Quests
I was surprised I didn't find anything when searching the forums for "quest". There's an other topic around here that suggests the return of quests.
Completing these quests could give bonusses, such as resources, a little faster research/cons/prod, more stealth/alertness or even roids and ships.
Maybe there should be a drop-down box to select either newbie or advanced quests. For new players quests like "build some fi and steal at least 40 roids with the fleet" might be handy, but for people who have done more than one round it would be better to have something like "cap at least 100 roids form a target who has more value than you do". Ofc, advanced quests give a lot more bonus than the easy quests.
From another topic:
- a quest that guides ppl on how to construct their fleet and what kind of targets to attack (for example for xan: build vsh & daggers and attack a terran player)
- a quest that tells you to get on irc, then the ministers have the ablility to check "irc quest completed" on politics page to finish the quest.
- join an alliance quest
From me:
- attack a target of value your_value+x and steal at least y roids.
- for ziks: steal x insert_ship_type on one attack
- cov op a planet of x times your value with at least 8 agents
- roid a (non-cat) target bigger than you without losses
- perform a fleetcatch
- etc etc, tbh my ideas aren't that good atm
Please paste more quest ideas here, and if you don't like it, say why

No. This would create a 1 ship heavy universe which cant be fun

Hmm. Good in a perfect gal but would not work in an inactive one or one where an alliance controls the minister position, which often happens with buddy packs. 1 alliance could stop other allies, say their rivals, from passing it.

Yes. Alliances are essential today, and solo players can always make 1 man tags

Both of these are far easier for the hardcore allies than anyone else as they are able to attack the larger galaxies with more regularity

no. cov ops suck. they should be removed from the game rather than encourage their use

So we want to encourage overkill attacking? so no

Re: Quests
Well, with regards to IRC, they could just PM a nickname (eg, Quest?) with their co-ords which must match their alliance nickname; an admin (and ONLY an Admin) would then be able to sort through and perhaps tick a box somewhere that says, IRC Quest Complete. then they would be given resources etc.
Perhaps the IRC quest doesnt have to be complete before you can move on; that way people dont have to wait potentially a long time before they receive their bonus from the IRC quest and have all the following ones disabled.
It would be arduous for whichever poor bugger had to do it, but that's what appoco is for, right? .

Re: Quests
Rather than too many in-game benefits (which experienced players might just mop up in next to no time), I suggested a 'medal' system with rankings within your own race. Each fleet slot has a commander who doesn't actually contribute anything, but if they successfully defend a friendly planet they would receive one type of medal, if it was againsta much larger attacker it would be a more heroic medal and so on.
Like quests, but that also allows you to identify with your planet more, basically.

Re: Quests
For the IRC one I'm not sure why people are looking so hard for such a simple solution.
Read quest
Sign up to NG
Preferences => enter PNick => a code is returned, like FJDAOAPT
Connect to IRC, auth as that PNick
/msg Pea FJDAOAPT
Pea verifies you're logged in and that the code matches, tells you that you've succeeded. Maybe gives you the next step of the tutorial for connecting to IRC?
Quest completed.

Re: Quests
Yes - but that way its automated instead of having an admin have to check 2000 boxes and the player not getting an immediate return on his or her quest.
Incase thats not what you meant - one of the hardest things I had learning IRC was how to work with NG and Pea and if a quest can get the user to auth with P and get some basic commands going as well then I think we're 80% on the way to getting the majority of players on IRC and using it frequently.

Re: Quests
QUOTE from RC Mayhem
No. This would create a 1 ship heavy universe which cant be fun
the top 3 were not my ideas, they were taken from another topic. All the same, the quest could say build at least 5k phantom and 4k vsharrak and attack with it.
QUOTE from RC Mayhem
Both of these are far easier for the hardcore allies than anyone else as they are able to attack the larger galaxies with more regularity
Maybe not, cause bigger targets tend to get more def. And 100 roids should be possible for anyone to get. if you are much larger you can cap much more, regardless of your alliance
QUOTE from RC Mayhem
no. cov ops suck. they should be removed from the game rather than encourage their use
they suck now. but if they get a purpose or new content they may not suck anymore? I don't see them being removed from the game so I rather make them more useful
QUOTE from RC Mayhem
So we want to encourage overkill attacking? so no
no! if the target is bigger than you, it is unlikely you can send overkill!
QUOTE from RC Mayhem
NOOO! FC's are evil. Don't encourage them
true. but it is a strategy that many many good ziks use. And if the new players don't know how to do it they will do less good than the players who do. Maybe evil, but it works really great for the attacker, if zik. If not zik, this wouldn't be a good mission as it'd basically be "slaughter someone's fleet".
About Apocco coding: maybe someone could help them do it, i'm sure there are enough people who can code in PA... they just have to want the coding to be done bad enough

Well one way around this is rather then making quests linear like they have been in the past make it more of a branching tree. So the first couple of quests you have to do linearly but after that you can have several different active quest 'branches' you can be working on. This being said your right an ally could hurt other in gal allies, but if there are branches people could still go down those other ones, and after a while the dominiating ally will really only be hurting themselves in gal.

Re: Quests
More thoughts? maybe not every quest mentioned should be in, but I think everyone is in fond of Quests. Anyone who doesn't want them to return, and why?
cause if everyone agrees and it gets approved it's actually worth thinking of some

perhaps not so specific, more just "attack a Terran with 110% of your score??

IRC is very complex for noobs. Is there an official PA guide to getting people onto IRC through a proper client (as opposed to that crappy java app). I thikn that having step by step instructions (lo Exhy) would help a lot more

agree, but how would something be done thats specific to each rach. For Cath perhaps, freeze a whole fleet? Terrans to destroy a whole fleet?

nasty horrible things, i agree that their use, much like class A drugs shouldnt be encouraged, as the effects may be harmful to your health.

Some things you just gotta work out for yourself
For the rewards perhaps special items, or ships can be considered, as opposed to extra digits on any/all other digits.
Overall though, an excellent idea!!
PATeam...why hasnt this been done already?
