Identity Confusion
I am currently engaged in the trial of the ax murderer which I have mentioned off and on during the time I have been at GD.
When I picked the jury, I left a black man on my jury. Not only is he black but he is a muslim!
The question is, can I still be a Republican if I am going to engage in this kind of activity?

Re: Identity Confusion
Don't be silly qebab. Someone is going to notice the guy is looking even darker than usual if he is burned. Bound to be some uncomfortable questions.
No, what's called for here is a more tactful response. Probably something in the order of planting 94 rocks of crack in his car and, preferably while he is on his way to court*, push a homeless guy out in front of him. 2 birds with 1 large caliber stone, that's the Republican way!
*Black guy arrested on way to jury duty is just cliché enough to receive the kind of press attention that will ensure a quick and successful lynching.

Re: Identity Confusion
You could just stop being a republican. I've heard bad things about republicans!
Quote:
Don’t be a Republican. They are self-dealing crooks with no sense of honor or patriotism to their fellow citizens. If you must be a Republican, don’t be a “conservative.” They are whining, bitching, complaining, simple-minded self-righteous idiots who think they’re perpetual victims. Listen to talk radio for a while, you’ll see what I mean.

Re: Identity Confusion
Muslims might have more conservative views on punishment than secular people on average, so it could be OK.

For how long has this trial been going on? It seems like you've had a thread about it every few months since forever.

Re: Identity Confusion
What colour skin does the 'accused' have? If he is white then you can hold your head up high knowing that like any good Republican you have employed the age-old tactic of racial tensions to put an innocent man to death.

The trial has only gone on for about four weeks. It is over now and the ax murderer is off to prison for a long, long time (as of Friday). However, the case poped up on January 5, 2003, but the murderer kept changing his mind about various things and managed to extend the proceedings for ovr 4 years before I could get it to trial.

So, mob justice is a better measurement of how long people should be imprisoned/executed for?

So when is he eligible for parole? And does that include the four years already served (assuming he wasn't granted bail)?

Re: Identity Confusion
What happens to someone who is held for four years and eventually found 'not guilty'? Do they get some compensation or something for the four years they (theoretically) were wrong imprisioned for?

Re: Identity Confusion
He will be eligible for parole after 26 years from the date he was taken in to custody (in this case January 5, 2029).
If he had been found not guilty, he could not have sued. However, if he went back to court to get a finding of factually innocent then he would have gotten $100 a day for the days he was incarcerated and could have sued if there was some particular violation of his constitutional rights.

unfortunately he would have got no money
(i actually quite like your system; we only compensate for wrongful imprisonment from wrongful conviction which is a massive inconsistency. If we deny bail during a trial and a chap is found innocent we just send them on their merry way with a shrug and not even an official apology for all those days, weeks, months spent at her majesty's pleasure ...)
By mocking you I sought to highlight a failure in the British system. We have a lot to learn from eachother our two nations. Now just ban guns for me and I'll look into getting your system implemented here.
