Life after Uni
Has anyone else who has left found that the wild nights of drunken debauchery and having a social group of about 40 people has dwindled into mostly quiet nights watching the tv?
I go out now very rarely for a 'big night out' with friends and when I do i usually have to drive so cant drink. Alot of the friends i have at home are heading back to uni at the end of this month because theyre gimps and went on 1 year breaks so have a 4 year course (bastards leaving me like this). This means that the people id normally go out with are in various parts of the country and i am not.
As such i realise im working daily and then doing nothing in the nights. Its quite boring really and i feel like an old man :-(
The fact im working at home most days on various projects does not help (no office workers to go out with)
So ladies and gents :
anyone else found this and what did you do about it? im considering joining a raquet club or gym or somesuch just to get out and meet some new people and then throw up in their house.
p.s. i do have friends.. they are just beginning to get scattered about the UK; so your 'LOL BILLY NO MATES' jokes dont really work :-(((

Re: Life after Uni
I don't go out much at all anymore. I like to stay at home and read or be on the computer. I did a lot of 'clubbing' when I was younger and in the Marines, and I went out occasionally while I was in college. I don't like to drink anymore, I like to be able to think clearly. It's seems as if it's always the same group of people at the clubs, no matter where you go. I have so little in common with them.

Join a jitsu club. Most of the clubs are 'University' Clubs, but a lot are populated by townies, so there'll be socialising, but with special arrangements for getting home in time for work in the morning! Plus you get to do jitsu, which is obviously great.

Re: Life after Uni
I started to feel the same when I finished uni.
I found that I "treasured" those nights when I could go out more though. I used to go out a lot at uni, and most of my evenings would be very similar, and as I was often drunk, would blur into one big memory of stuff.
Now, if I'm only going out (say) once a week, I look forward to that night - it's not something that is decided a few hours before. I also end up having a much better time (on most nights) than I did for the majority of my nights at uni, simply because Ive kind of built it up in my head.

Re: Life after Uni
Yeah the same thing happened me when I finished university, there was a period of never getting to go out as there was no-one around.
Eventually I started running into old friends now and then and started heading out with them. But there might be only one or two heading out, so I then hit on a plan. A plan to pick up a girl as quickly as possible, then spend the rest of the night with her. It pretty much worked too, ment I got to know more people and ended up making some new friends.
So much better than joining shitty gyms and trying to start conversations there with total strangers who think you're hitting on them.

Re: Life after Uni
I don't go out and do the normal uni thing, mainly because I find it a bit rubbish. I'd rather go and have a good meal with friends or go on short break abroad.
If you want to improve your social scene just try and get in with other people. At the start of term my social scene wasn't great, as I decided the people on my course were a bit shit. But I soon started going out with people from my workplace, which worked out nicely. Also, you could join a club of somesort. Salsa dancing is pretty cool.

There is probably no life after uni. Im seriously doubting that theres life in the second half of uni. Workload, and we're all broke

Re: Life after Uni
Around 3 months ago, my plan was to finish uni, move back home and look for a job in manchester, then find somewhere to live in manchester. I was offered a job here in Cov, so I stayed, and I don't really know anyone. When uni starts up again there'll be a few people around that I know, and a couple of friends have moved in together not too far away, but I'm living in a house with other people who I occasionally go our with, and most weeks I go for a drink with people from work (+our neighbours at work, it's a building with a few small businesses in) and I'm quite happy.
I do watch a lot more TV than before though, sometimes I think it's just so I have a chance of seeing people as they pass through the lounge to the kitchen. Oh, and the house has a dog, and he's my friend

Work at home can be good (no supervisor/random to annoy/check you) and bad (not being able to talk/go out with people from work etc).
As for the "uni to work" step , don't expect someone working 9-5 to go out daily. You get exhausted at some point so majority follow the model of work -> tv / home stuff. As for going out you still got friday afternoon / evening + weekend.
Other than that, all the best

Re: Life after Uni
In my case I skipped Uni after finishing all my standard schooling and jumped straight into the work force (part blame on my mother for that one, I wanted to defer for a year but she was about to kick me out of house unless I started bringing in board money).
Of course most of my friends moved away to attend uni which left me on my own for a little while and my social life was all but dead. However through work and friends of friends I've formed a new social circle, but it's certainly only a shadow of my former life, no more wild parties and kicking it with mates at a moments notice.
Now I just spend quiet nights at home, only really seeing one or two regular friends at the weekend, and the occasional hobby here and there.

Make new friends.
Alternatively realise that going out and getting hammered every night isn't the be all and end all.
Oh - and get a girlfriend.

The Home Office takes on a few placement students from my university. I don't have any specific details but you should try and meet up with them if you are that lonely.
If you are truely lost I should be able to find the email address of someone who will be able to point you in their direction.

only one is here at the moment. She's american and doing an art history course at Sotherby's.
To pre-empt the question, I would say about 5 pints (for me that is).
I'm not too bad at the moment though anyway, another trainee is living in Croydon and I went for a drink with her and her housemate yesterday (4 pints but taken).
weekends look like they're gonna be busy for the rest of the month (especially if we organise a meet!) and by then I should've met more people with similar interests.
