his turn to demonstrate his ability, Nibimacarion had to dump some of the energy from his spell, afraid that he might not just boil and vaporise the water, but set the wooden bucket on fire as well.

With his spell now ready and Nibimacarion standing directly in front of the bucket, he took 1 final effort, concentrating deeply for a moment to guide his spell to the target, the water in the bucket, before releasing it. Something in the area seemed to interfere with his aiming, as it was harder then normal, but Nibimacarion quickly dispelled the tought, the disturbance most likely coming from the large volumes of water nearby.

Mad Cat, Mrmao

The mob stops short of the flimsy castle gates, which were mostly ornamental. There had never been any real reason to install strong gates, as a magic barrier usually protected the castle. Now, it was gone. The mob yells to the Queen, who in concern has emerged on to the balcony.

"Queen Alexa! Your time of ruling is up! We have suffered of thirst and hunger from the lack of crops long enough! Enough is enough! We shall rule ourselves, like the people of Kish! Surely we will be better off!"

The Queen shakes her head.

"Do you not see? Magic is being depleted from the land. If you were to rule yourselves you would not be able to find any sages strong enough to break the drought yourself!"

Angered at her retort, the mob moves to the herald.

"Very well........OFF WITH HIS HEAD!"

A sword is brought from the back, and the herald is brought to the front of the mob. A block is placed near the gate, and the heralds head thrust on to it.

Zappa

Arriving at the holy place at the base of the mountain, you find the Queens sages, desperately trying to cast spells, but to no avail. They are so preoccupied, they do not even notice you arrive for a good few moments. Turning, the water mage notices you.

"Aye sir? Is there something we can help for ye?"

What would have a week ago caused the water to instantly vaporize now brings it to a fast boil, after a few moments it evaporates all at once. The authorities look at you.

"Well that's the best we've seen today. Sir, we are in great need of those who can still wield the powers of magic. If we take you to meet the Queen, you will be sworn to an order of secrecy, in order to protect what mission you may be assigned to as well as keep the locals from panicking in any way. What say you? If you have any questions, I shall answer as best as the Queen has allowed me."

Making your way to the courthouse, you quickly find the chief judge on the front steps, talking with some of his advisors.

EDIT: I just realized I DMed mrmao into the wrong country. Obviously he had some sort of study to complete.......or something...........so mrmao, you're in Galusha for the time being.

Gokan watches as a fire mage boils a bucket of water into steam and several other mages attempt inneffectually to fill similar buckets. He frowns for a moment another similar bucket that had been placed before him, half-full.

As he glowers at the water within the bucket, it slowly begins to swirl, like a whirlpool. Meticulously Gokan eliminates all extraneous thought and focuses upon the water. In his mind he meticulously builds up an image of what he wishes the water to do. The swirling continues to grow in intensity, until eventually the bucket topples over, spilling it's contents over the floor.

Several other mages in attendance, and at least one of the examiners start laughing. Gokan smirks shuts his eyes, drops his head and sharply intones a single syllable. At first, nothing happens, then the surface of the water bulges in several places before seperating into a dozen small puddles.

Each of the puddle bulges out from the floor about three inches. A drop of sweat flows down Gokan's forehead.

This shouldn't be this hard...

Each puddle slowly molds into a perfectly sculpted inch tall depiction of one of the mages in the room. The shapes distort, becoming charicatures of the failing mages, tripping over their own feet, filling buckets with the water that composes their own heads.

The sculptures suddenly rush together, coalescing into a large shapeless mass from which features emerge. Finally the collected mages are staring at two Gokans, although one is significantly shorter than the other and composed of water. The duplicate steps into the bucket and Gokan intones another syllable, banishing the animating spark of the minor water elemental and the water sloshes back down into the bucket.

Gokan finds himself breathing heavily and somewhat over-warm.

Combined History :-

Found at a young age survinving in the woods of the land, by a solitary preist. Reconising their far from demonic heritage but reconsing a human side to them. Taking them into his own house to raise as his own, hoping to purge them of their wild heritage. Seeming succesful untill reaching a mature age in life when the dosile life became a bore, and tired of the isolation they grew restless.

Dispearing away one dark night, taking goods and gold to sell and live of, coming upon the closest city their money doesnt last thgem long, and finding little in the way of comfort or tolerance from most. Forced into hidding their apperance their sole comfort comes from the night and shadows, learning harness their natural traits over time both magical and phyiscal.

Turning to crime to survive having no remorse or cares at the stolen wealths and triails of bodys left in the wake of their career. Moving from city to city settling in the judgemon of kish, finding the splintered new goverment easier to work around than a monarchy.

The Queen's page watches your performance. "Excellent! We have found 2 who can still use magic. The Queen will be most pleased."

