[football] PFA Awards
PFA Player of the Year
Didier Drogba (Chelsea)
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Ryan Giggs (Manchester United)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
Paul Scholes (Manchester United)
This is clearly between Drogba and Ronaldo, with the latter taking it due to his consistently superb performance in the latter half of this season. Drogba, in fact, hasn't scored in the league since the beginning of March. The other nominees have all had good seasons (Scholes especially), but can't contend with the two front runners.
PFA Young Player of the Year
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Kevin Doyle (Reading)
Aaron Lennon (Tottenham)
Micah Richards (Manchester City)
This is a much harder one to pick. I'll presume that Ronaldo takes the main award given that he's the odds-on favourite, so we can discount him from the running.
Wayne Rooney: He's had a good run of form recently (just in time for the awards) but he hasn't been consistent all season. Obviously a constant danger and very talented, but this hasn't been a season for strikers - just look at the race for the golden boot this season. Rooney has also won the award for the last two seasons running.
Cesc Fabregas: A very good season personally, but Arsenal have struggled at times and it's a lot for a 19 year old to turn the team around. Having only just scored his first league goal of the season, it seems unlikely that he'll win the award - although his eleven assists have surely been crucial to the club.
Kevin Doyle: A fan favourite, Doyle's been a constant thread for Reading all season even if defenders have started to pay a lot more attention to him in recent months. Settled in very quickly to the Premiership, scoring 7 goals in the first half of the season.
Aaron Lennon: One of the most dangerous wingers in the Premiership, Lennon's pace and movement are a constant distraction to defenders. However, he perhaps lacks an end product at times - similar to Ronaldo in his first seasons in England. Now a first-team player for England, Lennon clearly has a very bright future.
Micah Richards: What a start to the season this boy had. Called up by England in November, Richards dominated the Man City defence at only the age of 18, helping them to keep five clean sheets before being drafted into the national side.
I really like Kevin Doyle. Rooney and Ronaldo have too many awards and will keep winning them as well, so let's give Doyle Young Player of the Year.

Re: [football] PFA Awards
Shame. Personally I'd rule that if you win the main award, you can't win the young players' award.

Fabregas, assuming that one of the criteria that they use is 'player is not a ****'.

Re: [football] PFA Awards
If Doyle hadnt gotten injured he mightve been my pick. I have big problems deciding tbh, and i really think that Ahbonlahor has deserved a place there

Re: [football] PFA Awards
Agbonlahor had a very good start to the season. However, although April has been good to him, the preceding four months were pretty poor. I expect he was seventh on the list though.

Re: [football] PFA Awards
Well he played good for Villa although our strikers failed miserably, when we got a decent striker in again he started to shine.
I dont see what Lennon has done that Agbonlahor havent, Lennon have barely scored any goals this season.

Re: [football] PFA Awards
Drogba/Ronaldo is the way to go about it.
Ronaldo has been absolutely exceptional this year but quite a few man utd players have - Van der sar and giggs have both been brilliant, and scholes has actually dragged them kicking and screaming towards any success this year singlehandedly.
Drogba on the other hand has been in a team that plays shit football with a misshaped midfield and no clear structure to it whatsoever. Defensively theyve been solid, but without odd cameo's from a variety of players this year, its been 100% Drogba.
I'm convinced he's made the single biggest difference in the Premiership this year, without Ronaldo Utd would have struggled a bit but would have coped, without Drogba Chelsea would be battling with Arsenal for fourth.
Ronaldo has played the more exceptional football but i think Drogba has probably won more points on his own than anyone else in the league this year - im thinking of the liverpool, everton games in particular, nothing games and potential slip ups where he won it for Chelsea even though they deserved to go home with 0 points, never mind 1 or 3.
Drogba / Ronaldo

Re: [football] PFA Awards
I'd have Drogba over Ronaldo this season I think. He's battled for Chelsea with key goals and at times single handedly kept them in the title race. He works hard for the team, defends, scores goals, creates chances from his shots/deflections/flickons and I think he really enjoys the massive responsibilities he has at Chelsea as he's had to carry the team when half the squad was injured.
Ronaldo has been exceptional scoring lots of goals, being very very creative and he's shown that he's not immune to getting stuck in either. He's the main reason why United dispose of the lesser sides by a large margin while Chelsea are happy winning by one or two goals once they've got a result.
I'm going for Drogba on sheer workrate and for having a tremendous attitude to the game this season.

Re: [football] PFA Awards
Ronaldo's coped with an incredible amount of abuse from the fans, especially in the first half of the season. That's equal to Drogba's new work ethic and attitude in my eyes.

He loves it though, I don't think it makes it difficult for him at all, to be honest.
I know I would love it.

But Ronaldo is a dirty, cheating diving bastard. Whereas Drogba, oh wai...

Scholes/Ronaldo
They would be my two picks.
It will be Drogba/Ronaldo though. Just to keep the southerners happy.

Why would footballers vote for people just to make the southern media happy? I can understand the bias towards attacking players, because for most players they'll have the more memorable moments playing against your team, but this seems a little strange. Especially given that Drogba, as Deffeh said, was Chelsea for a reasonable length of the season - although he has hit a lean patch recently, that would be after the voting had taken place (see: Ferdinand winning it in the season of the Newcastle collapse).
