broardband in the uk
how many people in the uk are STILL waiting for broardband in their area. i have been waiting for what seems an age yet i still get "junk mail" comming through my letter box saying broardband is comming to your area, and i am still on my phone line which cuts me off every 2 hours and p.a. round 9 starts soon. dont these people realise that my planet could be at risk from people who are on broadband. and logging back on every 2 hours is a royal pain in the ass,..............(god i am sad)

Well its not really the sort of game that requires high speed internet access.

I'm in the same boat. There is currently somewhat of a 'campaign' locally. Apparently if 400 local businesses sign a petition then it will happen. 270 have signed so far. I can't imagine there are 400 businesses in town (or surrounding villages) that use computers :/

Here is my advice to you Soul-runner
1) learn how to spell Broadband. There is only one R in broadband - who knows perhaps it's already available in your area and the company keep receiving your e-mails/letters, they simply shrug their shoulders and huddle round your letter asking each other "whats broardband?" "Dunno...but we sure as hell don't provide it - it sounds like some german rock group"
2) if PA is all you need it for and the only problem with your 56k is the cut off time.
Get an isp without a cut off time.
I know it's blasphemous to say so, but AOL is actually pretty good, I find it slightly slower in general than others like freeserve, but apart from a slight speed issue - and being labelled an 'internet noob' and laughed at by complete retards who know nothing anyway.
AOL is reasonably priced, no cut off time at all (at the moment).

so you can't spell.... and your mistaken, being welsh is almost equivalent to being perfect.
But i'll let you off these few minor infrigments....what about the rest of my post though?

well you'll be in luck - in a few months or something ADSL2 technology is coming to the UK so we'll hav 20MBPS lines!
there's www.bulldogdsl.com - which has a 4mbps line OFF-PEAK ONLY for £79.99 which is not bad imo.

1. AOL dialup is reliable.
2. AOL dialup is fairly expensive but they do offer content that some would find interesting, particularly the directory search.
3. AOL is no slower than any regular dialup. If you pay premium prices for Demon or Claranet you'll get faster, Freeserve and the like are about the same speed though.
4. You have to use their crappy mail client unless you have a non-AOL POP account. This sucks in a big way.
5. You will be surrounded by 13yo pricks who think they own the internet. Netiquette is not something you find often on AOL.
Experiences of a former user (my ex wanted AOL, I gave in)