He thanks the participants and dismisses them. Speaking quietely to you he lets you in on the purpose of the event. "Sir, the Queen has been most distressed over the recent events. The tempests and lack of magic are quite disturbing. She has a plan to restore order, but it will take the courage and strength of a few who can still wield magic. Should you not desire to join the Queen's quest, you are not obliged to. It will be dangerous, I shall not mince words. We shall do our best to compensate you, though we can make no promises on what you receive until after this is all over. What say you?"

Zappa

The sages stop their distractive talking as they see you attempting to see the past. The etchings in the stone circle on the ground glow a distinct purple color. Standing on the circle, the light seems to form a wall around you as you watch the sages leave backwards, and the sun rise in the west and set in the east as time rolls back. As you near the one week mark it becomes increasingly difficult to hold the spell, and you must muster all your concentration and energy to continue. Your vision becomes fairly cloudy, but you are able to watch as a man in a black robe and hood enters the area, stands on the circle, and casts a spell. You see the circle glow green, blue, and black. You do not recognize the man, but you see the mark of the Kalidor Desert prison on his hand. Viewing this takes your last ounce of energy, and you are returned to the present time. The sages stand in awe.

"Amazing.....how is it the spells do not work for us?"

D&D
Sitting in a well populated bar, you both keep your hoods low to keep from drawing undue attention to yourselves. Most of the people who frequent the bar would not mind, but experience has shown it best not to let your guard down. The people talk loudly, making their gossip easy to hear. Conversations about Galusha's drought, Islandias storms, Kish's plagues, and Kalidors chaos seem to be the highlights of everyones talk of the day.

"I heard all the prisoners in Kalidor escaped!"
"I hear tale the elements are turning against the Galushans and Islandians! Thank goodness we're safe in Kish"

The most disturbing comes from a table next to yours, where a man is describing the symptoms his wife went through before she died of the plague.

"I couldn't believe it.......her eyes were red and blue one day. The next day she was drooling and foaming around the mouth like a madman. Her last day she went into convulsions all day long until she died. The scary thing is no one is immune, even those you'd least expect to.......LOOK! THOSE PEOPLE HAVE RED AND BLUE EYES, ITS THE PLAGUE!"

The building clears out considerably fast. At first it is quite humerous until you both realize he was right. You each have one red and and one blue, the first sign of the plague.

Sejuuk frowns and clenches his hand into a loose fist

this has gone far enough!

he adds more power to the spell and quickly unleashes it, a line of fire races from one side of the castle gate to the other looping around the herald and his to-be executioner before closing off the gap to the castle, Sejuuk then calmly walks foreward through the wall of flame which parts just enough to let him through before snapping shut again, he then crosses the ground between him and the heralds part of the wall prepairing the flame spell, he walks through that wall and casts the fairly weak spell on the executioner's pants which burst into flame, as the man runs about trying to put out his burning pants Sejuuk drags the herald back through the flaming wall

*Kama waits for the advisors finish up with the judge... ok, he doesn't really wait, he kind of cheats patience with a little time magic.

"Your honour, I'm not the bringing of good news, the town clerics are worried about the spreading disease, something is preventing our magic from preventing the sickness... They advised me to seek the Paladins of Kalidor for assistance at once."

The sages quickly huddle together to discuss this turn of events, but you still manage to pick up pieces of the conversation. "I tell you it's not true, it's a fable."
"It is true, I saw him once with my own eyes!"
"Maybe it's part true....in which case this may be the best option."

Turning back to you the accept your offer. "Well Dakkon, we are inclined to agree with your proposition to meet the Queen. If that is your true desire, follow us."

As you regain your composure you follow them to the back entrance of the castle, past the guards, up the stairs, and into the Throne room. The Queen is at the balcony watching something goin on in the front when one of the sages comes and whispers something to her. She quickly returns to the room and sizes you up for a moment.

"Sir seer, I am Queen Alexa. What is your name, from whence do you come, and what is it you desire to speak of?"

MAD CAT

As you cast the spell, you notice it to be significantly weaker than you would have thought, but it is enough to distract the locals nonetheless.

"Ma..ma...magic! I thought there was no more magic left in the land!"

The crowd realizes the pointlessness of fighting someone who still possessed magic, and they quickly disperse, but not before the guards arrest a good number of them. You watch as the Queen motions to one of the guards from the balcony, and leaves suddenly after a brief exchange with what appears to be a sage. The guard captain picks up the herald and salutes you.

"Thank you for your bravery. What is your name? The Queen would wish to thank you in person, if you have a moment."

