Re: [Poker]
But once skill levels are equal, its just down to luck. I have no doubt Alec White would have beaten Lee Nelson if he had Nelson's cards and vice versa. Both were good players.

Skill levels are never equal. Even if you know every single combination of cards and when to fold and when to bet there's still a huge variety of psychological strategies. A player may lose a big pot to someone who went in on a far lower hand. How do they react to that? Shrug their shoulders and say "That's poker" and play the next hand with the same level of skill? Or bitch and moan for half an hour about how everyons sucks at poker compared to them and how they shouldn't be playing with such newbs?
Judging by the internet it's usually the latter.

Dace , front and ****ing centre.
Get this game sorted, for Friday this week , and every week , at 7pm , so that we have a chance to finish early enough to go out for a few drinks after , but not so early that we have to eat dinner whilst playing.
GET TO STEPPIN RANKIN! AVANTI!

Re: [Poker]
I fear I'll hardly ever play in this weekly game, due to other commitments.
10pm during the week except friday/saturday is good.

Re: [Poker]
Personally i was hoping for a Sunday afternoon game (as there's never any decent tournees on in the afternoon).
Around 3pm or so.
Buy in $10.
The game is on hold until after this weekend tho (meat etc).

Worst beat of the tournament was AKs v 77, flop AK7. Both went all in, not pretty for the guy holding AK.
As for the luck/skill thing, a good player will make less mistakes over time so will lose less. Beginners tend to see too many flops and definitely stick around too long after missing the flop. So many times you see a fish with pocket 8s stick around when the flop is all broadway cards and the pot odds say "run away", sometimes they suck out on the river and take the pot but that's a good thing. Keeps them playing and they always remember the wins but forget the losses.
Poker messes with your brain, people are unwilling to cut their losses when they miss the flop but until they realise that money in the pot is dead they keep on chasing.
Wish I was as good as Mr Rankin though, I could do with $3000 about now

I'd be up for some of this presuming I can get to a computer when it happens (and I'm not living on the streets at the time).

Re: [Poker]
Tourneys seem to be limitless. Im sure if its set to say 25 players , and the password ONLY posted on here, we can get at least a dozen players

Re: [Poker]
I seem to be unable to figure out how to register a private tournee.
If anyone else can figure it out please tell me.
Tell me or set it up yourself (either/or).

Re: [Poker]
For those of us that have never played any form of poker before (hey, I lead a sheltered life) but enjoy most forms of gambling, and dont mind losing a few quid a week.
How would you suggest we learn to play? What should we read up on, etc.
By the way I mean like, no knowledge at all, as in, I dont know what beats what, the definition of a flush, shit like that.

Re: [Poker]
I've started playing on the free tables with 'play money' over at partypoker.com
I, like you, never knew hown to play Hold 'em so i've been learning that way.
Not sure if laddies have play money tables tho, never used their client.
