[football] the big league rnd 4
This is the league where you predict the results of premiership games (score, half-time, first scorer and time of first goal) against other board members, playing either as the available fixed team of your choice, or random.
Actually the three previous versions of this league are all in the top 5 GD threads (based on replies). Past winners are Blastoderm, Apothos and Peace.
This league runs until late December...
01 me - random
02 LHC - random
03 JC - Blackburn
04 MrL - random
05 roadrunner - random
06 Apothos - 'fixed random'
07 Phang - random
08 Blasto - Spurs
09 lupin - random
10 midge5 - middlesbro
11 SYMM - random
12 KoeN - random
13 Kura - newcastle
14 pig - villa
15 sniborp - random
16 furball - random
17 Obliterate - random
18 Zharkov - random
19 Reidy - Sunderland
20 lokken - Portsmouth

Re: [football] the big league rnd 4
This week's fixtures, date on the left, time (if not 1500) on the right...
Code:
13 [Everton] Apothos v Obliterate [Man Utd] 1245
13 [Aston Villa] pig v Phang [Bolton]
13 [Fulham] roadrunner v SYMM [Birmingham]
13 [Man City] KoeN v furball [West Brom]
13 [Portsmouth] lokken v Blasto [Tottenham]
13 [Sunderland] Reidy v Lupin [Charlton]
13 [West Ham] 1-X v JC [Blackburn]
13 [Middlesbro] midge5 v MrL [Liverpool] 1715
14 [Arsenal] LHC v Kura [Newcastle] 1330
14 [Wigan] sniborp v Zharkov [Chelsea] 1600
I'll dig the rules out of the old thread later, all you really need to know/be reminded of is... - full-time score
- half-time, as either H, D, or A
- name first scorer
- time of first goal
Put as much or as little surrounding information as you like... "2-1 H Smith 20" is all I need.

If no one signs up, do you still use Lawro's prediction?

I hadn't thought that far ahead
I'm reasonably confident someone will take the last place anyway, whether that's someone new or a late return from one of last season's players like JonnyBGood, Lokken, Nondescript Human, Inferno, Stew, Peace...
I'd like to find a better way than 'lawro' for those times when the predictor forgets... I toyed with the idea of doing it myself (instead of playing normally) but that would mean we had 2 places to fill. I'll stop waffling now.

I made Postsmouth the spare team in the fixture list because I thought you'd wander past, hear the cries of "help us daddy lokken, no-one wants us, who will predict our score?", and take pity on them and play again

Re: [football] the big league rnd 4
Quote:
SCORING
G = 1 point = generally right : final score accurate as far as home/draw/away
A = 2 points = almost right- correct home goals in a home win prediction
- correct away goals in an away win prediction
- any non-exact draw in a draw prediction
- correct goal difference (has to be generally right too)
X = 3 points = exactly right... obviously the exact score
and 1 point each for- H = correct half-time
- S = scorer
- T = Time (+-3 minutes)
|
this is the scoring method used in the previous league, which we'll be keeping unless someone has a good idea for improvements

Re: [football] the big league rnd 4
I noticed when I revisited the old thread that I also had a "completely wrong" bonus/rule, where, if both players drew, and neither had scored for G, A or X, a bonus point could be awarded for having any part of the score right
eg. <a> predicts 0-3, <b> predicts 0-2
result actually 3-2 (so both are completely wrong for 'GAX' eligibility)
bonus point awarded to <b> for the 2 correct away goals.
For some reason (it probably seemed unfair in use) I quietly dropped it...
Anyone want it back?

Re: [football] the big league rnd 4
nah, keep the scoring as it is... that rule just seems designed to make less draws, when there werent a huge amount of them anyway
EDIT: no peace
