Seven week rounds
I mean, how on earth have we managed to chump down to seven weeks per round? Wasn't it like twelve weeks back when I started playing PAX (yes yes, and even more with the old school Planetarion). What's the reasoning behind this? Is it a Jolt plan to gain more funds, or is there some other plausible reason for rounds to be cut off shorter?

Re: Seven week rounds
Actually 7 week rounds and 8 week rounds were advocated quite a bit by some hc's earlier in round 15-16 to ease up with people going inactive etc.

Re: Seven week rounds
Its easy to be cynical and think its just about funds but I believe round length is decided by PATeam and not Jolt.
As such I'd say its for the following 2 reasons
1) 7 Week rounds fit into the schedule better
2) 12 week rounds are extreamly intensive to play fully and anyone who then drops out early has a long wait before the next round which decreases the likelihood of them coming back. It also caused major Officer burn out problems which wasnt good for the aliances or the players in alliances

Re: Seven week rounds
From my point of view it makes life easier if things fit well into a year. This means either:
5 7 week rounds
OR
4 8 week rounds
(I'm not sure what it is for 3 rounds per year - I haven't worked it out).
This is with 3 weeks from tick stop to tick start between rounds. 3 weeks was decided on as people seemed to think 4+ was too long.
7 weeks was decided on becuase people though 8+ week rounds were too long and stagnation was reached early.
If there is a new consensus on how long a round should be we would do our best to adapt.

Re: Seven week rounds
4x9 week rounds fits with less waiting around than 4x8 week rounds

Re: Seven week rounds
With the present state of alliances (no clear winners) I'd suggest trialling a nine-week round again to see if that makes an improvement. At present the alliance rankings are a roid race and little more, leaving no time for decent wars in my eyes.

You could make it a 52 week round like smudge joked and I still doubt you would get a 'decent war' in the old sense of things.
The old wars relied on their really only being a couple of real potential winners from even before ticks started and relied on other alliances knowing their only chance to do anything was to back one of these alliances up
Alliances are now closer and more alliances have the ability to decide their own fates now rather than having to ride others coattails. Due to alliances having to do less riding of coattails and alliances being closer matched it simply makes the wars of old a tactic thats not very viable. If you get caught in a long drawn out war without the majority of the top 10 being involved also then the gaps are such that they can easierly be oveturned. As such war now are alot more about small, quick skirmishes and quick fluid changes of political agendas than longer wars of attrition

Re: Seven week rounds
We could even revert to 10 week rounds (4 * 10 + 4 * 3 = 52), though 9 week rounds suit me fine as well.
As for people dropping out early, with XP in place it's very well possible to start over from scratch after 5 weeks, and still do well enough to get top100.

Doesn't work like that though becuase you have times of year when people don't want a game running e.g. xmas

Re: Seven week rounds
Or they can simply not play or they can idle.
Cant see how playing or not playing during xmas is more idiotic then doing the same during summer.
