World Cup [Not Football]
As mentioned last night in the Creators Hour, we were planning to repeat events from last World Cup and have our own free one.
One issue is how many teams are going to play - if we only have 5 teams competiting, it might not be worth having.
However, assuming we have enough teams to play, we're hoping to have some format similar to the following:
No ingame alliances
private 10 man galaxies
1 minute ticks over 24 hours, nonstop.
Depending on the number of teams, we'll have regional qualifiers (broken down into something like 1-2 UK ones, US, Europe or sections of Europe, rest of world).
This is based on the breakdown of current accounts:
UK ~ 950, US ~ 520, NO ~ 300, NL ~ 250, CA ~ 110, AU ~ 100, DE ~ 100
Then we have Finland, Belgium, Sweden, Romania, Portugal and Denmark with between 75 and 35 accounts.
Teams of people from the larger groups will obviously be country specific, but some of the smaller European regions will be welcome to join up
However, as mentioned in CH we only have 1 prize. As it's going to be hard to share 1 prize between 10 players, and would be a bit unfair to single out one person in a team game, we're planning a separate, single person event.
This will be an endurance race, and may well include removal of the lower players at several points (or continuiously).
Everyone will be in their own galaxy, and again no alliances. The length will be similar to a world cup round, and the top ranking player at the end will be the winner.
The next question is the setup of experience points, score formula and game stats. This is obviously going to be quite essential, especially to the second event, and we'd welcome community input on what stats they'd like to see. Remember if we have no XP, Zik will be quite overpowered, especially long term.

Was there an irish team last time? I'd like to see one this time assuming we can all keep out of the pub for a weekend. A dangerous assumption at best!

How are you going to stop people in the individual game from forming battle groups and attacking together?

Re: World Cup [Not Football]
As I mentioned earlier when we were discussing this, might be a cool idea to have 1 race. With a few classes of Kill ships, 1 EMP type, 1 SK, 1 Pod type etc..
Making everyone on the same ground and footing, abit like old school PA.
XP could be removed etc..
I am not very good at all this combat stuff, I still havn't got to grips with the coder type stuff but its an idea to consider.
I also agree allowing the smaller countries to band up together is a good idea to help them compete viably with the larger ones.
As for the endurance race, I think that could be very intresting indeed

yes of course! The more teams, the more groups and preliminaries. What we need to know is how many are willing to spend 1-2 24 hour periods playing (depending on how good they are :P)
We'll probably stick all the brits in the same group together etc etc, as there's going to be more british teams than any other (almost without a doubt).
but as I said, it'll have to be something like UK on it's own, US on it's own, scandanavia, rest of europe, rest of world (i.e. canada and australia?) or something. That makes the groups more fair.

I'm sure I did something in history how about at one point Britain was blocked with almost the entire world except mainland Europe. But we disbanded the block without even winning.

Are you saying Britain are like New Dawn or NoS?
Edit: I can see this becoming some sort of "World Politics in terms of Planetarion".
"So, like the USA were pwning everyone as they always do, way ahead of the game, and then North Korea pulled an Ascendancy"
"Japan were doing really well, but unfortunately they're too similar to Hirr for their own good and managed to get themselves all killed "