KAMA

Spracket looks up at you thoughtfully.
"My advisors said it might come to this. Come to my judgement room please."
The courthouse is an old castle from the last monarchy, and few attempts were made to modernize it, it suiting the needs of the country fine as it were. You pass the former king's teleportation chamber, which is locked with a heavy metal door and guarded. You follow the judge into the old throne room. He has the guards close the doors, and does not speak until he is certain no one else can hear.

"I have brought you here because the priests have sent you. The fact that they nominated you to come see me shows they have both a very high respect for you, and that you must still be able to use at least a small portion of magic. Before the federal sages lost their abilities, they saw a vision of 3 individuals heading to Kalidor, presumably to save the land. They saw that without the paladins, we would be consumed by this plague. The problem is we have not found any brave enough to teleport to Kalidor to get them. Our loss of soul magic prevents us from communicating directly, and last we heard, the country was being over run by criminals and monsters. It is a very dangerous place. And to boot, our dwindling magic has made the teleporter quite unsturdy. I know there are 2 catlike humanoids that are currently in the city. The sages were sure they were part of the 3 who went to Kalidor. Perhaps you were the 3rd. If you can find them, perhaps the 3 of you together will have enough strength to bring an end to this plague. Whether they agree to accompany you or not, return and inform me immediately."

Outside you can hear people running in the street screaming something about the local bar, and 2 plague infested creatures.

Ander stood in the coner of the queens audince chamber. He was thumbing through the tome he had found in he had got most of the gist already. This had to be the time and surley anyone who still had any power would be needed to help bring about the balance.

The herald anounces the sage and as he comes in Ander close the tome and looks up he is to the left of the sage so he is not seen. He waits to see what will happen in this audince.

The Queen looks at the dwarf for a moment, listening to what he saw in a vision.

"So....you saw a man with the mark of the Kalidor desert prison on his hand cast a spell in the holy place where the sages summon the rain? Most interesting........but who would do such a thing.....and why? Surely the problems we are having affect them as well. I can't say I know anything that might help alleviate the situation, but perhaps one of the sages does. Sages?"

The sages look at each other, then whisper a bit, apparently still arguing over whether or not "it" is true. The Queen quickly notices and demands an explanation. The time sage steps forward.

"It's nothing your majesty. It's just their is an ancient story about a wizard from long ago who was in the Kalidor desert prison. It is true there is a wizard in the Kalidor desert prison with the same name who was to be executed, but there is no evidence that the 2 are one in the same. In fact, I would say it is safe to say that there never was an all powerful, immortal 'Mordan'."

The Queen sighs. "Then we are no better off than we were in the beginning.........."

Sejuuk watches the crowd disperse with a barely discerable frown and lets the spell drop

it was so weak, i guess something is draining magic from the land

he turns to the herald and opens his mouth to say something just as the guard approaches him he quickly closes it and nods in recognition of the thanks and replies in a preoccupied sounding voice

i am Sejuuk, and, if the queen requests it i have all the time in the world to speak with her

Ander was shocked by these so called sages.
"Your Majesty you let me have accses to your library three days ago and for three days i have lived there looking for an answer to what was happening and why the Swoard Masters were destroyed. Your sages are not aware of the whole truth lieing at best, but in your own library you have a copy of a book from the War of Power it tells of Mordan. This is the same Mordan, the swoard masters captured him and turnedhim over the the monarch then. He was put in prison till his immortality could be removed from him." during the course of this speech Ander holds the tome up, "This is all the proof you need, in this world of magic how can you dobt a wizard being imortal especilly if he aligns himself with evil as Mordan did."

At this point Ander tosses the tome to the feet of the queen. "It is all there just read for yourself."

As the unruly mob pilled and forced their way out of the bar, stray dust littering the air heavily as claps of thundering feet strike across the wooden floor. Arawn composing himself to take a look to the now empty bar, letting the sound settle outside before turning to his silent companion.
"Those plague rumours seem to be true, though how we can be affected is beyond me. I guess that means we have to unertake our own search into it then if we are to outlive this."
Reaching into the depths of his cloak, pulling out a decorated mask. Slipping it over his face covering up the miscoloured eyes, resting his clawed grip back onto the counter of the desolate bar. Scrachting a deep riidge down its grain with a bitter feline hiss.

we must find a way to reverse his spell and end the chaos that it has brought... break his power, and intervene with his plans... I fear too many of our warriors rely too heavily on magic to face him now... even I shall be hardpressed to return to my way of living from the days of yonder... Mordan... I knew him as a boy... it pains me deeply to hear that the years have not taken away his evil spirit

*Take the quest.* says the voice.

Gokan carefully forms his thoughts and snding them down the soul-forged tether that connects him and his advisor.

*This interests you?* But no answer comes.

