[Football] PFA Footballer of the Year
PFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The six nominations:
Joe Cole (Chelsea)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
Wayne Rooney (Man United)
John Terry (Chelsea)
PFA YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The six nominations:
Darren Bent (Charlton)
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Anton Ferdinand (West Ham)
Aaron Lennon (Tottenham)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Man United)
Wayne Rooney (Man United)
Personally I'd choose Wayne Rooney for the main award and it'll be close between Bent, Lennon and Fabregas for the young player award.

Any of those names are worthy, except perhaps Lampard; he's looked poor in recent weeks.

Re: [Football] PFA Footballer of the Year
I'd assume Rooney would get the young player's award given he's up for both, but then I dont know how these things normally work.

Henry and rooney for the main one, bent for the young player of the year award unless rooney doesn't win the main one.

It'd certainly be the easier option, but in my eyes he's been the best player in the country this season. He should get the award for that, and leave it to one of the new young players to get the young player award.
Main award
1) Wayne Rooney
2) Thierry Henry
3) Joe Cole
Young Player award
1) Darren Bent or Cesc Fabregas
3) Aaron Lennon

I guess Van Persie's age doesn't fall in the youngster category anymore?

Re: [Football] PFA Footballer of the Year
As good as Lennon is going to be, he hasn't had that huge an impact yet so I'm a bit surprised he's been nominated for the Young Player award.

Re: [Football] PFA Footballer of the Year
rooney / rooney, or henry / rooney
Gerrard has been fantastic but has made some ridiculous errors this year, re against everton and arsenal. Phenomenal player though.
Lampard was ****ing amazing... until christmas passed. He must have ate too much turkey or something because hes fallen away since then (and so have chelski)
Joe Cole has actually improved as a player and his end product is now pretty awesome. But he still cant defend for shit and he's inconsistent.
John Terry would get it if he wasnt a handballing, diving, little shit. Personally i prefer my "hard as nails" centre halfs not to be so concerned with their hair.
So Henry or Rooney. But maybe rooney, simply because henry has had a few bad spells. But then again, he's been playing with Adebayor, who's the worst striker i've seen since.. oh, benjani. Toss up for me.
Young player -
It would be just like the roon-wankathon engerland to give rooney both. And hes definitely the best player whos had the best season in this category.
Fabregas can come back when arsenal arent lightweight in midfield and can actually perform to a semi competent standard away from home. A little less conversation a little more action please.
Aaron Lennon is a fantastic prospect. But hes not the real deal.
Ronaldo has lots of fancy tricks, but no work rate, very little end product, and a shit temprament. Even though Man utd were great vs arsenal, he was ****ing shit bar a couple of party pieces that stop him getting slated.
Anton has had a decent enough season, but please look at the amount of goals West Ham have conceded : 50 - thats more than west brom, who are second bottom.
Darren Bent is a "trier". i view him as an incredibly average player whos punched way above his weight this season. I just dont reckon he's any use, personally - last night, for example, he was less than lethal in front of goal. If he got it it would be because of how he started the season, nothing else

Generally I'd vote for Gerrard, as unlike most English players, he doesn't come across as a wanka. But yeah he's had a couple of mares which pretty much rules him out.

"Player of the first 20 games" - he's been mince since christmas and i glad i dropped him from my fantasy side (as pompey were playing chelsea) since then.

Can't play week in week out, don't see why he should get it.

One of those wankas you can imagine in 30 years time doing corporate stuff and being the darling of the London press when he's a dirty little shit.

I'd say Henry, only just though as he's certainly given Arsenal that one man team feel for most of the season and Rooney has quite a few 'ordinary' games, but he's still a lad so he'll probably walk with the young trophy. Benjani isn't 'bad' he's just incredibly homesick and playing with the worst striking partner another striker could ever wish for (even though Lua is brilliant) - Benjani has worked his knob off in recent weeks, so I'm not going to stand for people slagging him.

Agreed.

Fabregas can win an award when he's stopped Kevin Nolan kicking seven sacks of shit out of him.

I was stunned that a completely bit part player can get nominated for this award.

I think Ronaldo has come on miles this season, as he's stopped dicking about like ronaldinho and actually getting on with the game. However, he's the main reason why shit sides have stopped beating the buccaneers so I reckon he should be in with a shout even if he is a bit of a diving shit.

West Ham only have one really good English player - that's Matthew Etherington.

Certainly looks like one of those one season wonders but is certainly our best bet at the moment if Owen gets injured. But not a patch on Ronaldo.
I'm looking at this 'young' list in amazement.
Where's James Morrison? Where's Micah Richards? Where's Steven Davis?
Then again the 'older' award is amazing as well.
No Kevin Nolan, no Morten Gamst Pedersen, no Gallas, no Shay Given.
I mean FFS this list is like it was written by a bunch of wankas who only read a london copy of the Sun.

Re: [Football] PFA Footballer of the Year
On a shortlist of ten, I'd definitly have Nolan, Morton Gamst Pederson and Given on it. Jaaskelainen would edge close as well, while Brad Friedel surely should be nearing a lifetime achievement award. Paul Robinson's also been the difference between Tottenham aiming for 4th and aiming for 5th. It's been a goalkeeper's season, all in all. Just look at Thomas Myhre forcing his way into the Charlton first team.
Gary O'Neil, Steven Davis and Michael Carrick all belong on the Young Player list. Bent's had a good season but probably shouldn't win - probably doing a Phillips. And how many years running has Cristiano Ronaldo been nominated for this award?!

Henry is the best player in the premiership. rooney was good but henry is in another world. We played 5 at the back at highbury and henry kept them all busy, awesome

Ive seen him in some matches this season where he has been really uninspired though.
Rooney\Fabregas or Henry \ Rooney are the only viable pairings in my opinion.
As for Bent i truly agree that he is nothing more than a average player having a good seasno. He is not half bad hes just not really good at anything, and id rather have Defoe than him any day.

Re: [Football] PFA Footballer of the Year
it was a good match, chelsea and joe cole missed there chances in the last 20 minutes. Liverpool played well and everyone hates chelsea so for liverpool. Also I think gerrard deserved the PFA footballer of the year, he lead his team to the european cup and potentially to the FA cup this year, he is a dominating player and a classy one at that who showed loyalty to his club even with the temptation of leaving for a better paid job. In fact Gerrard is one of the players I hold with highest regard atm and I very rarely have a bad thing to say about him (im a villa fan too ;o)

Not to sound like a sore loser but the first Liverpool goal came from a free kick which should never hav ebeen given. Although I can't complain about the class second goal.

Rumour has it if your studs are showing, its a free kick. It was a free kick, theres no debate.
ohwait i forgot the first amendment : John Terry is never allowed to do anything wrong and if he does we'll gloss over it or edit it out.
