Has anyone else done this?
well its more of a "not done done thing" but anyways.
I've not checked by bank balance since the start of the month.
What with all "the festivities" i'm too scared.
Anyone else done something similar?

Neither have I to be honest. I can't remember the last credit card bill I paid either. Bad bad.

Re: Has anyone else done this?
I haven't checked mine since about then, when I thought I really should to see if I could afford my Gamecube (I couldn't but bought it anyway - hey ho). I think I've only checked it three times since September 'cos I'm always too scared. But heh, who cares, it's only a number, "You are not what is in your bank account" etc.
Edit: the correct quote was obviously "You are not your job, you're not how much money you have in the bank, you're not the car you drive, you're not the contents of your wallet, you're not your ****ing khakis. You are the all singing, all dancing, crap of the world."
Edit 2: to hear this, click here

Re: Has anyone else done this?
I've not checked mine since I first started working where I am now, which was 23 months ago. I love the Russian Roulette feeling when you hit the cash desk at the end of the month, waiting for the reciept to print.
Great fun.

Re: Has anyone else done this?
I put some money safely into my savings earlier this month. I don't know what my bankbalance is atm, but I suspect it's on the red side of zero. Ah well... payday on Friday!

I checked mine today, hence noticing the £4ish I have left before the bank starts sending round the heavies.

Re: Has anyone else done this?
Think i have £800 overdrawn on my account
£1600 on the credit card
£4,600 on the personal loan.
I still dont care, as i have nice high facilities on both the card and the overdraft, and no bills to pay this month. I survived Christmas better than expected.

We dont send round the heavies. We send you a letter telling youre overdrawn, and charging you £25 for the privilege, making you more overdrawn.

I have about 20 minutes to spare tomorrow, I'll see if I can't negotiate an extension of my overdraft. I'll show nipple should it help.

*ahem*
Clearly we have a business post agreement. Works out around 8p per letter. However, we have our office overheads to cover. Someone has to actually write and sign that letter after reviewing your account. Its not automatic you know.
(I know the people who work in Lending, and theyre an absoloute scream to work with as all they do all day long is take customer calls from people wanting bigger overdrafts, and in 99% of cases, they give it, but they make the person squirm first )

Re: Has anyone else done this?
Checked mine last night. I keep a close eye on it, but nothing from the bank holidays has gone on yet. I'm fairly sure I'm still on the right side of my overdraft limit though. I get more money on Friday, and I have christmas cheques to put in as well, so I think things should be fine. I dont think I quite made a profit on christmas, but its not cost too much.

Re: Has anyone else done this?
Depends more on the account. Student accounts are generally nice. Regular accounts get annoyed if you go over your limit without agreement. HSBC give you a few leeways but if you go beyond those you still get charged (not more than £50 over for more than 14 days, 1st time in 6 months, and something else i think means you get let off. Its quite nice as it fogives little mistakes)
The best ones are when you go overdrawn, think 'oh damn' and put in enough to cover, and then a month down the line they take out the charge for it, which puts you over again...etc etc. Many fees for the bank so theyre happy.

i had a blazing row with a man at the other end of the phone over it and managed to get one month of the charges back

They dont because theyre hellbent on customer retention and petrified of complaints of "Reputational Damage" because since they started throwing almost EVERY piece of work they could out to India, theyve been losing customers in droves because they dont want to speak to an Indian call centre where they have to repeat themselves and their requests dont get actioned.
Basically , Barclays, Lloyds , Natwest, are picking up HSBC customers like you wouldnt believe simply because they have better customer service. Their rates are no different, they probably charge for letters and such, but they put you through to someone who knows your account and understands you even if youre a Brummie.

Re: Has anyone else done this?
I last checked mine on the 23rd and was totally gobsmacked to see an extra £600 in my account that shouldn't have been there, as I normal conciencious person I promptly decided it was probably a bank error and promptly removed the lot.
I was rather relieved to have a letter from the tax office this morning telling me I had a rebate.

don't you usually have to fill in 6 reams of forms which then get "filed*" for months on end before the tax office will even let you have 1p?