He sighs and nods to the page.

"Very well... I accept."

The capitan smiles. "Excellent. Please follow me." You are lead into the castle grounds and through a number of corridors and up some flights of stairs to the Queens audience chamber, which when you arrive is already quite full. The guard waits at the back with you for the Queen's acknowledgement.

Mad Cat, Mrmao, Zappa

The soul sage (easily identified by his choice in robe colors) steps forward. "Highness, all but one of your sages agree that this Mordan is real. Only your majesties newest sage of time denies his existence, basing his statements on the fact he has never seen such things in his journeys into the past. I myself have read the book, and believe its words to be truth."

The Queen thumbs through it, then glares at the time mage. "Unless our royal history books lie, it would seem the time sage is in error on this matter, a grave mistake for such a bold statement."

The sage begins to protest but the Queen notices the men in the back and silences him. "Captain?"

"Highness, this elf, called Sejuuk, saved your herald from the mob. His use of magic dispersed them, and given the situation in the country, I thought you might like to thank him personally."

"Indeed captain. Thank you sir Sejuuk. Captain, return to your duties." The guard leaves with a salute.

"2 possesors of magic and a blade master in my court at once. Under the circumstances, I'd say that's rather remarkable. It's almost as if the fates have brought you all here for a reason......" she trails off in thought for only a moment before continuing.

"So, does anyone have any idea how we might go about restoring things to the way they should be? Or as the good Dakkon put it, to reverse and stop the plans of Mordan?"

The time mage begins to protest again, but is silenced by the Queen's eye.

Zombie

The page calls for a carriage. "Superb. Queen Gwen will be most pleased that we have succeeded. Please step into the carriage. The guards will take you. As he closes the door he quips, "Don't forget your manners!"

Out the window of the carriage, you watch as the castle on the hill grows taller and taller. The normally busy port city seems vacant, as people attempt to get by without their daily fishing trade. Arriving at the castle, the guards take you through some security checkpoints, and upstairs to the door of the Queens chamber. Already outside the door, a young human male, who looks to be only about 18 or 19, is dressed in the clothes of a sage. A white robe tied with a red belt being his primary attire, complimented by a blue cloak and hood. He carries a staff which you notice has an odd stone on the end of it. It is clear, but swirls and glows with all the colors of magic.

"Greetings, my name is Matrix. Apprentice to the great sorceress Solena. The Queen is currently speaking with her advisors, but I forsee that we will be granted an audience with her majesty shortly." He looks oddly at you as you approach.

"If I may be so bold, what is your name and what purpose do you have here? I feel as if I have seen you before but I can not place it. You are no doubt one of her majesties royal ambassadors?"

D&D

A man swaggers in the door, obviously unaffected by all the pandemonium outside. He takes a table next to yours. "Ay, I suppose you're the ones condemned by the plague eh? I remember when such thing's weren't a death sentence....."

As his voice trails off, you notice his eyes are also multi-colored. "I figure, if a man's gonna die, why not go out happy? Bartender!"

When no one comes, he hardly notices. "If the paladins of Kalidor weren't so busy with the problems there, I'm sure they could help......problem is I hear tale they haven't communicated with us for near a week now. So.......gotta make every moment last right?"

well, first of all, we'd need to find out what spell he cast there... and find a spell to reverse that magic... second, and perhaps most important, find the old Gems that were used in the days of old to help focus magic, for their help will be needed again now... without them, our magics are too weak. We'll have to form powerfull parties to search for the mage. Mordan will not be taken captive easily, and his immortality makes him all the more difficult to neutralise... that's another reason why we need to know what spell he cast.... if it takes away magical powers, we might be able to use it on him

Letting the man take his seat with a carfull eye follwing him step by step, letting the silence settle before speaking a wary reply.

Reaching across to a bowl of stale bread and cold stew. Flipping the bowl over without a seconds thought, its contets dribbling its way across the table length, dripping steadly onto the worn floor. Picking up the bowl to examine its empty contents slowly

*Kama might have smiled at the judge under less grim circumstances, for the moment he just nodded in agreement.

"Whether or not am fated to quest to Kalidor, I will seek the cat couple and report back.

I'd say it wouldn't take me long, but with things are they are, I may have to start sheduling things again, heh. At your service."

*With that, he darts towards the window/balcony (assuming this is how he was able to hear the noise from the street), and with a few gestures (and quick check he can still focus magic on himself if not others) and leaps from the Judges chambers. Rather conviently for a practicer of time magic, force of impact is inversely proportional to time of contact, and he is able to slow his own time out of phase with the rest of the area, thus ground, and survive his relatively high impulse, to bard another day.

"Right... now what's this fuss..."
