Who will be teh next Pope
As my application to be next Pope when JP2 kicks the bucket (sometime on wednesday) has been turned down again (something to do with having 25 Sabbath albums !) I feel that the chance should go to another GD regular.
Anyone want to nominate another ?
I nominate Zar so the papalcy can return to the days of Pope Pius XII or failing that, Dace for obvious reasons.

Ill take the job. Then ill disband the Christian Church unless they can prove God exists, and ill distribute the several billion they have stashed in the Vatican Bank to needy causes.

Vatican insiders have been making noises lately that Joseph Ratzinger is the lead man for the job.
Although personally I hope I will get the job. The white robes are a skirt-magnet.

If Bush gets his way he'll get the job.
I wouldn't want the job. Personally, driving around in the Gunk Tank off of Fun House until you die of old age, aids or mental spasms due to claustrophobia doesn't appeal to me.

But you'd be an international celebrity! You'd have your own country, and your own palace! Whenever you went into clubs, women would be all over you! You could say "Want to come back to St Peters, love?" You'd get free drinks! Your own laundry service! Power over millions of believers!
I'd go with that.

Re: Who will be teh next Pope
the next pope should be:
-someone who molested at least 4 little boys in his priesthood
-someone who has strong ring-finger muscles to support that big ass ring
-someone with a perfectly round head to fit that hat
-someone who eats healthy and doesnt smoke, and doesnt get drunk on that blood of christ shit every night so he can live at least a hunderd and nine years
-someone who has sleeping disorders
-someone who has a voice that will put people to sleep
-someone who is connected with the mafia
-someone who is caucasian
-someone who listens religiously to U2

Also, if the wikipedia article on John the 23rd is anything to go by, you also get to wear something called a 'Papal Tiara'. (Who'd have thunk it?)

For some crazy reason, the cardinals like to elect a person who they can have faith in, who is learned, politically reliable, and wise, rather than wee John McDougal (Age four) of number five Shit Heap Lane, the Gorbals.
(Seriously, have you ever actually looked at the average ages of most popes, even from the last century, at the time they have been elected? Apart from JPII, I'll wager there were none who were under 65.)
Oh, and then there's the small matter that the Cardinals only elect, by convention, from within their own number, and to become a Cardinal requires donkey's years worth of work.

RATZINGER?!
The moral concience of america you mean? The driving religionist behind the republicans? The one that deemed the choice for Kerry as on-christian? The man that will turn the vatican in to the white house overseas department?
If so, we really have the novus ordus seclorum, contradictio in terminii as it may be.

I'm not really terribly well informed as to the fellow's background, but he is a German Cardinal. I doubt he is the same chap you are talking about above. If he had extensive political interests, then the Wikipedia article would have likely listed them. (Certainly I'm sure it would have at least mentioned them.)

Cardinal Ratzinger is the pope`s right hand man. He`s the Grand inquisitor. Used to be in the German Army during world war 2, and recently did n`t want the current Pope to apologise to the Jewish people for the historic crimes the Catholic Church had commited against them. Total b*stard I think.

So he's naturally a bastard, of course.

Re: Who will be teh next Pope
He's a moderate compared to, say Urban II. But I don't really think that we should term him a moderate simply because he hasn't encouraged Western Europe to re-claim the holy land for Christendom. (Not yet, anyway.)
