GD Meet.
To get a good idea of where we stand on this.
This would, I imagine, take place around Easter time.
Ste, who would be likely organising it if it were Sheffield/Nottingham says 19/20th of March.
If it's London, then Yahwe will likely be organising it.

Re: GD Meet.
What about the meet being "up north" (Newcastle etc)?

Re: GD Meet.
Well, all of the people around Newcastle have said that they could go to either of the others, circumstances permitting. If people really desperately want Newcastle then in worst case scenario we could make a new poll. But if we shift it further North, it means that some people from down south likely won't want/be able to go. Scottish people will simply have to find some way of getting past the border.
You can't please all of the people all the time.

Re: GD Meet.
I know I voted for Nottingham / Sheffield but that's simply because it's closer.
As long as the meet was well organised and there was a decent number of people turning up, I'd be happy to travel anywhere in mainland UK.

You didn't specify.
All you said was 'mainland UK'
I had to take that as your final answer.

You can take whatever you want as the final answer.
I have a driving licence.
I have a car.
Do you?
Does Michael?
I think we both know who's wearing the trousers now.

Manchester is objectively easier for everyone who doesn't live in Sheffield; it can be done in one train from Glasgow, Edinburgh and London and I'll be damned if anyone from anywhere other than Reading claims they can get to Sheffield easier than Manchester.
Newcastle and Manchester seem to be the only two reasonable choices.

Re: GD Meet.
as a bit of a rant here:
there have been meets in london, people from GD have sneered at them as they haven't been organised by a GD regular
for someone to try and organise a meet, and for everyone to bitch about it, is annoying at best
****s sake people, tell you want, why don't you let this meet go ahead, as it's only a month away, then, someone in the london area can put some effort in in a couple of months time, which gives everyone some notice, so that people from further away can organise money for transpost, and we can all have a good time

Preferably some place that is right around the corner of an airport. I voted the "I don't care where"-option, but an airport is a pre.

I've had a car for two weeks, and anything within twelve hours drive is doable (so airports at Sydney/Brisbane/Melbourne/Broken Hill).
Unfortunately my car is not amphibious, and I am NOT driving up through the Panama Canal.

Getting to Manchester from Cambridge either involves going via London (which is bad, and involves changing train 3 times)), or taking a very slow train (which means changing once, but takes half an hour longer). Getting to Sheffield involves a single change, and takes between and hour and a hour and a half less.
Also, according to thetrainline.com, there are maybe one or two direct trains a day from Glasgow or Edinburgh to Manchester, about the same number direct to Sheffield from Glasgow, and considerably more direct from Edinburgh. London can be done in one train from either.
I think it is safe to say that Shefield is more convenient to people on the east coast main line, whereas Manchester is better for those on the west side of the country. And as I recall, its mostly the east coast line that goes up into Scotland.
London doesnt appeal much as it would be out-and-out too expensive. I'd only be able to afford one drink, and I'd be sleeping under a bridge somwhere. The only place that has been suggested where I haven't lived is Nottingham, so I'd quite like there as an opportunity to see somewhere new. Though I guess it can also be good if its somewhere I know my way around.
So generally, I dont mind, so long as its not London.

Re: GD Meet.
Comrade Mansonov proposes that the Central Committee consider the idea that we should hold the Sheffield/Nottingham meet in March, and then hold another London meet later in the year. This gives people time to save up for the likely more expensive London meet should they wish to go, and also provides some room for choice between the two, should people only wish or be able to travel to one of the meets.
Comrade Mansonov believes this will likely satisfy most people.

Re: GD Meet.
If we all go to London, wouldn't it be hideously expensive to stay somewhere. Plus wherever we go will also be v.expensive, won't it? (especially if Yahwe is choosing...!)
Not that I'm that concerned with the cost, but I don't really fancy a third overdraft.
